Anyone out there running a Warthog HOTAS system thru a USB 3.0 port without having to make any system tweeks, crashes, or other problems on Windows 8.1??

AFAIK, everyone that has tried, has had issues.

Hi buddy make sure to update the firmware in a usb2 port first on another PC!after you update it then just plug it to your usb3 without using any drivers for the warthog just plug and play!!!

I don't own a Warthog, but isn't USB-3 supposed to be backwards compatible with USB-2?

i use it on a usb3 1 year now without any problems

again you have to update the firmware first to a usb 2.0 first if you plan to use the devise into usb 3.0!!

Thanks for the correction. I did not recall that the problems were limited to the firmware update. Good to know as I am sure my next build will be shorter on USB 2.0 than what I have now.

Thanks

I think I resolved my situation. I was going to upgrade to an Alienware51 CPU but it only has USB 3.0 ports...a whole s*itload of them. But now I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go up to the Alienware Area 51 which also has 4 USB high speed 2.0 ports.

Thanks for you responses.

That has more to do with a USB chipset flaw than the actual devices. I had this issue on my AMD board and a USB Audio interface. It wasn't a problem on an Intel system i tried it on.

^My USB 3 Controller is not part of AMD's chipset. so it had nothing to do with them.

more along the lines of devices sensitive to memory mapping in the drivers, which is different for USB 3,

And the same devices did not work on a Intel PC either :)

I wasn't referencing the AMD chipset, but the USB 3.0 host controller that was in use on my AMD board. ASMedia I do believe.

I use a PCIe 3.0 Controller, by a reputable brand that uses high end components.

My Mainboards controller is a higher end Etron Controller.

harddrives, USB Sticks, USB3 devices all work fine (well one HDD refuses to work on USB3, but it's a older Ext. Drive)

possibly the extra driver layer when running BWC Mode with USB2 devices, but like I said, I have several USB2 devices that will not function correctly on USB3 Ports.

if the TM Warthog requires a Firmware update to be installed over USB2 prior to USB 3 usage, that's prolly the same reason.

I have to admit I have never done the firmware update. When I got my Warthog about 2 years ago, I simply plugged it in to the 3.0 USB ports (no other were available unless I put keyboard/mouse on 3.0 which would be a waste) and had no issues at all. The motherboard is Z77 from Gigabyte, running on Windows 7.

I've used mine on the ports of my Z77 MPOWER motherboard (http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z77_MPOWER.html#hero-overview) and plugged into a USB 3 hub plugged into one of the USB 3 ports and never had a problem. The only way in which I may be weird is I do not have TARGET installed. No crashes, no problems though. On Windows 8.1 64-bit.

I have the exact same motherboard. never had a problem with using my warthog on usb 3.0. not running TARGET. Windows 8.1 64-bit

I run mine via the screens USB3.0 hub and have no issue with the Hotas but some weird symptom.

If I leave the controllers plugged in, no keyboard will work during boot-time, regardless if USB or PS2, they work in Bios but straight after passing bios they stop working until windows login appears, then all is normal again.

So if I need F8 or such function, I have tzo disconnect the Warthog Hotas.

I can tolerate that issue.
