iControl DCS (Another iPad pit)
DayGlow replied to boarder2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A combined UFC and 2x MFD screen would be perfect. Also pie in the sky would be a working gauge stack. I find when I zoom into the HUD to see I clearly I no longer can see the ADI to step on the ball for a coordinated turn. Are you looking to publish this in the app store or will we have to jailbreak to run it? -
iControl DCS (Another iPad pit)
DayGlow replied to boarder2's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Now does the game hav to be a certain Rez and the program have the mfd's in a certain spot to have the video sent to the iPad? I run a triple screen setup and would want to have the mfd video on the outside monitors' edge so it stays out of my fov. -
What is Vsynch (and the other gfx options) and should I turn it on?
DayGlow replied to Bahger's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
V-sync - locking the video frames of the game to the refresh rate of your screen. With it off your graphics card throws it's rendered frames out as fast as they are generated. Thus can cause 'tearing' by having half an image on screen when a new one is generated. V-sync removes tearing, but locks you in under it's refresh rate. So a 60hz monitor will never display more than 60fps. HDR- High Dynamic Range. Models glare and your eyes adjusting from going from light to dark and the reverse. SSAA - Super Sampling Anti Alaising. Type of anti alaising that works by taking a larger sample and rendering it down. Say you run the game at 1600x900. The game engine renders the scene at double or triple the resolution internally, then samples it down to the output rez. A very gpu intensive way of removing jaggy edges of an image. -
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed F4 and find the DC very immersive, I'm responding to the poster who said that programing a DC is easy and DCS should have one. to ignore the warts of the DC isn't the way to go and I would never expect ED to put out a sim with a broken DC simply because F4 was. The fact that tasking has never been fixed, even 15+ years later is a very good indication that a DC isn't a simple proposition. Haver picked up AF because I run a 3 screen setup and since Falcon is a dx6/7 product won't run across the monitors. I'm kinda interested in the BMS/Dark Falcon if it ever comes out since supposably it's now dx9 and could run at filly high resolutions.

Never bought AF, but all the different versions of F4 from the beginning to OF and FF versions you have to manually set the times of packages so the sweep/sam suppression/strike/escort/recon arrived at the right times and often re-do flight paths over obvious sam sites. No way you could do this for every tasking over the whole theater which led to inefficient strikes and massive attrition that would often grind the campaign to a halt within a few days as all the assets are gone.

Really? So you'd be happy with a DC that was released in the state it was when F4 came out? Or even over 10 years later still broken and hacked together by the different mod teams? Maybe no one has released a DC like Falcon because not even the Falcon one ever worked? As a programer you'd be ok with releasing a broken product?
-
Would only be interested in a new F4 if it supported resolutions high enough for 3 screens. Can't go back now that I've had a taste.

I was all gung-ho to go ahead and realized that the wifi was burned out on my iPhone. Will be replacing it later this year so will have to wait until then to try.

Can I run this along with the iPad cockpit at the same time?

Monitor setup: 1 large screen <vs> 3 small screens
DayGlow replied to Frazer's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A single large LCD will still be 16:9 so you'll still have the same vertical fov as a smaller LCD. A 3 screen setup means the horizontal fov will be greater, but the vertical fov will be the same. My cockpit of the A-10 is the same on the center screen as it would be on a single LCD setup, no loss of vertical fov. -
Monitor setup: 1 large screen <vs> 3 small screens

I went from a 32" LCD to 3x24" and won't go back. Not only for flight sims, but driving as well is just amazing on a 6' ultra wide screen. Benzels aren't a huge issue as the side monitors are in your peripheral when looking in he middle. If you go portrait I'd reconmend 30" 16:10 screens. I've ran mine in portrait, but as they are 24" 16:9 screens I found them too narrow to be immersive. As for cost, I got 3 Benq LED LCD's for $200 each, so $600 on total, which is competive with a single large format LCD. I already had an Ati video card to drive the monitors. -
Those of you Using TrackIR and Headphones
DayGlow replied to Lonecrow66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Don't even need that. Most motherboards have onboard sound so use mb sound for mic and TS and add-on card sound for game. -
ED games seem to map the throttle to the slider for some reason. You have to go into the setup screen in DCS. And choose axis from the drop down menu. From there you can map the throttle axis to the throttle instead ofbthe slider.

A-10 Warthog CDU with Ipad have a try

How is it with sending left and right alt/cntr/etc? -
Too true, last thing we need is to use up all the Internet space with people asking questions.
-
Can you still hear other flights when they use the radio? Would I still have to tune to their frequency?
-
Load up rockets and don't carry the targeting pod, problem solved.

Nothing wrong with someone forging ahead with a proof of concept. I wouldn't expect someone to jump through the Apple hoops to get onto the app store. Hopefully others will move ahead with this idea. Who knows, maybe CH or TM or other established peripheral maker will come out with their own iPad control app

When I tried the HAWXS demo the terrain did look amazing at altitude, but as soon as you get close to the ground you really feel the drawback of satellite textures. It looks far worse than DCS.

Also when you tap on the button in edit mode at the bottom you can see a bunch of button type options. You can choose slider you can then give the button an increase and decrease value. When you then press and hold the button a slider appears on screen and you can drag your finger up and down on it The button types are cool. You can have a dial and spin younfinger around the button for +\- values, menus, etc. I have the 2 dials on the AAP panel put on menus. I click the button and the options for the dial pop up around it. I drag my finger to the setting I want and bingo  -
