I have been deleting the limited demo aircraft/mods and thier files/directories after the free time is up. Otherwise on DCS startup it will indicate the typical not authorized for use. That I understand. After having some issues with the update of my version of OB to the latest OB 2.5.6.50979. So I ran the updater with cleanup first and then a repair. Took a long time and just about 8GB for the repair. I noticed all of that was mainly updater re-installing 7 demo aircraft/mods. I look at my autoupdate.cfg file, and sure enough there are all the aircraft listed from the free demo and it caused the demo aircraft to be re-installed, even though the free demo time is up. I only have the original 2 included aircraft and the purchased the F/A-18C. Also purchased the NTTR and PG maps. { "WARNING": "DO NOT EDIT this file. You may break your install!", "branch": "openbeta", "version": "2.5.6.50979", "timestamp": "20200616-151920", "arch": "x86_64", "lang": "EN", "modules": [ "WORLD", "NEVADA_terrain", "FA-18C", "PERSIANGULF_terrain", "F-15C", "SU-27", "F-16C", "A-10C", "UH-1H", "HEATBLUR_F-14" ], "launch": "bin/DCS.exe" }So DCS will not automatically delete the limited free demo aircraft automatically? Then update the autoupdate.cfg file? I guess not, so looks like I/we have to again manually edit another config file to keep DCS running properly? Funny, it says DO NOT EDIT in the code. What have you others done to remove the limited free/demo aircraft mods? Has anyone else have this issue? I'm going to edit the file anyway, seems the only way to fix it. Should be automatic after the free trial period is over.

[CLEANUP AND REPAIR]Missing Cockpit/Rendering after Update?
Noluck replied to Noluck's topic in Bugs and Problems
Cleanup and Repair Completed Have run cleanup and repair. Re-start DCS and with the instant mission as above, appeared to work. I have no mod's except for a custom default.lua for the WH HOTAS ../joystick/default.lua. I joined a multiplayer mission online. Got a partial F1 cockpit view again. I'm sure it's because my system is just to low in RAM and GPU RAM to load a larger server based mission, takes forever to load. I'll take that as a REAL requirement to update my hardware, even though I'm getting 60 FPS+ in NTTR on my own missions. So unless instructed otherwise, time to update hardware anyway. I guess no online missions for me... Another issue during updates, updater will always re-install all those demo Aircraft we had a few weeks ago. I manually deleted them last time to stop the authenticate nag. I will post this in the proper forum... -
[CLEANUP AND REPAIR]Missing Cockpit/Rendering after Update?
Noluck replied to Noluck's topic in Bugs and Problems
Many thanks, I will do that and let you know. -
After update to 2.5.6.50321 from 2.5.6.49798 I have an ineresting issue. At first I flew my primary test mission: F/A-18C->Instant Action->Nevada->Ready On the Ramp to test the update. Everything seemed to run just fine. Then I joined a multiplayer/server and when I was finally set in the hangar, I only had partial rendering of the F1 view. No cockpit, partial parts in forward view and more in the aft view. F2 view worked normally, you could see the aircraft on the ramp. I tried the Instant Action again and same problem, partial aircraft is rendered/shown. Deleted the FXO and Metashader files, re-booted the system. Very strange, first time I have witnessed this. Have not tried other aircraft yet. I'll do that an report back. Images attached: ---

