A-10 Warthog CDU with Ipad have a try
DayGlow replied to Ghost_unit13's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've been playing around with Keypad Pro and like it a lot, but there are limitations. As mentioned it doesn't always send the modifier keystroke with the keypress so having scripts to run shft, alt, cntrl, etc isn't really needed as it doesn't work reliably enough. I had all the OSB's mapped to a profile with cntl modifiers and it didn't always take, so other keypresses were being sent to the sim. At one point when I tried to access the DSMS the cockpit lights turned on. As there are 40 OSB's and limited number of direct keys on the keyboard especially since this program doesn't differentiate between the num-pad and main keyboard, it isn't possible to map all of them. It will be a useful program to store a select number of useful commands that can be mapped to straight key presses. I have the UFC and part of the CDU mapped no problem and will run with that. I will probably pick up some cougar MFD's as well and the rest can be covered by the clickable cockpit as any combat needed command can be mapped to the iPad, the rest aren't time sensitive and I can hunt it down with the mouse. -

I've been playing around with it last night, all you need is the shift, cntrl, and alt. Ran into an issue with multiple modifiers in DCS itself. shft+ctrl with a key throws an error in the game itself. I've setup the right keys as my modifiers so I'll see if alt is causing problems. Just did a test, Ralt seems to work fine in DCS -
Have you tried assigning the axis yourself from with the program? Very basic process for someone of your skill. From the controller menu select axis from the drop down menu. From there click on the control you want to modify hit the add button and move your stick/throttle/rudder you want to use. It's that simple.

Did you have to create a separate script for each command or just one to make shift=Lshift, control=Lcontrol, etc and have this cover all commands as they come in ( sorry away from pc so I can't experiment) -

I'm using keypad pro to create my own custom control panel for DCS combining parts of the UFC and CDU. How does autohotkey work? Will it only intercept the command inputs from keypad pro and put the proper inputs into DCS? Or does it not differentiate between the iPad keyboard and pc keyboard? Edit.... Reading its documentation my understanding it takes either shift key press and you define it as a right or left key press correct? -
It would be perfect if you could setup a 'ghost' MFD in the game so that you could have the CDU information all the time without having to display in within the game. Can you create a 3rd MFD, but have it's physical position outside of the monitors, then have the ipad program pick it up?

Nice.... Does it hook right into DCS or do you need to map key presses?

How about Air Display to extend the desktop and using touchbuddy? -

just a thought, you can program swtches into the DCS controller interface under the modifier menu. from the DCS GUI manual: Switches The switches window in the right part of the Modifiers Panel works as a toggle as opposed to the modifiers. With modifiers you must press the modifier and key simultaneously – Ctrl + T. With a switch you can first activate the switch, then press any needed keys and then turn off the switch. You can think of it as setting a key to a mode. For example, you could assign the “E” button on the throttle as a switch and one Hat on the stick to control the landing light. Before landing you could press “E” one time and use the hat to now control the landing light instead of its default function. Can you program a string into the Keypad Pro interface, say when you click the button on the iPad it sends the switch key, ie [1] or whatever, then the keypress you want assigned to the key, then the switch key again to turn it off? That way you can have the effect of a modifier, but not have to worry about the combined keypress. So I program the num-pad keys to the UFC numpads, but have them on a switch using the [/] key. When I press the UFC button 1 on the iPad it sends the string [/]-[1]-[/] to the game, turning the switch on and off. Does this make sense? -

Have you tried contacting the dev about the issues? -
Do we need to JB the iPad for this to work?

Are the Cougar MFD's worth it?

Win7 does allow multiple graphics cards from different venders. I have a 5850 in Eyefinity as well as my old 8800gts I'm using as a Physx processor. -
remember when you go triple monitor you're tripling the effective rez and gpu power is more relevant. You'll find games that once ran fine really struggle with the increase in pixels having to be pushed. Also with 512mb of memory you can forget AA at higher rez. People are finding with eyefinity and Nvidia setups that even 1gb of memory isn't enough for AA at ultra high resolutions.

If you have a touch screen will there be a software bezel for the MFD's?

Reading up on the UFC I found out using the function button you can switch between Waypoint, Mark, and Mission settings for waypoints instead of using the dial on the right hand panel. Now reading the manual I missed where I can see what mode I am in. Of course the dial doesn't show the current setting if you use tue UFC. This is important because once we are able to assign keys to the UFC it will be easier for me at least to program the num pad to the UFC than to try to click the cockpit with the mouse.

I cut my sim teeth on F-19 and Gunship back in the day. Now think about it HAWXS is probably more complex than those games. Simmers have to start somewhere and DCS is probably a little too much to jump right into. HAWXS serves a very important purpose to the community.

They misspelled 'radical', not a good start.

Touchbuddy is another program you could use.

Run landscape myself. I like the wider FOV that stretches into my peripheral vision. Sense of speed is so much greater.
-
Ok so it works as long as the first keypress doesn't matter if it's sent again. Probably would work for the CMS if you send the start program command again.
-
just curious, how did you program the short and long keypresses for the pinkie? That could fix my issue with the CMS switch on the mouse wheel. If a quick press of the mouse wheel starts the program and a long hold ends it, it would be perfect.

same problem. I signed up to this forum with a different email than the one I used to buy A-10 -
Trying to setup BS with a triple screen setup using Eyefinity. When I select 3 screen option from the menu I get a proper FOV, but the side monitors are skewed off angle too far and looks weird. When I select the 1 screen option I am zoomed right into the HUD and can't zoom back from it at all. I've tried the snap view fix and it hasn't worked. How do I pull the camera back from the HUD so I get a proper FOV?
