  1. HI Hiob, any chance you could share the model number of that LG Oled with me? I use to use a Hisense TV for a monitor but I experienced colour dithering on semi transparent textures.
  2. Hi VitS, Thanks for checking that for me, actually really helpful. I was curious as to whether its shader core count or memory bandwidth that causes the limit for me personally at 4k. Compared to my 6800xt at 3840x2160 I get 55-65fps same settings and mission. That difference has got to be caused by the resolution increase.
  3. Cheers Hiob, didn't know that i'll keep that in mind. I've not seen them in online stores in the UK. To be honest though if I was thinking of upgrading dram at the moment I would have to weigh up on DDR5. IE cost vs what you get for upgrading etc etc. I'm running a 5600x X570 system right now so on the fence regarding what comes next and the gains it offers.
  4. I dont think I have maxed out my 32gb of G Skill 3200 C14, DCS runs great with it. I do only fly DCE single player campaigns though. Dont downgrade to 16gb or even sidestep to 32gb of faster dram you wont see much difference if any at all. The only way is up and buying 64gb of ddr4. Someone correct me if I am wrong I dont think I have seen 4x16gb sticks of C14 ddr4 in a kit??? Something like 4x16gb 3200/3600 C16 should do the job very well though.
  5. Hi VitS, Its just curiosity mate, what are the flat panel fps like on your 6900xt? Just interested how it compares to the 6800xt.
  6. Applesinduck, I have a 5600x too coupled with a 6800xt. If I try Windows 11 again and it woks i will share it on here. I never 100% found out what the problem was. Thats why I found your suggestion about Track IR so interesting.
  7. Sorry I didn't mean I had experienced that issue. I wondered if what you were sharing could have been the reason for my stutter fest after upgrading to Windows 11. Apologies mate. When I saw that DCS performed noticeably worse in Windows 11 over Windows 10 I presumed it was due to the AMD latency problem, I use a AMD 5600x. I had not heard of "foreground prioritization" before I saw it mentioned in this thread. I rolled back to Windows 10 because of what looked like a loss in fps/stutter. I never 100% found the cause and I have not tried again yet. Still on Windows 10 at the moment.
  8. I found this about "foreground prioritization" interesting too. Using DCS with Track IR on Windows 11 recently I had a stutter fest, I'm wondering if it could be this. I also reverted back to Windows 10 because of this problems. My other first person shooter gamers that dont use Track IR ran fine.
  9. That a fair point about the Vram. Playing at 4k Vram is important to me too. I had my 6800xt installed and literally swapped out for my friends EVGA 3080. So thats 16gb of GDDR down to 10gb of GDDR X, it did not effect/bring a drop in frames/fps. They were actually pretty much identical. Bear in mind that was no tweaking just fitting it and installing latest drivers etc. I only had the 3080 in my machine for a couple of hours on an afternoon. The Nvidia 3080 and above cards having the X version of Vram means that the size of the Vram is not an indication on performance.
  10. Yeah if you have got a 1080ti its not worth it going to a 3070. If and its a big if, you find a 3080 at a price right for you go for that. Failing that wait for prices to stabilise a bit next year, fingers crossed! Seriously though I think a 3070 might be a sidestep to be honest with you. To put it into perspective I play 4k and had a 2080ti. I bought a 6800xt and have used a 3080 and a 3080ti. I wish I had waited saved more and bought a 3080ti.
  11. Thanks Xoxen, Yeah I'm sure it will improve too. By no means am I getting a bad experience. I would probably be impatient too mate and get a 3080ti. This side of Xmas I'm trying to keep my sensible head on. Nice chatting with you.
  12. Thanks for the reply Xoxen. I found pretty much identical. I am really impressed with the new AMD stuff. I had a 3700x cpu and a 5700xt gpu before and the step up to what AMD produced in 2020 is tremendous. I went from a 2080ti to my 6800xt and in every other game, IL-2, Battlefield 5, Sniper Elite 4, Call of Duty WW2 and Project Cars. The 6800xt was better than my 2080ti, better than the 3080 I tested which was EVGA and comparable to the 3080ti I tested also EVGA. In DCS though and only DCS Nvidia card have a definite advantage especially handling MSAA. Until I saw posts from yourself and Pointblanks videos on Yotube. The difference is so obvious when you have both I thought I had an installation error or something. It would be nice to know for certain what causes such a difference. Just to settle the curiosity.
  13. HI Xoxen, I'm curious mate, did you find the same in other games or is that just DCS? My 6800xt is fine at 4k native resolution with my other games, its DCS that makes it reach its limit but only when I am running native 4k resolution.
  14. I'm running the latest chipset driver's and bios for my motherboard. Nothing exploded. Amd 5600x and MSi X570. I had a blip like this that cleared itself while I went through the usual gremlins. Thing like DDU and Memtest 86 are good things to have on hand. Running a high end system it's good to have something like a USB stick with a software toolkit. Should anything start playing up.
