  1. Actually I tried a couple of these options: The default is "Move in front of player when the sight is activated". The other one I tried is "Permanently keep in front of the player". In VR, I couldn't tell the difference - in both cases the sight was off to the side. What I do is move my head left and then reset the VR view. This puts the sights more or less in front of me (at least I don't have to lean too far).
  2. Just checked - it still works for me. Boy, you had me scared. Just flew a couple of missions - no issues: The external and the cockpit models are fine. What kind of problems are you experiencing??
  3. As the title says, I'm on the Clash of Wings server and I can't seem to contact the tower nor the ground crew (to start the engine). The electrical power is on, the radio is on. I tried every channel - A, B, C, D - nothing works. Usually the radio freqs are pre-programmed on that server. Anyone else having this problems? Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Doc
  4. Trying out the Mossie against the usual Axis opponents - the Anton, the Dora, and the Kurfurst (AI set to "veteran" in all engagements). The Anton is easy, the Dora is almost as easy. I flew six rounds against the 109, won three and lost three. Overall, I'm surprised the Mosquito did as good as it did - wasn't expecting much going in. I really have to work on my aerial gunnery in the Mossie. Then I will try my luck online, though I expect that a competently flown 109 (and even 190D9) will take me apart...
  5. Trying out the new Mosquito against the usual axis opponents: FW-190A8, FW-190D9, and Bf-109K4.
  6. I just move my head to the left and recenter the VR view...
  7. A quick online sortie on the "Clash of Wings" server...
  8. A quick online sortie...
  9. JF-17 vs. Mirage 2000 (Guns Only, Two-Circle Fight)
  10. Can a Hind take on an Eagle?? LoL! Goofing around with the AI...
  11. Practicing 2-circle BFM in the F-16C against a MiG-29.
  12. I've been following all the answers with great interest - thank you all for the valuable advice. Here's a new video of my recent 2-circle BFM practice against the MiG-29. I'm starting to get the hang of it I think, though I still let the airspeed get away from every now and then... and my aiming truly sucks. Unfortunately, I don't really have any friends who fly DCS (or any flight sim), so I can't experiment on multiplayer. The few times I've tried to go 1v1 on the Just Dogfight server I ran into people who either kicked my butt before I knew what hit me or people who barely knew what they were doing. It really helps to have friends more or less at your own level (or slightly better), so you can improve together. At any rate, your advice is VERY MUCH appreciated. Doc
  13. Wanted to test out the new FM of the MiG-19 against a worthy opponent, so I chose the F-15C with AI set to "veteran". To my big surprise, the MiG-19 now outturns the F-15 both in 1C and 2C fights (at least against veteran AI). I'm curious to try turning against a human opponent - most likely the AI simply doesn't use the F-15 to its full potential.
  14. Here's a video of today's practice session against a MiG-29. I just can't keep the speed above 350kts and maneuver to stay out of his nose (which is my primary concern). Many mistakes (like that stupid premature turn at the merge in the second round). "Veteran" as this MiG may be, it still flies pretty simplistically, which is why I can get away with this type of flying. A human player will punish me quickly for these mistakes. Need more practice...
  15. Hi everyone, I've watched enough videos and read tons of threads that all say the same things: "The F-16 likes to be fast", "Keep the airspeed up" (some recommend 400-420kts, others recommend 450-500kts...), "The F-16 will outrate anything in 2C fight if you keep the airspeed up", etc. Well, I routinely get my butt kicked by the AI (set to "veteran") in guns-only engagements against a Mig-29 if I try to stick purely to a 2C horizontal fight. For the most part, it seems to outrate me anywhere from 15K down to the deck regardless of whether I maintain 350kts, or 450kts or 520kts. The other thing that bothers me is that pulling just a tiny bit on the stick (I'm using a Trustmaster Warthog) bleeds airspeed like crazy and then it takes forever to regain it unless you completely unload the aircraft (but then the bandit is on your six). I am not a complete newb - I have no problem with most of the other DCS mods - but for whatever reason, the F-16 just doesn't want to click with me. And, yes, I can defeat the Mig-29 if I throw away the whole "keep it in a 2 circle fight and keep the speed up" mantra. How do you guys BFM with this thing? Suggestions for improving my BFM skills in the F-16 are much appreciated. Doc
  16. A modified JF-17 instant action mission - instead of fighting one Mirage, I added a second one.
  17. Attacking a convoy in the desert.
  18. Yeah, I've seen this and tried this server, but right now they only have the usual P-51/Spitfire/Bf109/FW190 mix... Thanks for your efforts, anyway!!
  19. I dearly love the little I-16, but the only MP server I've come across that supports it is Clash of Wings, which is sparsely populated. I asked if the I-16 can be added to the SoW server and was told it doesn't fit the historical narrative. Ok, I get that, though I'm not convinced that either SoW or LDFM are super-historically-accurate. That leaves the Just-Dogfight servers, and I have yet to see someone flying a WWII warbird there. Does anyone know another MP server that does support the I-16?
  20. In preparation for some carrier-based missions in the Marianas, I decided to practice my Spitfire carrier landing skills by landing on the Tarawa... I've no idea if it's possible to stop without arrestor wires in RL, but it works fine in DCS.
