It's been a long time since there have been any posts about the La-7. Just curious if it's already been submitted to ED for evaluation...

My biggest problem is the AI warbird invulnerability. I hadn't flown warbirds in a while, so I'd forgotten what it's like to try to shoot down an FW or a 109. Yesterday, I literally emptied all my Spit ammo from a point-blank range into an A-8 - huge holes all over it, missing the left aileron and half the horizontal stab and it kept on flying on its merry way...

Same here. DCS quits on startup with the log file as described by the OP. Oculus/Meta Quest Pro headset. VERY frustrating!!

Perhaps Jester assistance callouts can help you out a bit Oh yeah, just like the Tomcat Jester: "Use the Force, Luke"... LoL!

Ouch. I hate the boom refueling. I can refuel anything with a probe and drogue, but I still struggle with the AF jets. Part of it is that I fly exclusively in VR, which makes it difficult to see the lights on the tanker. The other part is, of course, lack of practice on my part... Maybe the F-4 will motivate me...

need track replay AI Super Ace BFM?
Doc3908 replied to mytai01's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
You summed up what I was going to type: It's not so much that the enemy AI aircraft do loops - they simply fly circles higher and higher and higher without loosing any energy. And, yes, they hardly ever engage even when they are in a perfect firing position. That and the infinite chaff and flares, which they continually dispense, has made flying against AI a waste of time for me. And since I don't really enjoy online play, I have pretty much stayed away from DCS for almost a year now. Every now and then, I get the itch, but as soon as I play one round against the AI, I lose interest. I hope ED can bring back whatever enemy AI model they were using back in 2.7, because that was actually a lot of fun to fly against. -
Well.... here's the Happy New Year message from Dec. 2022 : "Happy New Year 2023! The outgoing year released "Ishak" into the DCS virtual sky, the coming one will give way to "Lavka". " For my part, I can't wait for the La-7. If it's anything like the I-16 (and I'm sure it will be), it'll be phenomenal. I love the Po-2 and would jump on it, too, whenever it is Octopus-G releases it, but I'm not gonna hold my breadth.

Funny how everyone gets excited about a tail sticking out of Santa's bag in a cartoon video, yet we are still waiting for the La-7 that we expected to come last year...

I think it comes down to financial planning: The big F-4E release is imminent. I don't think ED will release two planes simultaneously - most people will have to choose which one to buy and it'll eat into the profits of ED and the developers. If they release the La-7 (or whichever is next) a month or two later, then there will be no competition for the F-4E and eventually people will most likely end up buying both. So many models were supposed to come out in 2023 - the F-4E, the F-4U Corsair, the A-6 (???), the La-7. Let's hope 2024 will be more bountiful. :)

Stop teasing us and give us the plane!!! LoL!

Can the "spotting dots" be disabled? I never had a problem spotting things before. These are just ridiculous and totally ruin the gameplay. They remind me of the old "dot-labels", but even they were done less obtrusively. These new "spotting dots" are everywhere: Just played a WWII bomber intercept mission and when all these B-17 got shot down, the sky was covered with black dots representing parachutes at a distance...
-
And why is this posted in the La-7 thread???
-
My best wishes to CubanAce for success in all his future endeavors! Thank you for the wonderful mod - it's been fun!
-
The latest "future of DCS" post talks about the F-4E, the F4U, the UH47 and what not, but not a word about the La-7. I'm starting to wonder if we'll see it this year at all...
-
Yup. I was just coming here to report the same problem. Cannot communicate with my flight/wingman, but ATC/Tower comms work fine.
-
Every time ED announces a new Open Beta update, I keep hoping to see the La-7 release announcement. How close are you to release (next few weeks, next few months, next year)????
-
Yak-1 would be great. Personally, I'd prefer a Yak-3, but at this point I'm just breathlessly waiting for the La-7 - regardless of the gender of the pilot.
-
My second attempt at an altitude record in the VSN F-104C.
-
I've been playing it on the new MT version and don't seem to have a problem. I'm playing in single-player, though, not on an MP server.
-
Very cool!
-
VSN have been releasing one hit after the next lately. Loving the F-104!! Does anyone know if the engine can be restarted in the air?
-
I completely agree. Serious servers like 4YA and Enigma Cold War claim to focus on realism, yet miss out on such a basic thing as disabling zoom. There have been many threads over the years where people vehemently argued about the use of zoom - both for and against. I understand most arguments, but at the end of the day, it remains an unrealistic tool as far as I'm concerned.
-
Yeah, I do use zoom on occasion. WW2 warbirds are fairly easy to tell apart (and you have to get close to fire anyway), but without IFF, I wonder how did those guys flying MiG-19s and F-4B/Cs managed not to shoot their friends. Makes the concept of BVR missiles like the AIM7 totally useless - after the merge, no GCI can tell you who is who... The countermeasures is what usually tells me who it is, but for that they need to start flaring. And the MiG-19 doesn't even have countermeasures. And flying VR exclusively, it's even more challenging - low resolution compared to flat screen monitors and constantly craning your neck to get a fleeting glimpse of someone flying past you. As for real life - I hope none of us have to engage in this type of "contest" ever...
-
Thank you so much. Here's another similar video from a couple of weeks ago:

To steer on the ground, you need to be holding the nose-wheel-steering button while steering. I usually map it to the front paddle of my TM Warthog. As for "steering" in the air - that's all in the flight model. Don't know how realistic it is (I'm quite certain it's not), but it's interesting and challenging, which is what makes this mod fun to fly. As with the real Phantom, the key is to keep your speed up. Fly above 400kts and she responds just fine. Drop below 350 and she gets sluggish. In that case you have two options: - Nose down and pick up speed - Drop one notch of flaps, which makes her very controllable (especially after the latest patches), but you won't pick up speed fast and if you do, the flaps will get jammed Either way, when slow, use the rudder (and at times opposite aileron). And keep re-trimming. The trim is kinda weird, but re-trimming helps during hard maneuvering. Hope this helps. Doc
