Corrigan Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Is the first quotation for me? If so, I can't see the relevance. What I'm talking about is that, when the engine decides that enough area of the sun is visible that it should overlay the .tga, you can see the faux 'disc' drawn into your .tga (the part highlighted in green a few posts ago), over the obstacle. Hopefully I've made myself clear enough here. I know that zoom is important -- the images aren't my argument per se, they're just illustrations. I've checked more than just the situation in the images. But absolutely, I'll send whatever you need. :) Both those images were taking from the same mission (attached). Never unpause, select external view, and angle the camera such that the sun is partially obstructed by cloud, but visible enough to get the .tga overlay. Corrigan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) I seem to have found another small issue. Watch this track, and see if you get any flickering in the lower part of the cockpit. It's important that you don't change camera angle so you see what I saw. It starts 10-15 s in. I've narrowed it down to your sky.fx -- without that I don't see the problem. I imagine it has something to do with the smaller disc. Can you see it too? If not, I'll post a video.flickering.trk Edited August 10, 2012 by Corrigan Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) good morning . No - there wasn't a question directed at you . It was just a quote of a answer I gave to Devrim . That should tell you that I have already changed the version two days ago and I'm working reworked already some things. read please again the whole post: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1526723#post1526723 In Short: It has been fixed already and I will upload a new version when I'm satisfied. BTW: please tell me your used resolution/aspect and AA setting you used while recorded this track. and the Sky.FX that is in my package is the stock one - so did you used Mustangs Sky.FX instead? Please attach a track and tell me on which resolution and/or aspect-ratio and time in track you have made this picture and I will have a look. Edit: Hold on. I load up a video what I see at 1600x900 MSAAx4 windowed (I used 1600x900 because your last screens you have posted are in this res.) I use in this vid just the unedited Realistic Sun 1.2.0. Corrigan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Good afternoon! I've read the entire thread. ;) It has been fixed already and I will upload a new version when I'm satisfied. Which issue is this -- what Devim is talking about or what we are? I did say my resolution (which uniquely determines my aspect ratio): it's 1680*1050. I have 4x AA, HDR to warm and windowed. The uploaded screens were just resized to 1600*900 by my image host. I can't see any flickering in that video! Interesting. This is what it looks like for me: WK97M0jf3uU Sorry about the quality. The flickering starts at 0:20 or so. Can you see what I mean? EDIT: Maybe you need to zoom out a bit (match the FOV in my video). Could you check the track again perhaps? PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) New version is up! ( and probably the final ) Realistic Sun 1.2.1 This version includes Mustang's Sky.FX changes and has a fine-tuned Rays.tga. It also includes the template I used to create the Rays.tga >>> Download http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1526362&postcount=41 Edited August 10, 2012 by PeterP
Mustang Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Yeah this looks about as perfect as going to get :)
Corrigan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 The new .tga looks great. ;) I still have the flickering though. Very apparent in this video (this is the new version) dD-Ivdd7Tak Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) I did run your flickering.trk now six times in a row with different AA settings and mirrors on/off @ 1680x1050 windowed. I wasn't able to produce it whatever I tried. Does it disappear when you change the FOV slightly? If yes: Go to your config/view/SnapViewsDefault.lua and change line 1060. Here is a explanation for the functions: Snap[11][13]["viewAngle"] = 84.0 -- default: 100.0 (FOV in degrees when entering cockpit first time) Snap[11][13]["x_trans"] = 0.27 -- default: 0.36 (Forward/Backward) Snap[11][13]["z_trans"] = 0 -- default: 0 (Left/Right) Snap[11][13]["rollAngle"] = 0 -- default: 0 (Roll Left/Right) Snap[11][13]["vAngle"] = -20 -- default: -23 (Tilt Up/Down) Snap[11][13]["y_trans"] = -0.02 -- default: -0.041336805555555564 (Up/Down) Snap[11][13]["hAngle"] = 0 -- default: 0 (Tilt Left/Right) Edited August 11, 2012 by PeterP
Corrigan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Thanks for the help. But you can see it in my videos, right? Just so you know what I'm talking about. I'll try some FOV tweaks. Although your suggestion will only change the default camera position, correct? Win10 x64 | SSDs | i5 2500K @ 4.4 GHz | 16 GB RAM | GTX 970 | TM Warthog HOTAS | Saitek pedals | TIR5
PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Yeah this looks about as perfect as going to get :) Yeah... like I told you in the PM. I hope I don't have to open these files again...:D and Please update your first post with the user-files section download.
PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) But you can see it in my videos, right? Just so you know what I'm talking about. I'll try some FOV tweaks. Although your suggestion will only change the default camera position, correct? Corrgian - Yes I see it - I'm not blind. Now we will do it the other way around. I will answer your question after I get a answer on this: Does it disappear when you change the FOV slightly? If yes:Because if it doesn't change I don't need to spend a sec to explain you what the changes make - BTW it takes about 1min to make the edit and start DCS to see what it does yourself . Edited August 10, 2012 by PeterP
Corrigan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Not when I just change it slightly, but it's not visible for all FOVs. It's visible for quite a large part of the FOV spectrum though. It doesn't seem to flicker if I pause it. I think it has to do with the camera's position relative to the sun changing. When paused, it'll flicker if I zoom. It's almost like the HDR can't make its mind up. Changing the HDR value as per your readme only changes the intensity of the flickering (along with all other HDR I suppose). Also, the colour temperature setting (warm/normal/cold) doesn't affect it. PeterP Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) @ Corrigan it must be some shader bug - caused by DCS or your drivers. Whatever it is : Please try to use different drivers for your card. And avoid Beta drivers by any means. My experience tells you that the both GPU vendors don't implement all legacy DX9 functions properly for DX9 because they often only focus on new 32bit games and on 64bit+DX9c isn't spend so much attention... ... So a even a one year old driver will serve you better in DCS as the newest - don't expect any DX9 support- optimization from NVidia/Ati these days. Edited August 10, 2012 by PeterP
Corrigan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I will try different drivers now. Did you see the issue on your system at all? Corrigan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 The left image (HDR off) looks normal to me. (Although I'm not sure, I always use HDR.) The right image is simply the sun with the rays.tga file missing. Double-check its presence in the Bazaar/Effects/PostMotionEffect/hdr folder. If you can't find it, simply re-download the mod and pull it from there. If it is there, there's something else wrong. Reinstalling the mod would probably be a good idea in that case anyway. Well - to put it straight: I'm very ,very patient - but please don't overstress it. *SORRY*Please look at the last three pages: You first told me that you can easily fix what's wrong with my mod.. and you are able to fix it in just a minute... and than you deleted this posting... (maybe that's the cause why I couldn't find a reference which exactly res you are using...) edit: It seems that my memory get more worse each day (years?).. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?...3&postcount=56 - thanks for helping me out ;)! whatever: Please look back at the last three pages....again... I give you one answer and you give me three new questions in return.. ...and two of them can be easily solved if you would have spend only one or two seconds more about thinking on this matter... Your Answers : 1) No- never! - if so - why I wouldn't tell before?!(and I saw a lot - but never what you have recorded) 2)I don't have to "emulate" you zoom-level . PeterP Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Thanks you(all)! Awesome work Peter.^^^^^^...and Mustang. Well - I did all the testing of different values and what effect they have... but without mustang I would still look at the wrong files.
PeterP Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 BTW someone PM'ed me this nice video how a sun cycle can look (for an individual) : I think this is a really good example how pluralistic opinions can be bound together without dividing them. ;) ...there is not always "one"answer... to get back on topic: Its not possible with the existence functions of DCS to please all. - so you have to do a file edit from time to time - so it fits your needs. -:)