TM Warthog throttle light grey lever on right side
Noluck replied to CBStu's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
I just bought a TM WH. Was concerned that there was jitter on my throttle also. And, you can see the LED's flickering. I thought I had a bad unit. Going to try what you suggested. Thanks. --- -
My Quest : In Search of a TM Warthog Throttle and Stick
Noluck replied to Noluck's topic in Thrustmaster
Man, thank the maker! I was looking around as I usually do searching for a good price on the Warthog (WH) HOTAS. Well, last week in the morning around 6AM I logged into Amazon and checked for availability (they have been sold out for weeks...). To my amazement under the "available under these sellers" link there was an open-box WH set listed for $410 + FREE shipping! It was listed as "package damaged, however like new" and... sitting in a Amazon warehouse. Needless to say, I payed for it right away! They shipped it only using the ORIGINAL box and not packaged! However no damage was found on the outside of the original box nor the units inside themselves. It's kind of strange, damaged box and not a damaged box? Oh, the units were definitely new, not a mark or dust on them. Maybe they were a re-firb? I don't really care. I'm now a proud owner of a decent HOTAS. Already programmed/set it up for the F/A-18C, using mostly default DCS bindings. NOW, it's more realistic and 100% more enjoyable. Now I can also get down to serious training. --- -
Prior to any instant action, you should be able to choose the loadout. Gives newer players a chance to easily select weapons to train with without having to learn mission editor. You have to search and learn that you have to run a ready-on-the-ramp mission, open the canopy, radio ground crew, select a loadout that is already defined, close the canopy. Think along the lines of Falcon 4/BMS, you could easily change the default loadout prior to flying missions. In DCS you have to create custom loadouts in mission editor, then create a mission. To run the same mission with a different loadout, you have to re-load mission editor, edit/change the loadout, save and re-run. Repeat, repeat, repeat...

As a fairly new user of DCS all of these issues are really not affecting me, yet. I have an old system (see my sig) that runs the F/A-18C in NTTR pretty decent with few, maybe 10 AI units + a wing man. I get 60+FPS once airborne and 40 FPS in flying over downtown Vegas. That is with over maxed out system RAM and GPU RAM. I know most here run all the highest settings, I would if I could. I have had no FPS issues with my bare bones 'dino' system, I'm currently running 4.5.6.4978 altough at a tweaked medium setting. I cannot download the latest Beta though. Why?, updater freezes while performing the update downloads. Posted this issue almost a week ago and still no response for a fix. Being new, I'm doing a lot of training and it works for me. But you guy's that run a PC 'super computer' configuration and are experienced here, well these post really bother me in the fact I have already purchased F/A-18C, NTTR, Persian Gulf and a TM WH stick and throttle to start with. Now everyone with the good hardware cannot run the latest Beta? Makes me wonder if I should abort learning this sim if I cannot update my hardware and expect excellent maxed out performance. I really love the sim, it's better than any other fighter based sim out there. So... my question is as a new user, did I just waste my money and time on all of this? I pray I did not and ED will get things smoothed out in the core of the sim code. I'll keep running what I have for now, but I'm not updating nor buying any more modules until all of this has hopefully been address and properly fixed. Been in flight simulation for 30+ years. I know the pain of software and marketing. "Does it work" they ask, "yes... well, sort of... it is still in development". "Good, we have a big demo next week, get everything ready". Great, now it's time to get out the damn sleeping bags and live at work for the next week, just to get ready for the big DEMO. Heck with development, just fix it so it works. Moan... and repeat... FYI: A/A and A/G radar modelling killed our FPS back in the day, the standard was the code had to operate at 30HZ minimum. We ran a processor each for just those programs. Cheers ---

So your a Spectrum user also? Interesting... funny, not hearing back on this issue here... ---

My Quest : In Search of a TM Warthog Throttle and Stick
Noluck replied to Noluck's topic in Thrustmaster
Again, not just buying the throttle. See my original message. Way to expensive. Throttle and Stick combo is OOS and goes for $549 (!!!). -- -
My Quest : In Search of a TM Warthog Throttle and Stick

What TM website? I've been to it when I first posted, I also used the Amazon TM Store. OOS for the stick and throttle combo. --- -
Have you tried the F/A-18C Display Readability mod? I use the mod on a 3 display/monitor 1920x1080 setup and greatly improves the font readability. Without the mod, looks about the same showing here. There are only 4 lines of code to edit. Of course, with any updates you will have to re-do it. This is also listed in the F/A-18 mods files. --- DisplaysReadabilityModifiedV2.5.rar

