They're the key binds for the Oculus software, as far as I know. I'm running at 36 forced because I have my refresh rate set to 72Hz, if I had it set at 90Hz it would be 45. It's always half whatever Hz you have your headset set at.

I think you describe much the same that I experience. That's why I too fly with ASW off. I do find that: Force fps 36 with ASW enabled (ctrl-keypad3 Force fps with ASW) does stop ghosting of ground objects when I fly low over them, but I don't like the shimmering at the edges of my vision that ASW produces. I don't know why it does that.

I'm not sure I understand your question. They're not DCS key bindings or anything, they're literally just the keys you tap on your keyboard to switch between the different ASW modes.

Yes, ASW is part of the Oculus software. Some useful keyboard commands to quickly toggle between the different modes, so you can see the effect in-game while you have DCS running: ctrl-keypad1 ASW Disabled. ctrl-keypad2 Force fps (half whatever your refresh rate is set - eg. half 72(36fps), etc.) no ASW. ctrl-keypad3 Force fps with ASW. ctrl-keypad4 Enabled ASW auto.

I wouldn't use Oculus Tray Tool. I don't think it's needed anymore and is just another process that you don't need running. Try these changes to your DCS settings. Some might seem drastic but I think these are the main things that effect FPS and I really don't think you'll notice much difference in visual quality in VR. You can try turning some back on/up later: Textures: Medium Civ. Traffic: Off Shadows: Off Lens Effects: Off Forest Visibility: 60 - 75% Forest Details Factor: 60 - 75% Scenery Details Factor: 60 - 75% Preload Radius: Full Chimney Smoke Density: 1 Cockpit Global Illumination: Off Also, you should be able to run MSAA: x2 to reduce jaggies. I also struggle with deciding whether to run with ASW on, off or auto. None of the ASW settings seem to work completely satisfactory. I either see ghosting of ground objects, ghosting of aircraft or (with ASW on) a shimmering at the peripheral of my vision. I don't have as strong a graphics card as you and have settled on just running with ASW off and lots of eye candy turned off in DCS settings. I'm not sure if it's possible to run completely stutter and ghosting free with a Quest 2, no matter what your FPS and ASW is, so I'd be interested to see what results you get with the settings I recommend above, given that you have a more powerful system than me. For reference I'm using a i6-11600K (I think!), Sapphire AMD 5700XT, Samsung 1Tb SSD, 32Gb RAM and can manage around 40-50-ish FPS in multiplayer.

VR zoom messes up ASP and laser guided missiles on SU-25A
AlpineGTA replied to Harlikwin's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
I think I experienced this problem flying one of the Instant action missions. I locked on a target (flying in VR), zoomed in to try and fine tune but the pipper seemed to jump past the target and the missile overflew and missed. I'll have to fly it again and double check it wasn't just me being ham fisted. -
Since SoW ended I've been playing on Enigma's Dynamic Cold War server, because I'm not keen on BVR either and the cold war jets seemed the next best thing. I've also enjoyed getting back into my helicopters and I like the dynamic aspect of the server. I do like the sound of the changes and improvements that 4YA have made to the SoW maps though so I think I'll be jumping back in and splitting my time between the two. I do miss the simplicity of the WW2 aerial gunnery and dumb bomb and rocket attacks.

I have that mod and at first my immediate thought was that it did feel slightly better, but now after months of use I don't think it feels much different to how it felt standard, there's still a lot of stiction. After all you still have two solid objects resting against each other that require some force to get them moving. I think the best solution is probably just the silicon grease, to ease the sliding of one part over the other, which I've yet to try. Perhaps the best solution would be both the mod and the grease but I suspect, in that situation, the grease is having the greater effect. Edit: Here's the Etsy link I bought mine from. To be fair a lot of people are really happy with it and rate it a big improvement so your experience may differ to mine. https://www.etsy.com/listing/968346749/slider-upgrade-kit-thrustmaster-t16000m

Yes, sorry, I forgot there's only those two options for Terrain Textures, but for the Textures only option above it, there's the medium option, which helps a lot.
-
With the AH-64 you should see an immediate improvement in FPS if you turn the preload radius down to 100000 and turn your Textures and Terrain Textures down to medium. I saw a big jump in FPS by just turning the textures from High to Medium and haven't really noticed any significant difference in visual clarity. I recommend just trying those simple settings changes first before doing anything else.

I don't know if this is a bug/the way it's meant to be/or I have something set wrong - When flying in VR with Petrovich as the Co-Pilot/Gunner and I turn on the three pointed star-like designation reticle to tell him where to look, everything works fine - he finds targets, I'm able to select targets from the list, he fires and successfully guides the missiles onto target, I'm just not seeing the three colour coded boxes that are supposed to appear around the reticle that show the pilot view heading, reticle slant angle, pilot view heading relative to aircraft and that change colour according to whether you're in weapons hold or free fire etc. I don't know whether this is a known bug, that they don't appear in VR, or whether I just don't have something turned on in the options or something? I haven't checked to see if I'm getting the same thing in 2D, I never fly in 2D. Thanks.

