Thanks for the replies, that sounds pretty cool. I haven't learnt any navigation or radio controls and I don't think they're fully functional yet anyway, so I'd be pretty useless as a navigator, but it still sounds like a fun thing to try if I can find someone willing to let me jump into their plane with them. It would make for a useful second pair of eyes to search for targets/bandits/check six etc. if nothing else.

I've noticed that when in multiplayer the Mosquito has two slots available for each aircraft - pilot or navigator. Has anyone tried it online - two people in the same Mosquito? If so, how do you use SRS comms to talk to each other and how well does it work?
-
Well, I'm new to multiplayer, so I don't think I'm qualified to criticise too much. But if I could say one thing, every time the server starts, it always seems to start with the same ships in the same places and they always look like they're sat static in the channel. It would be nice if the ships spawned in more random places and weren't static, so you had to search for them each time. And you didn't tend to fly the same routes every time, because it's easy to use the known ship positions as markers, or because you fly a certain route all the time to avoid the ships AA fire. But I'm no expert mission designer so I don't know if it's even possible to do that. Maybe that would require the mission to be re-written each time before each server restart? Which obviously just wouldn't be practical. It would be nice too to hear more people communicating on comms and organising coordinated missions together, but that's more a player base issue than a server issue. But regardless, there's still plenty of scope to fly different sorties and as I say, I'm really enjoying it, getting my multiplayer feather in my cap.

Yes, hopefully people will stick around and it'll stay busy and continue to develop. It got me to try online for the first time, so it's worked in that sense.

I was having a lot of fun online on this server again last night. It seems to be regularly populated with a good number of players. I'm still new to online though and I'm still trying to master taking off well in the different warbirds. I like to switch sides and aircraft to keep things balanced and try different sorties, so I sometimes slip up remembering the different takeoff procedures, ending in a fiery death on the airfield. One Mosquito takeoff attempt ended with me crashing into some chap minding his own business idling at the other end of the airfield in a P47, so apologies if that was you! However, I did manage one successful Mossie takeoff fully laden with bombs, spent ages flying all the way across the channel skimming the waves, undetected, got to the German airfield at Dunkirk without being hit by flak, had the perfect opportunity to drop my bombs on the airfield, but nothing released, I forgot to open the bomb bay doors! I was then promptly shot down by flak and enemy fighters trying to re-attack. I had better success in a Fw190-A though. Flying across the channel at high altitude to avoid the flak I managed to dive bomb Hawkinge and drop a bomb on the parking area. I then flew to Marston and shot up a few parked aircraft before flak and enemy fighters got me! It might not be one of the more historically accurate or serious servers but it's great fun, worth checking out if you're curious about online and want to try it out without any pressure.

Well, for anyone who might be interested, I think it's a Quest 2 air link issue. I switched back to my Rift S and noticed that drop down boxes in the SRS sound settings were no longer locked and a few of the tick boxes in the DCS sound options were no longer greyed out, where they had been previously. So I'm guessing it's something to do with some settings not working over air link. I haven't tried checking the Quest 2 linked with the cable yet to test it, I've reverted back to using the Rift S for now, it suffers from much less lag and stuttering. online.

I've been using my Rift S online with SRS no problems. I use it with headphones plugged into the headset jack and have the world sounds and the SRS comms coming through the headphones perfectly clear. I switched to my Quest 2 to try it for online performance and clarity vs the Rift S. I left everything the same on the sound settings, all I did was unplug the Rift S, restart everything and connect the Quest 2, using Airlink. But now, when I press the SRS PTT button the comms are coming out of the TV, even though the DCS sounds are still coming out of the headphones that are plugged into the Quest 2 headset jack. I've tried every variation in the DCS audio settings and on the TV but I still can't get the comm. sounds to come from the headphones. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it a bug or SRS setting I'm missing somewhere - I can only see an option to use default audio in SRS. Is it an issue with the Quest 2 or the Airlink? Cheers.

Mmm, there's an idea! I love flying the Spitfire usually but last night I did actually switch over because there was a dearth of opponents on the German side.
-
I predict tomorrow everyone will be flying around entirely in Mosquitoes on the Allied side and the German side will be entirely AI!
-
I tried this out last night. Very enjoyable. And, it was my first foray online! I've got SRS working and it was really cool to listen to the radio chatter of the other flyers, though I haven't stumped up the courage to join in yet, which is probably best until I've practiced my Spitfire takeoffs a bit more. No one knows it's me then leaving that fiery mess at the end of the field! Apologies for that! Still, it was great fun flying online and I even managed to bag a couple of Me109s! Even if the second one was only AI. I think my first kill was a human opponent though, by the way the plane was evading. It was a great dogfight until they went into the drink!

Is ED letting down their VR customers?? Yes I'm venting!

