New High-End Alder Lake PC Build - Advice Please
Bossco82 replied to obious's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah if I wanted to have Intels latest I would get the 12600k with a DDR4 motherboard and use the Dram already have. Everything I saved on that I would spend on a 3080ti. However in these very odd times. My AMD 5600x and 6800xt are doing just fine and DCS looks damn good. -
New High-End Alder Lake PC Build - Advice Please
Bossco82 replied to obious's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ah sorry, not what I meant there. I am using AMD and planning to upgrade to Win 11 soon. Sorry Bitmaster I didn't write that out well enough. What I meant was that Intels latest generation is designed around Win 11 so to take full advantage, dont you need Win 11? If you planned on sticking to Win 10 wouldn't AMD be a very reasonable option because you need Win 11 to take full advantage of the usage Intels E and P cores. I thought there was something different about the scheduler in Win 11 made for that. -
New High-End Alder Lake PC Build - Advice Please

Having owned a 9900k that was a golden sample with a copper IHS and could do 5Ghz on stock voltage, my current out of the box AMD 5600x is slightly better for DCS and other flight sims. If that puts it into perspective. I think you would be limiting yourself and this would be more of a sidestep upgrade. Any of the niggles with Intels new architecture will be ironed out fairly soon. If it was my money I would probably get the 12700k with a DDR4 motherboard and then save what is leftover and put it to a 3080ti. Another option is to only consider a 5800x/5900x and a X570 motherboard with DDR4. This would still be a step forward over the setup you have now. If I was absolutely positive I wanted to stay with WIn 10 for a couple more years I would go the AMD route. If I was just waiting for Win 11 to mature a little until say Easter time. I would go for Intel on a DDR4 motherboard. -
I hear you mate, cant comment on the marriage part though I missed that boat twice. However going by one that could have been. That might have been a nice thing to be part of. On the other hand from what I have been told it looks like I didn't miss a bullet with the other chance. Instead more like Tomahawk missile with a high yield warhead on board! I do not regret pulling the yellow handle and going through the canopy to escape that rodeo. On a different note and much more interesting. If you do ever need a cheap fan. I fitted some "UPHere" 140mm red led fans to a my own PC when I was stuck for cash. I planned to swap them out when I could afford replace them for Corsair or similar. I still have them fitted, they really are very quiet even up to 1000rpm.

Amen to that Bitmaster. However sometimes I feel like Mulder attempting to solve an X-files special episode.

NEED ASSISTANCE WILL PAY
Bossco82 replied to Bravohorn1's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
HI Bravohorn, I have to ask a question and please take it the right way. Did you know that in DCS you have to set the controls up for each plane individually? Even the axis commands? The HOTAS controllers will do absolutely no plug and play at all. You have to set them up for each individual aircraft. For example I have DCS working with the F-14, F-18 and F16. I have never got around to setting up the MIg-29 for example. If I went and loaded a mission for that it would do exactly like your saying no input at all. So in DCS please try the following. GO to settings and for a test select F-14 Pilot controller settings. On the settings page is a drop down menu for each individual plane. Go and see if your axis commands are working in there. It will be similar to Windows, you get a box that moves when you move the stick or rudder. Sometimes when you set them up they can be the wrong way around. So please check the axis points the right way. Settings for controls and HOTAS can be very fiddly. I have made all these mistakes myself when I got into DCS. What I would do is focus on getting one game and in DCS getting one plane working properly first then move on to the next. If you can try the F-15 to start its one of the simpler ones. Check this video for help Golden rule. IF you can see the controller working in the windows properties for that controller. AND you can see that controller as an option in the headers on the controller page for example the F-15 in DCS. It should work its just not setup in DCS controller settings correctly. Check these screens from my own PC as a guide. Check the video for help to. I have been playing flight sims and setting up PC's since 1998. I make schoolboy errors all the time and regularly want to throw it on a bonfire some days, its normal because there are just so many settings to consider now. Worth it in the end though. If you can see all that like I have in those screens but for your X52 you should be ok once its setup in DCS like on the bottom two screens. Here is a video...it might not be completely relevant to your X52 hotas but it will help you get the idea. Good luck come back to us if you have a problem but please check if you can replicate what I have shown you or not. If you cannot replicate what I have shown in the screens and in the video. You must have a hardware problem. You are more than welcome to PM me for any advice. NO payment mate i'm happy to help. -
I need advice for my system
Bossco82 replied to sanc2775's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
DCS prefers Nvidia for higher resolutions. I am saying that as an AMD 6800xt owner, I am no fanboy. I would say 3070 would be a bare minimum. Go on Youtube and check out DCS optimisation videos by "Point Blank". A good used 2080ti would be really good for that resolution. -
Graphics Cards, Monitors. What A Headache
Bossco82 replied to tmansteve's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
What Hector said, I had a 2060 super when I was using 1080p, fantastic GPU. -
I dont see a problem buying a used GPU. Even more so if you get a 2 year warranty. My 6800xt this year was the first brand new gpu I bought for myself in over a decade. Just give it a good physical check, install it carefully and then check its performance in game. Whether its worth it to anyone personally. What is the pleasure its going to give you vs the cash sitting in your bank?