As a fairly new user of DCS I thought I would share some of my quest to find a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (WH). I have only an AV8R stick, and a set of TM F-16 FLCS sticks and a old throttle. Since those older sticks and throttles use the no longer available 'joystick' 15 pin port I had to find an option. Not to mention, I have about 25+ years as a fight simulation engineer building simulators for the US military, the last project was 8 F/A-18C's. I got to use the 'real' throttles, stick and all the other cockpit goodies. I HAD to have at least a WH to fly with. If I had the $ for the WINWING setup it would be a no brainier. So, I started the usual internet search for a WH. Well, after a whole day looking at any avialbe WH's... and to state it bluntly... if you want a Warthog these days you are going to either have to buy one off of inflated eBay sellers, a really inflated price for overseas sellers (shipping cost!) or place an order on Amazon that is out-of-stock and wait. Buying a separate throttle, stick+base is out of the question, to many $ also. Thrustmaster needs to change their marketing strategy, mainly to price single throttles, sticks and bases so purchasing them is at least close to the packaged WH throttle and stick package and not over-inflated pricing, if we choose to purchase them as individual products. Myself, I wanted just the throttle and then have the choice of either the A-10 stick OR the F/A-18 stick. I know the F/A-18 stick is a little more, so price the package as needed. Here are the numbers that I found, of course this can change day to day. Priced low to high. I wish luck to any one out there trying to find a WH for a decent price!.Attached is a spreadsheet I put my data in while doing the WH quest, I hope it may help some newer members like myself. WH Throttle + Stick: o Amazon TM Store: $371.22 + $77.22 shipping = $448.44 | shipped from UK | status OUT-OF-STOCK o eBay bid: $600 + $34.81 shipping = $624.18 (!!!) | shipped from US | eBay private auction o eBay seller: $597.15 + $118.14 shipping = $715.57 (!!!) | shipped from AU | buy it now WH Throttle Only: o Amazon TM Store: no information | out-of-stock o eBay seller: $367.49 + $65.95 shipping = $433.44 | shipped from Poland | buy it now o eBay seller: $527.49 + $18.04 shipping = $545.44 (!!!) | shipped from? | buy it now WH Stick (A-10) and Base Only: o Newegg: $269.99 + free ship = $269.99 | o Amazon TM Store: $239.65 + $39.79 shipping = $279.44 | shipped from UK | In-Stock o Amazon other seller: $369.73 + free shipping = $369.73 | shipped from ? | WH Stick Base Only: o Amazon TM Store: $149.99 + free ship = $149.99 | o eBay seller: $171.23 + $17.99 ship = $189.22 | shipped from CA | buy it now (10 available) Sticks Only: F/A-18 Stick : Amazon TM Store | $229.99 + free ship = $229.99 | shipped from ? | In-Stock F-16 Stick : Amazon TM Store | $199.99 + free ship = 199.99 | shipped from ? | In-stock A-10 Stick : could not find one, didn't care... So buying separate throttle and stick/base at current pricing would equate to: Throttle: $433.44 + Stick + Base: $149.99 Total: $583.43 I'm still looking, will update if/when I find a WH setup for a decent price. Again, I hope this helps fellow folks in search of a WH, good luck and keep the blue side up. Cheers --- Thrustmaster-HOTAS-Cost-Matrix_200528.pdf

Having the same stalled download using Updater. Our ISP is Spectrum here in central Florida, not sure if it's related but having the same issues as mentioned here. Multiple try's downloading update from 2.5.6.49798 OB to 2.5.6.50321. It would go a bit further then stop... Was working all fine before. Here ya' go: autoupdate_log.txt

Been a user of DCS for about 4 months now and have had no issues downloading updates. However now after usual 'Do you want to update...?' message and then try updating Open Beta from v2.5.6.49798 to latest v2.5.6.50321. Updater (v2.9.17.19) will start to download and after a while it just stops downloading the update. I hit cancel and DCS loads as usual. The <autoupdate_log.txt> Log says 'canceled by user'. I have re-started DCS multiple times, try to update and it downloads a little more, then stops downloading. This happens even if I leave it running overnight. Never had this problem before. Maybe I'll try running updater using command line... [edit] - running <...\bin\DCS_Updater.exe update @openbeta >, well it _almost_ made it to the end, then hung once again. Damn... ---