I reached the point where I just wanted to enjoy flying DCS in VR without all the endless fiddling, so I've just settled on running the headset that my current AMD 5700XT graphics card can run until I can upgrade it. I went from a Rift S to a Quest 2 to a Reverb G2. After all the reliability issues and replacements I had with the G2, I eventually got a refund and went back to the Quest 2, but I got fed up the battery charging and limited flight time with that, as well as the tweaking that needed because of it's increased resolution over the Rift S, and ended up back using the Rift S. So my DCS VR path is: Rift S - Quest 2 - G2 - Quest 2 - Rift S! Is the instrument clarity of the G2 great? Yes. Do I miss it? No Is the lack of screen door of the Quest 2 and G2 over the Rift S great? Yes Do I really notice it anymore in the Rift S when I'm concentrating on flying? No. The only module I really struggle to read the instruments with, even with VR zoom, is the Gazelle because of it's really tiny text. Honestly, I'm really enjoying flying with my Rift S again. I've always found it more comfortable than the Quest 2 and G2, I can turn on a few nice settings again, like Ultra clouds, buildings and scenery move past smoothly, without any ghosting, when I look out of the canopy and I'm getting a really smooth and solid 40FPS, even flying low over Syria in helicopters, or in intensive missions with lots of AI assets. I know it'll seem like a backwards step to some and I'll probably re-visit a headset upgrade in the future, if a better graphics card ever becomes available again, but in the meantime I'm really enjoying DCS in VR again. -
Do you have ASW enabled? On my system I've noticed this too (Rift S & Quest 2), but only if I have ASW enabled. If I have ASW disabled the effect disappears. Unfortunately I like to have ASW enabled to eliminate ghosting of ground objects so I've just learnt to live with it and I don't notice it after a while. I don't know what causes it or found a way to eliminate it with ASW enabled.

Yes, it looks like a cool idea. I've been waiting to see him post more about it.

I couldn't see that anyone else has posted this news anywhere but it seems like working trains are coming to multiplayer.

I think it locks it at half of whatever you have your Hz set to. So for example, if you have your headset set to 90Hz in the Oculus settings it will lock it to 45fps. I have mine set to 72Hz so it locks to 36fps. If you can achieve a stable 52 fps with ASW off you should be able to force ASW on and achieve a steady 45fps. So basically, it's not half of whatever fps you get with ASW off, it's half of whatever you set your Hz to. - 72Hz - 36fps / 80HZ - 40fps / 90Hz - 45fps

Ok, great, that sounds simple enough. Thank you.

Hi, I've been setting up some practice missions with a friend new to DCS, just hosting private sessions for the two of us to fly together in. We can do that fine and have SRS working for communication. The problem is, if one of us crashes or leaves the aircraft for some reason - ejecting for example, or the server or game crashes, we can no longer talk to each other using the SRS radios to organise setting up another session, we have to resort to texting each other. Is there an option to have SRS work separately to the aircraft radios, or do we have to use something like Discord for that? If we use Discord, I assume we have to download the desktop client but is it possible to host a private Discord session so that only the two of us can chat privately whilst flying our DCS session? Or is the built in DCS voice chat a viable option for this? Is it working well enough? Thanks.

Yes, as Hoirtel says, maybe using OTT is interfering. I don't use any debug tools at all, I just rely on the standard Oculus software running in the background and use the keyboard shortcut (ctrl-keypad3) if I want to see ground units clearly. That works for me. I can't suggest anything else beyond that, sorry.
-
I think you will see a noticeable improvement in FPS if you have terrain textures set to low (you really don't see much difference visually), shadows to flat and MSAA x2. I know you say you don't like jaggies but switching to MSAA x2 should make a big difference to performance and it still looks smooth enough to me. I suggest at least trying it. I find best FPS performance if I have ASW disabled (ctrl-keypad1), but if you want to get rid of the ghosting of ground units that you see when looking out of the cockpit, then Force 45fps with ASW (ctrl-keypad3) should fix it, as long as you can maintain 45fps. I don't bother with OTT either, I just found it was just running another background process and prefer just to tweak my settings in the Oculus software and DCS.

The secondary trigger on my premium grip has developed a fracture so pressing down no longer works. Is it possible to buy a replacement trigger?

to the owners of Reverb G2 and Valve Index...
AlpineGTA replied to MrFlatfoot's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes, a Rift S 'Mk 2' with higher resolution and no Facebook requirement would have been perfect. Sadly, after 4 cables and 2 headsets I returned my G2 for a refund and I'm back to using my Quest 2. The G2 just doesn't seem to have the reliability and ease of use as Oculus, at least in my experience. -
I'm also using a Quest 2 and 5700XT and notice a kind of blurry wobblyness on the periphery of my VR if I leave ASW on default. If I disable ASW (ctrl+keypad 1) it disappears. However, It's not the same thing as the graphical shimmer that lots of people see. I still get that.

A few people use the Pointctrl pointing device, which is supposed to be very good, but there's a long waiting list. I use a left handed trackball mouse on a custom mount next to my throttle. That way it never moves and I can easily locate it by feel while I'm in VR.
-
That's what I had to resort to.

Yes, I've tried clicking there but it doesn't work.