Yeah just do what Javelina and Rudel advised. There is no straight answer nowadays, if your system feels right then its probably ok. What you have nowadays is a correct way to do things which will work, then, there are better options to take if they are available. Thats your situation with this. Even if there is no performance difference. If God forbid a virus, bad update or something takes out your OS. Your copy of DCS is safe on the other drive. I think when we had the Sata SSD's (like my Crucial MX500) if you had DCS and the OS on the same drive when the OS accessed something while DCS was running it could cause a macro stutter. Page files and all that stuff. Its my opinion that on faster Nvme's it doesn't matter anywhere hear as much. So the advice you read correct. If I could I would do the same. I am pondering getting a 512gb Sabrent rocket for my 2nd slot so I can have only DCS on that. Mainly because it does take longer to load if its on the Crucial Sata SSD. I just cant afford it this side of Xmas.
-
Hi Ged, I forgot to add this. I have a Sabrent Rocket Nvme 1tb drive. That has my Win 10 pro OS a few basic utility programs, Photoshop and DCS. My loading times for DCS are super quick and I have no pauses or macro stutters from loading in missions. Going from the map view to the cockpit view is instant. I have my other games (Steam folder) on a Sata Crucial MX500 1tb drive. They have no problems either. I tried DCS on the Crucial drive and it was a little slower but not by much and only the initial loading. So I run DCS on my Nvme. Its my opinion but if you have something as fast and large as a 1tb Nvme, it doesn't matter.

Graphics Cards, Monitors. What A Headache
Bossco82 replied to tmansteve's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah if its not broke dont fix it. I recently got a 1440p freesync monitor and it was actually a headache to get my sims running at 60fps smoothly. This was because it has a 48-75hz variable refresh rate. If it was me and I played fps games seriously I might get a monitor that had a 144hz refresh rate then use a 60 limiter for my flight sims. I dont do that though so for flight sims a 60hz monitor is fine. As long as DCS looks good enough for you at 60fps just get a 60hz monitor and save yourself some hassle. -
To be honest Ged33, I dont think it matters too much because those drives are so fast anyway. Rudels advice is probably the best way to go though for now.
-
My opinion is that upgrading from a 9600k to a 9900k will give you almost no performance increase in DCS. Especially if you already have a solid 4.9Ghz overclock.

Hi Sanc2775, What the other have asked, what DCS settings are you trying to run? What resolution are you trying to run them at, IE your monitors resolution? What is your FPS performance now? -
Choppy Trackir View with Vsync off on 60hz monitor
Bossco82 replied to Ram69's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Well I am not gonna join in any Track IR based argument. Its only going to get in the way of Ram69 solving his problem. Ram69 if you continue to have a problem running DCS in any way mate please feel free to drop me a pm for any ideas that might solve whatever problem that might be. Take it easy all. -
Choppy Trackir View with Vsync off on 60hz monitor
Bossco82 replied to Ram69's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Running at 60hz is not a requirement for Track IR to function. IE, you move your head and the first person camera view in the moves around. In that sense whoever says that is correct. However, running at an fps IE 60hz which is inline with the polling rate of the Track IR at 120hz, it can be divided. This helps to reduce the effect of stutter seen when panning the head movement and looking around. So V-sync is it is not a requirement to "run" Track IR with a game. It simply increases the chances of seeing a lot less stutter or tearing. I have a freesync monitor so I can lock my fps between 55-75hz and DCS will look smooth as long as I dont use Track IR. As soon as a I start looking around with Track IR at an fps other than 60hz there is a visible tear line and micro stutters. Running your game in sync with the Track IR's polling rate is simply good practise to ensure "butter" smooth performance when playing something like DCS on a flat panel with Track IR. Its not that V-sync is essential, V-sync is the setting that keeps everything at 60fps/hz if you have a 60hz monitor which is then inline with the Track IR's polling rate. Something else to take note of. Some users dont notice this and others do notice this. I use a 32" monitor and I do notice it, its obvious. If I used a smaller monitor say 24", and I have checked this. It is not nearly as noticeable I have to look for it but its still there. Its only my opinion but whatever you have if your running a Track IR with any monitor maintaining a constant 60fps is a sure way of getting the smoothest experience. -
Graphics Cards, Monitors. What A Headache
Bossco82 replied to tmansteve's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi mate, It would be useful to know the rest of your spec to be honest. That way whatever is suggested will not cause a bottleneck in your PC. Regarding the monitor, I dont use DCS above 60fps so a simple 60hz monitor would be fine in my opinion. Using 144hz monitors tends to be just for FPS games. There are a lot of Freesync monitors avaiable now they are usually shown as 75hz monitors. Thats because that is there maximum refresh rate. They should be advertised as Freesync 48-74hz variable refresh rate monitors to make that clear. These can have their Freesync turned off and in that case can be switched between 60hz or 75hz. Freesync simply offers more options. So I would say either get a 60hz monitor or one with Freesync 75hz max. It does not really matter for DCS too much. As for your GPU I know that at the moment, some members might mention the upcoming Vulkan release, however its not here now. Nvidia really does outperform AMD for DCS. I know from experience using both cards this year. Now you mention jagged lines. I play DCS at 1440p and using MSAAx4 really sorts out the jagged lines for me. I would say that for 1080p and using 4xMSAA a 3060ti would be the minimum when using this alongside high settings. To add a little more information I know users playing with 3440x1440 are using 3080's 3080ti's and 6800xt's to be able to turn up the higher settings and maintain a solid 60fps. Scaling that down led me to suggest a 3060ti, however DCS is very graphically demanding, if you wanted to use supersampling you might need a 3070. -