  15. I gotta admit I always keep my driver's up to date too. I tend to do my mobo bios once a year maybe twice. C3PO for now I would chalk this up to a corrupted install, it does happen. With Windows 11 being released a lot of updates are flying around at the moment. Something could have gone wrong. Bad download or something, maybe. If you do run into any further problems try running a memtest86 on your dram to rule it out. Should be ok though. If you have any problem just post up on the forum. Plenty of informed members giving practical advice on here.
  16. Hi C3P0, Try downloading MSi Afterburner beta. Inside it is Rivatuner. Go through the settings. Enable the overlay to show core clocks, GPU clocks and dram usage. Whatever might be a problem when this happens. You don't have to run it all the time because you can set an overlay shortcut key. I know you have a 3090, is that with a 5800x on x570. Also do you use VR or flat panel? Your problem is a weird one. Sometimes when a driver works then fails then works again. Something could be wrong elsewhere. It's just not showing itself enough.
  17. Yeah I didn't spend long using Win 11. I got the impression that my icons had moved, the right click menus were more annoying. It took longer to get into deeper settings. It also seemed geared up to social media users and felt more like my Android phone. I liked the look but I actual missed the more practical feel of Win 10. I'm on the fence.
  18. Yeah to put this one into perspective if you are like me and use a 4k monitor, you will probably use vsync @ 60fps. Also at 4k it's my opinion but anti aliasing is not really important anymore. I've used these card this year and know a 2080ti, 6800xt and a 3080 can do this very very well on high settings with SSAO and max trees/clutter. What sets the 3080ti apart is I could do a quick test with 4x MSAA enabled and fly downtown over Dubai in a F-16. The other difference I should include is that using a watt meter I noticed the system pulling nearly 500w to do this. Temps were higher too but not at their limit. My system with the 6800xt uses about 260-300 watts without any anti aliasing. In the UK the 3080ti is roughly a £400 premium over a 6800xt too. I Just really wanted to backup the OPs point that DCS seems to favour Nvidia GPUs in the FPS race. However if your using vsync or similar for VR. Does it matter?
  19. Hi Netizensmith, Yeah just so I dont confuse anyone. A mate of mine bought a 3080 about the same time I bought my 6800xt. In exchange for fitting it for him and setting up the drivers etc. I tested it in my own system and it was slightly better in DCS over my 6800xt. Rough figures my 6800xt peaked around 75fps the 3080 78fps. I use Vsync 60fps so I thought what the hell! Same guy bought a 3080ti recently and again I got to check it out in my system. It was much better than my 6800xt, with vsync disabled so I could see how much. 90-95fps vs 70-75fps. The other thing my 6800xt will struggle if MSAA is used at 4k. The 3080ti didn't still managed high 70's Other games, Sniper Elite, Battlefield 5, Sturmovik, were all fairly even checked on a quick test as I was mostly focusing on DCS and he wanted to take his system home.
  20. Thats odd, I have a X570 MSI Gaming Edge using the 7C37v1G3 bios and I am using those chipset drivers on Windows 10. I did all the updates in prep to upgrade to Windows 11. I'm ok on Windows 10 but on Windows 11 it was a stutter fest like you described! How strange!
  21. Hi C3PO, Thanks for the heads up. Do you remember the version number or date of those drivers?
  22. Ah ok, I'll take that on board thanks mate. I'm curious if you have the time. What would you list in the downsides. I didnt spend much time in Win 11 I just tested DCS and rolled back when I saw the fps hit.
  23. I agree knowing the specs on the rest of his system would be useful. However, I own a 6800xt and I have used a 3080 and a 3080ti when installing them in systems for friends. In almost every game I tested including other flight sims the difference between the Nvidia and AMD GPU's performance reflects what is seen in popular and reliable review sites. Thats using a recent 6 core or more Intel or AMD based system. It makes no difference. In DCS though there is a big difference, Nvidia is clearly better. My 6800xt should be better than a 3080, its not, the 3080 is ahead. The 3080ti even more so. If you look at Point Blanks videos on Youtube, same results. It could be the larger memory bandwidth. I dont know. It would explain why DCS requires such a leap in GPU power when going up in resolution, ie, 4k. As I have put in other posts getting DCS to run a solid 60fps at 4k is a pig. I dont have a massive game library to compare all this I admit. Something about the DCS game engine performs better on Nvidia at the moment! I'm not in a position to swap my 6800xt at the moment. Plus it performs equally to Nvidia in every other game I own. I'll wait and see if any updates such as Vulkan makes a change in DCS.
  24. I'm a big fan of undervolting. A custom curve in MSI Afterburner is a good route. I don't see it doing any harm in DCS. See what frequency you GPU maxes out at in DCS then match that with the voltage once you run the OC scanner. Not handled a 3090 personally but it worked on a 3080 and 3080ti. Plenty of guides on YouTube.
  25. Cheers for letting me know mate. I might check it out over the weekend. The original fix for the fix didn't work to or me. Third time's a charm!