DCS: F/A-18C Screenshots and Videos (NO DISCUSSION)
Noluck replied to Vitormouraa's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Nellis AFB ready on the ramp : Wingman crash I have a interesting situation I have observed in a F/A-18C Instant Action Mission. I'm fairly new, ~2 months into DCS and the F/A-18C. Selected: Instant Action->F/A-18C->Ready On the Ramp->Nellis. What ever you do, be sure once you apply power and start to taxi toward the runway for take off, either you need to depart immediately or stay left of runway center line. If not, your wingman will taxi out and crash into you if you stop in the middle or right side of the runway center line! Sometimes, it is entertaining to watch. BTW: I still need to figure out how to post an image directly in the message, and not just as an attachment. Is anyone here running X Plane 11 on Winblow's, and also it's Linux version? Have you performed any side-to-side comparison? ---
-
I'm fairly new to DCS, however I can say I have the same issue. I have 3 1920 x 1080 HD monitors. Windows is configured to use 3 monitors, no Nvidia stretching. Setup in DCS Options as 5760x1080. DCS shows 5.333 aspect ratio, that's good. I know your using just one monitor, however this might help you? Same here, with 3 monitors. External it's all fine, in cockpit the left and right screens are distorted just like your indicating. The conditions for all my test including monitors, option/graphics setting, etc is the Instant Action->NTTR->F/18-C->ready on the ramp. Also to mention my hardware is currently old school, even with that being said I manage to run DCS pretty consistently at 40-60 FPS. I capped the setting to 40 FPS in the autoexec.cfg file. Just sharing my observations for now, if could find a fix for it I would post that also. Anyway, maybe this will at least let you see what I could determine. One using the Option '1 Screen' and the other using the '3 Screen' monitor settings. Options->Monitor->1 Screen (1 camera/viewport) : o the center screen looks normal as far as FOV and scaling, however... o the HUD and MFD's text is fuzzy and hard to read o the Left and Right views are stretched getting worse toward the outsides o F2/outside views do look normal though, no distortion on left or right displays o FPS is 40 parked and ready on the ramp Now I set Options->Monitor->3 Screen (3 cameras/viewports) : o center screen looks fine as before, however... o the HUD and MFD's text is tack sharp and easier to read o the Left and Right views look normal with no issues seen o F2/outside still good o here is my biggie, still just parked on the ramp my FPS dropped all the way down to ~19 I'm still working on learning DCS in and out not to mention learning the Hornet. So I'm kind of stuck on the 1 Screen option for now and just deal with the side distortion unless there is something I'm not doing properly. The thing is, if the external view looks normal and only the inside cockpit view is distorted on the outer displays... maybe there is a setting some where for the outer FOV and aspect? Xplane is a LOT easier to setup multiple monitors. If you find out anything more, please chime in. And I'll do the same. Cheers ---
-
I'm new to DCS and very interested in just how to do the same thing. BTW. the '3screen' setting in the DCS Options menu creates 3 viewports/camera's. I can't run it due to outdated hardware (that I am in the middle of updating), that causes my FPS to drop dramtically. Running '1screen' is what I do for now, even though there is distortion to the left and right displays, not to mention the fuzzy text/lines on the MFD's and HUD in the center view. DCS is very lacking in easy to find sources to answer questions, in particular this type of setup. I just wish DCS had a monitor setup like Xplane 11, it's so easy to configure once you play with it. DCS = I'm at a loss. I wish we had a way to talk to a systems/software person directly. If I find anything I'll let you know, but don't get your hopes up. Good luck! ---

Any idea what physically causes that 'whooot' sound when throttling up? Almost every turbine engine does that, even airliners. Change in airflow though the engine? That would be a great sound to add to the F/A-18C in DCS. Go NAVY! --