Thats a very good explanation there regarding V-sync and Track IR. Couldn't put it better. -
Choppy Trackir View with Vsync off on 60hz monitor
Bossco82 replied to Ram69's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Ram69, Answer me one question here please mate. Is the problem your trying to solve the fact that you CANT get your Track IR smooth enough for YOU without V-sync? I ask this question because a mate of mine runs without V-sync for Sturmovik using a Track IR, he has no problem. I CANNOT use his system like this as I would get a headache, to ME its really choppy. I think sometimes what is stuttery to one is not to another. So it becomes subjective. I am someone who is super sensitive to stutters because I am sensitive to strobe lighting etc, it really gives me a headache. The smoothest experience I have achieved for MYSELF is to either run with V-sync enabled in the GPU control software and in whatever game I am playing when I am using a non variable refresh rate monitor. It has been that way for me with flight sims for the past 10+ years. I therefore have to tune my graphics settings in the game to make sure my PC can produce 60fps plus 99.9% of the time. I stress this is for me to have a happy flying time. Setting up for a variable refresh rate monitor is different but does not apply to you situation anyway. While I am asking what CPU and Dram are you running with that 3080? I ask because a 3080 should have no problem whatsoever holding 60fps plus in DCS at the resolution of your monitor. Achieving a smooth experience shouldn't really be a problem. -
Choppy Trackir View with Vsync off on 60hz monitor
Bossco82 replied to Ram69's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Right ok that information helps. I have physically had a 3080 in my own PC running DCS with a Track IR and it was as smooth as, even Syria. You have two separate issues you need to stabilise. Track IR and FPS, deal with these separately. For your FPS from using a 3080 you can leave pretty much anything in the NV control panel alone. Apart from setting "prefer max performance" You have so much headroom with a 3080 using 1440p ultrawide. You should be able to use high settings with the trees and buildings radius at max. Shadows really knock fps about when flying low and when your landing. Try those at low they still look fine. Set MSAA to 4. Basically you need your monitor, GPU and DCS locked to 60fps otherwise you will get tearing and chops and stutters. Your monitor has no variable framerate tech so that is determining you running at 60hz. If you did have a variable rate monitor this would not apply to you. The Track IR. Turn the usb selective suspend to "disabled". That will stop Windows turning it on and off, it can happen. Open the Track IR software and see if its working correctly first. If you could share your profile that would help too. Like "Hoss" said. I can also share a profile I know works well. He is also correct about running 1024 not 1024 every frame. Running ultrawide you might get the occasional and I mean occasional hiccup, but it should not be a constant thing. Its just more noticed because its a curved ultrawide monitor. This can be a pain to get right but it sounds like your a couple of clicks away from a smooth experience. Final question, is the face of the Track IR clean? You using the hat clip or the pro clip with the led's. If its the pro clip are the led's lighting up properly. -
Choppy Trackir View with Vsync off on 60hz monitor
Bossco82 replied to Ram69's topic in Game Performance Bugs
HI Ram69, There are a few rules to follow to get a smooth experience in DCS using Track IR. I can tell you more if I have your GPU and your monitor model. Basically if you do not have a Freesync or Gsync capable monitor then you need to run with V-sync set to on. Otherwise you will get some tearing regardless of if you are using a Track IR or not. You will also get tearing if your framrate fps drops below probably 55ish for any length of time. Ideally you need you GPU to be able to stay at about 65 to maintain 60. So its a balance of settings vs what your GPU can handle. I had this problem for ages and ages and it could be a few things. This is what can affect Track IR only. Do you have usb selective suspending disabled in your Windows power options? Are you using a non powered usb hub? Is the actual Track IR unit plugged directly into the motherboard? What are your Track IR settings, do you have a smooth enough profile in the first place. I have a AMD 6800xt and a Freesync monitor so I can play around with variable framerates. In DCS if you drop below about 55ish FPS Track IR will look very choppy, thats normal. Your DCS settings look ok, maybe change FXAA=on but I need to know your GPU first. 100-120fps over Syria, what altitude id that at though. Whats the fps down low?
