Custom Snap Views

FOXFIRE TWOONE

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to set custom snap views in 1.2.4 for the last two days. But can't figure out the problem. After I change the line in config view from true to false the default view in the A 10 Sim is the left back panel over the radios. I have tried repair numerious times, deleting the view and snapview default lua and replacing with saved orginal and repair followup, but the default view in the sim will still be the radio panel instead of the cockpit. I am making sure that the last view in sim is cockpit panel before changing the view ( true to false ).

So will I need to or can I delete all view lua files and or backup files that number 7 and the view file in saved games to get this thing to correct itself. :helpsmilie:

Had no problem with this in prior updates.

Thanks

I can't do it either. If I set "usedefaultsnapviews" to "False" the HUD symbology is too big for the HUD frame and the snap views don't work.

How do we set and save custom snap views in 1.24?

I was able to fix mine by deleting all view lua files. Then do a repair. Then the customizing.

Here is the procedure for customizing.

customizing snap views

There are ten customisable Snap Views, accessed via a key combination involving the numeric keypad keys 0 to 9. The "default view" (normally bound to numeric keypad 5 with no modifiers) is also treated like a Snap View for customisation purposes, though it does not otherwise behave like one.

The default bindings in DCS A-10C Warthog are:

Num0 Momentary-action snap view (while held) of control panel. LWin+Num1 .. LWin+Num9 Momentary-action snap view (while held) of various areas of cockpit, hud and external views Num0+Num1 .. Num0+Num9 Same as for LWin+Num1 .. LWin+Num9 RCtrl+Num0 Changes snap views to "toggle" mode. Num1 .. Num9 (with no modifiers) will switch view to the corresponding snap view, and stay there until the user selects a different snap view, or taps Num0.

Customisation

You can customise the predefined position of any snap view, and of the "default" view. Customised view positions will be permanently saved in the game's configuration files.

By default, in DCS A-10C, DCS Black Shark 2 and DCS World, customisation of snap views is disabled. To enable it you must alter one line in one of the LUA files, as follows:

In the DCS A-10C or DCS Black Shark 2 installation folder, then folder config, then folder view, find file View.lua

Look for the line (about 50 lines down):

UseDefaultSnapViews = true

and change it to

UseDefaultSnapViews = false

Next time you start the simulation, snap-view customisation will be possible.

Customisation Procedure

The keystroke RAlt+Num0 (default binding) will save the current view position against the last-selected Snap View, or against the "default" view if that was the last selected. The simplest procedure for customising a Snap View is as follows:

Customising a Snap View

1. Set your current view up as you want it saved.

2. Press LWin+NumN - NumN being whichever numeric keypad key you intend customising. Your view will briefly snap to whatever the current snap view setting is for that key, then return to your previous view.

3. Press RAlt+Num0 - The snap view should now be saved.

Test it by changing your view, then holding down LWin+NumX - you should see your customised snap view!

Customising the Default View

1. Press Num5 to reset your view to the current default.

2. Adjust your view to what you want as the new default but do not use any snap view keys in the process!

3. Press RALT+Num0 - your new default view should now be saved.

Test it by changing your view, then pressing Num5 - your view should return to your customised default!

Restoring the Factory Defaults

To discard your customisations and return to the factory default snap views (and "default" view), you need to delete the SnapViews.lua file from the config\view folder (i.e. the same folder where you edited the View.lua file earlier). After deleting SnapViews.lua, make a copy of SnapViewsDefault.lua (also found in the same folder), and rename that copy SnapViews.lua.

Hi Foxfire

Thanks for the great summary of snap views.I have been working through it as I am keen to set up some custom views. Everything works as described up to when I press rctrl+Num0 to toggle to the sticky vies. When I press the various Num keys 1-9the various views do not display for some reason. Have no issue with the snap views when using lwin-Num1-9

Can you or anyone advise what I can do to resolve this issue??

Thanks

Heres what I dont understand, my snap view for the radios only show the AM & UHF,, The FM is not in view. I want to change it so it pans down to show all 3. The instructions on WIKI and noted above indicate to "Set your current view up as you want it saved."

Now heres what I dont understand, when I go to snap view for the radio, once I am there, I cant pan around to change it to the position I want to then save it. So how is it done?

For the A-10C go to Start/user name/saved games/DCS/Config/View/Snapviews.lua Using notepad++, find line 135 and change the value to 79. You can always go up or down a bit with that number until you get what you like. Illustration attached.

Another way to do it is with Track IR. When you first get in the pit hit LWDWS+NUM1 and release. Then using Track IR, move to the side and get the exact view of the radios that you want using body motion and zoom. When you have it set, pause Track IR and hit RALT+NUM0 to save it. now when you hit RWDWS+1 it will be your new saved view.

Heres my 1st problem, there is no "View" file in my users directory? (as shown in the below snap shot)

The file I was looking at is located here: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\View\snapviewsdefault.lua

Change it there then. The worst that can happen is you change it back.

Thanks,, yeah, I have been experimenting with that,, you are correct, that at least zooms out to see all the radios,, been trying to figure out how to pan down,,, the vangle line I can get to pan up by decreasing the default value, but increasing it does not seem to have an impact.

I can live with zooming out, the only thing that concerns me is that the readme file for this file states all changes should be made in the user file snapview file (which for some reason I dont have ?) and also the comments within this file state the same,,, I hope that doing this the way I am,, opposing the instructions,,, will not create any issues? Especially with an update? we shall see,,, thanks for the help

The reason you don't have a view folder in your saved games folder is because you have never modified and saved one of the snap views. IMO there is no potential for the change you made to cause problems, however if you do a DCS Repair or install an update in the future the settings will be returned to default and you will need to repeat the process.

Do you know what the default command is for saving? Not the keyboard command,, but the name in the controls option? I say that because I remapped keys for the snap views(long story) they work fine with my Cougar HOTAS w/Foxy software, but if I can do a save, that might help me. The WIKI instructions dont help me specifically because it states what key commands to hot for a save. Hope that makes sense?

If you want to change the name of the keystroke that appears in the control options menu you can do that by editing the keyboard lua file in the saved games config folder.

Hi Fakum

Don't each aircraft have/save their own Snap Views ?

I know I have saved views for at least 3 of my Aircraft Mods and haven't noticed any of them being changed when saving views in another.

But the truth is ... I really don't know. I'm only making an observation from my own experience.

I have made custom snap views of the Fw-190, Bf-109, and F-86 lately.

In case my optical sight goes down, which occurs too often, I made backup zoomed-in views right to centerline of the 2 WWII planes' iron sights that are default in the cockpit's front view, left of center. In the F-86, I set part of the front canopy's glass as a reference point and did the same.

I also have views looking back over my tail both left and right as a "check six" of the 3 planes.

These are all mapped views to specific buttons on my throttle and joystick.

These custom snap views get saved specific to each aircraft's snap view folder.

I finally took the plunge to figure out how to do this. Now to do same for my Ka-50 with a backup sight, because once my HUD goes down I am useless.

As Blooze said earlier in this thread, if an update somehow overwrites the custom snap views created, they all will have to be redone, or at least the ones that were overwritten. The only way out of this MAYBE is to create a mod for each aircraft and use JSGME; just remember to disable all mods before doing an update.

Player defined snap views are stored in the Saved Games folder and will not be overwritten or modified by an update, repair or the reinstallation of the sim.

I know Im a little rusty with this, and I do recall that,, but when I look at that snapview file, there is no "Huey" Line in there to edit?

File located at:

C:\Users\UserName\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\SnapViews.lua

Maybe I have to do something somewhere else to have it create itself so I can then edit it?
