correct as-is IA Mission - train strafe no longer working
AlpineGTA replied to imacken's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes, the train and smoke was there pre 2.7. I've just tried the same mission on the channel map and I'm getting the same thing - no smoke and no train. Spitfire train strafe Channel map.trk -
Oh brilliant! I didn't even know you could do that. Nice video and nice landing. Thanks for the tip.

I'm running a Quest 2 without any issues at the moment and on older, different hardware to you, so that probably won't be much help, but I can check what settings I'm using in the Oculus software, later when I'm home, in case that's of any help. Edit: So, I'm running my Quest 2 at 90 Hz with 3712 x 1872 resolution and ASW disabled. Bitrate 912 mbps Like you I was running with the resolution cranked up to 5408 x 2736 but at 3712 x 1872 the resolution still seems perfectly good to me, surprisingly. Maybe your problem is your bitrate at only 350 mbps?

Yes, trying a moving ship sounds like a good idea but I'd really like to master this. I think was makes it even harder is the transition from hovering over the water to over the ship and the change that makes in the down draft. Watching the replay back I was actually a lot closer than I realised, mere inches above the deck and nicely positioned. All I had to do was dump the collective and I would have been down but an excited twitch of cyclic swung me off and my rear wheel caught on the fence tipping me over.

Thank you to the hard working Ugra Media team!

Yes, at times it can look stunning and is great for just enjoying flying around at low level in helicopters. Sadly, static pictures don't really do it justice, I swear these screenshots looked about 20 times more impressive when it was in motion: -
Ah, ok, I get it now, (lightbulb comes on), I forgot CP/PD (BUT) is a setting on the INS dial! Thank you.
-
I'm trying to put the thing on the thing but so far I'm failing miserably! It's a challenge but I'm having fun practicing my hover.

Yes, I've seen both those threads but I'm sorry guys, I still don't see in either of those threads where it explains how it's done. For example, in Chuck's guide it explains in clear steps the process needed to carry out an ILS synthetic runway landing, but I'm assuming that's out of date, so I was wondering how it differs and how it's done now without the mission editor. What's CP/PD?
-
So what's the procedure now in order to get the synthetic runway to show? Can someone give a step by step guide in how to set it up? Thanks.

correct as-is IA Mission - train strafe no longer working
AlpineGTA replied to imacken's topic in Bugs and Problems
Do you have civilian traffic turned on? I believe before 2.7 if you had civilian traffic on there was no train visible. Although, there was still white smoke. -
Thanks for the info. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see what they send me and ask them for anything that's missing. Edit: It's just occurred to me, this is not specifically a DCS VR bug, it should probably be in the general VR section.

You didn't have to send your old HMD back? They just sent you a new one? I've had to send mine back and wait for them to receive it before they will send out the replacement. I also sent it with all the USB and power cables, as the instructions in the return box requested, so I hope they send those back with the replacement HMD too. I'm a bit worried now. I had no issue with the lenses on my original HMD so I hope I don't get a duffer replacement.

That's what I've been thinking, due to the stiffness of the cable, I was wondering if they are prone to breaking internally with constant flexing. The first new cable they sent to me they didn't ask for the old cable back, they said they didn't consider it a returnable part or something. I was offered a third cable but I opted to send the whole headset back this time, to get that checked out too, just to be sure. I don't know whether it was just a bit of clutching at straws but the customer service rep thought there was a possibility of a fault with the headset shorting out the cables. Whos know, I just hope I get a working headset back... In the meantime, I've actually ordered some parts to upgrade my PC. It's due an upgrade anyway, and even though it was working, the first customer service rep I spoke to the first time it broke was sceptical that it should even work on my older PC architecture.

I was watching back a replay of my Mi-8 flight and I noticed when pressing F1 for the in-cockpit view it defaults to the centre seat. Pressing 1 or 2 to switch to the pilot or co-pilot seats did nothing. Is there a way to switch the view to the pilot or co-pilot or is the only option the centre seat? Thanks.

VR headsets need a chin strap, or something...
AlpineGTA replied to AlpineGTA's topic in Virtual Reality
Maybe I've found my solution. It's interesting that he says his girlfriend, who has a small head, now finds it comfortable to wear, as I do have a small head myself! -
After speaking to HP again, rather than trying yet another cable, this time I've sent my headset back to them. That was only last Friday. Once they've received my headset they will send out to me an exchange headset and test mine. So the short answer is no, I didn't resolve it unfortunately. Hopefully I will receive a new working headset that continues to work this time. Fingers crossed yours doesn't get any worse. First world problems I know, but it is a pain and a hassle being without your G2 once you're used to the resolution. Fortunately I have my Quest 2 to fall back on but it's not quite the same. @DracI was getting error code 14-2 but previously with my first faulty cable I was getting lots of different error codes that all seemed to be USB related.

Mi-8 Realistic Cold Start Procedure
AlpineGTA replied to Rudel_chw's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Yes, I've just recently started flying the Hip a lot after discovering @vsTerminus videos and really enjoying it, after too much neglect. The tutorials and mission videos are brilliant to watch and have really helped me to understand how better to fly not only the Hip but all the helicopter modules. -
I wasn't using Skatezilla's DCS Update Utility and wasn't even aware you could do that. I installed it, gave it a try and it works great! Thank you!
-
How do you get it to work with Quest 2 and the link cable? Do you just have SteamVR also running in the background? I was using this mod with my G2 but since that is currently broken and I'm back to using the Quest 2 I'm missing the clarity this mod gave when I was using it with the G2.
-
Well, that was short lived, the black screen is back! I suspect it's the cable again, as I've tested it on my gaming laptop and it doesn't work on that either so I don't think it's my PC. Just what I was weary of..., in the back of my mind I was nervous just how long the new cable would last. Either there's some sort of design weakness with their cables or I've just been really unlucky. I've emailed HP again; waiting on their response.
-
I was amazed at the extra clarity when I first got my G2 but I'm even more amazed how this mod makes it even sharper! It's like if you wear glasses and you wipe a smudge from the lenses. You can see how it brings out the texture and detail in the aircraft skin, even when just looking at the main menu wallpaper. I didn't like the extra colour saturation but turning saturation down to 1.0 in the settings seems to keep the colour levels the same. Interestingly, although less noticeable, it also sharpens the image in 2D, so it might even be of interest to those who play in pancake mode.

I also have varifocals but I only really need them for reading. I have varifocal only because my left eye is slightly weak for distance, but my right eye is fine so it compensates, everything looks perfectly clear for distance when using both eyes. In VR I'm able to fly without my glasses and see everything fine because, I believe, VR is set for a certain distance. So I can even read the small text on gauges, which in real life would probably be blurred to me. I'm not sure of the technical reasons how that works but it's like magic!

Yes it sounds like a cable issue to me. If you can test it on another PC and get the same issue I would say it's definitely the cable. @The_Nephilim it took about 3 weeks for my new cable to arrive (which was last Friday) so hopefully you won't have to wait as long as 2 months.