Yes, I asked the same question in that thread above. I also asked in the OB patch notes discussion thread but didn't receive an answer. If it's always worked as described then I'd like to know what's new or improved to warrant mention in the patch notes. I'd never tried Ctrl+F11 in VR before seeing the VR free cam mentioned in the patch, so I don't know if anything is different or not. I have noticed that when you're sat in the cockpit in VR and you press Ctrl+F11, the cockpit changes to a much lower poly, more simplified cockpit, presumably to use less frames and resources to make it easier to move around. But whether it's always done that or not, I don't know.
-
That sounds like a really cool thing to try!
-
Can anyone elaborate on the VR: free cam mode? I've asked in the VR forum and the opinion there is it's Ctrl+F11 and was there before the patch, or is it something different to that, or has something new or improved been added to the implementation of Ctrl+F11? Thanks.
-
Are you sure this was before the update? If it was I never knew about it. Anyway, it does indeed work. I was sat in the cockpit of my Bf109 and tried LCtrl+F11 and the cockpit changed to a much simplified 3D model and using the mouse I was able to move outside freely. I use a trackball mouse and I discovered the trackball allows you to move around while the scroll wheel allows you to move forwards and backwards - one click of the scroll wheel backwards move you forwards and one click forwards moves you backwards! The more you scroll the faster you move and you move in the direction you're looking. So if you're looking up you will find yourself moving skyward. Look down to get back to ground level. If you want to stay at ground level and 'walk' around your aircraft you have to keep looking horizontally as you move. If you want to stop moving forwards or backwards you have to move the scroll wheel back the same number of clicks you moved it initially. For example, move the scroll wheel one click back to move forwards and move it one click forward to be stationary again, if that makes sense.

I was just about to post something similar. I haven't had the time to try it yet myself but I'm wondering if this will allow you to effectively walk around your aircraft, without first having to eject, as lots of people have been requesting?

This is a real tragedy. It was the SoW server that got me playing DCS online for the first time and over the last few months it's been the only server that I regularly flew on. I loved, despite the limitations of the game, how dynamic it felt, I loved how they rotated the missions so it never felt stagnent, the commaraderie and comms with people on your team, being able to look up your stats on the webpage afterwards, everything about it was great. There's just no other server like it that I can think of, I don't know where I'm going to go for the same DCS online buzz. Thank you guys for all the fun you provided but it really is a great shame, I hope you reconsider. -
Gladiator NXT Premium Stick Control Bindings
AlpineGTA replied to dmwierz's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
I have the Gladiator K limited edition, which is basically the same stick with a different base and I can map that 8-way hat as my trim button no problem. It's what I use it for on all my planes. Have you tried running the VKB test software and checked that all your buttons are registering as inputs? Also make sure that the stick is properly tightened to the base. Sometimes the screw securing mine to the base has worked loose and I've lost all input. I doubt that's your problem though if all the other buttons are working. Sorry I can't be more help than that. -
I haven't tried 120Hz in a while but I just stick to 72Hz to maximise performance.

Has the flak behaviour been tweaked at all since the latest OB update? -
First of all, I would say spotting aircraft in VR can be difficult in any headset. Perhaps slightly better in some than others, I'm sure other people will comment/have their opinions on that. Regarding the headsets, I went from a Rift S to a Quest 2 to a Reverb G2. The clarity of the G2 was very nice but I hated having to use the mixture of Steam VR and Windows Mixed Reality software to get it to work. The Oculus software is much simpler and easier to use. I eventually returned my G2 after reliability issues. I went through several cables and two headsets. Having said that, I believe the reliability is now much improved with a new cable design. I'm now using my Quest 2 and really enjoying it. The clarity is much better than the Rift S, with virtually no noticeable screen door and, in my opinion, not much less than a G2. I find most of the cockpit instruments clear and readable enough, only slightly less clear than the G2 but much better than the Rift. The standard head strap is horribly uncomfortable though, the elite strap makes it much more comfortable, if still not on par with the comfort of the G2. Regarding the Quest 2 battery life, use it with a powered USB hub and it will stay charged absolutely fine and you can fly in DCS for as long as you want.

Thanks Phil. I'm not sure I'll be able to find another group to form up for it but I'll give the rest of your tips a try. Cheers. -

Can anyone successfully bomb ships? I always seem to get hit by flak and AAA before I get anywhere near. Any tips for the best approach? Dive bombing from high or approach by skimming the waves?
