  1. Yak-1 would be great. Personally, I'd prefer a Yak-3, but at this point I'm just breathlessly waiting for the La-7 - regardless of the gender of the pilot.
  2. My second attempt at an altitude record in the VSN F-104C.
  3. I've been playing it on the new MT version and don't seem to have a problem. I'm playing in single-player, though, not on an MP server.
  4. VSN have been releasing one hit after the next lately. Loving the F-104!! Does anyone know if the engine can be restarted in the air?
  5. I completely agree. Serious servers like 4YA and Enigma Cold War claim to focus on realism, yet miss out on such a basic thing as disabling zoom. There have been many threads over the years where people vehemently argued about the use of zoom - both for and against. I understand most arguments, but at the end of the day, it remains an unrealistic tool as far as I'm concerned.
  6. Yeah, I do use zoom on occasion. WW2 warbirds are fairly easy to tell apart (and you have to get close to fire anyway), but without IFF, I wonder how did those guys flying MiG-19s and F-4B/Cs managed not to shoot their friends. Makes the concept of BVR missiles like the AIM7 totally useless - after the merge, no GCI can tell you who is who... The countermeasures is what usually tells me who it is, but for that they need to start flaring. And the MiG-19 doesn't even have countermeasures. And flying VR exclusively, it's even more challenging - low resolution compared to flat screen monitors and constantly craning your neck to get a fleeting glimpse of someone flying past you. As for real life - I hope none of us have to engage in this type of "contest" ever...
  7. Thank you so much. Here's another similar video from a couple of weeks ago:
  8. To steer on the ground, you need to be holding the nose-wheel-steering button while steering. I usually map it to the front paddle of my TM Warthog. As for "steering" in the air - that's all in the flight model. Don't know how realistic it is (I'm quite certain it's not), but it's interesting and challenging, which is what makes this mod fun to fly. As with the real Phantom, the key is to keep your speed up. Fly above 400kts and she responds just fine. Drop below 350 and she gets sluggish. In that case you have two options: - Nose down and pick up speed - Drop one notch of flaps, which makes her very controllable (especially after the latest patches), but you won't pick up speed fast and if you do, the flaps will get jammed Either way, when slow, use the rudder (and at times opposite aileron). And keep re-trimming. The trim is kinda weird, but re-trimming helps during hard maneuvering. Hope this helps. Doc
  9. A full F-4B (VSN) mission: Take off from CV-59 Forrestal and clear the airspace for a flight of F-105 Thuds. The enemies are four MiG-21s and four MiG-19s. All AI is set to veteran or ace. After the engagement, fly back and land on the carrier.
  10. You're right - it's active now. Here's the link: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3328968/ Let me know if it works. Hope you have fun!
  11. Well, I posted it under "My files" in the "User Files" section of DCS, but it shows the status as "not active". I assume they'll look it over and "activate" it at some point. Or is there something else I must do??
  12. Four Navy F-4Bs protecting a large flight of BUFFs on their way to bomb a red airfield. We have four USAF F-5s also flying cover. The opponents are eight MiG-21s and eight MiG-19s. And that's only half the fun - then we have to get back to the boat... I can post the mission if anyone want to try it...
  13. Where can I upload a couple of F-4 missions for people to try?
  14. Very interesting. How did they ever think of employing an AIM7 if they had to visually identify the target. Makes the whole (BVR) missile concept kinda useless.
  15. Hi guys, Does the VSN F-4 have IFF at present? I did not see one in the bindings but maybe I missed it. IFF would be at the top of my wishlist for the VSN F-4. Also, I tried to bind the missile station selector to the stick, but only the "next weapon" seems to work. I was hoping to be able to switch to the left/right AIM9 stations quickly, but now I all I can do is go around the circle and that means I have to take my eyes off target. Has anyone managed to get those bindings working??
  16. Hi Rudel_chw, Do you have a link to the project discord. This one doesn't give me any content. Or is there another place where the updates have been posted? Thanks, Doc
  17. This was one of my favorite servers (occasional severe lagging notwithstanding). Wish GS would bring it back...
  18. Refueling the 'B' is harder than the Harrier. Any tips for a good lineup?
  19. A bit late to the party - just picked up the F-4 and tried it out. All in all, it's an interesting mod and has a lot of potential. Kudos to the developers! Anyone playing this in VR??? There's a whole lot of shaking, in the air, on the ground, and even when the engines are turned off. The flight model doesn't bother me - I like the challenge of testing the limits of what I can get away with. But this shaking is ruining the experience for me. Anyone else experience this? Anyone have a solution?
  20. I got into DCS because of the I-16. Now the La-7 is on the horizon. Any chance this will show up in time for Christmas?
  21. While the I-16 has been released as a final stable version, I wonder if at some point we'll get a version armed with cannons. The current version with its 7.62mm MGs is simply not competitive against any opponents - you run out of bullets before you can bring down a single Bf-109 (and I'm pretty good at aiming with the I-16). IRL, the cannon versions of the I-16 were available early on - as early as type-6 if I'm not mistaken and certainly by type-10. I don't know which type our DCS I-16 is modeled after, but it looks like a type-18, which definitely had a pair of cannon in the fuselage. I hope this is something that the developers will look into eventually (though I'm hoping to hear some news about the La-7 first...).
