ED Team BIGNEWY Posted August 20, 2012 ED Team Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) I will take a look now Hijack ... result - I do see a flicker when you zoom slightly back from centre, but only briefly (1sec), the rest of the track is normal for me Edited August 20, 2012 by BIGNEWY Forum rules - DCS Crashing? HiJack Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Now, listen all. Please do not let the discussions we have had regarding the shaking problem when looking directly at the sun stop you from trying out this MOD. It is truly an awesome add-on to the DCS World environment. When you fly around looking for targets you seldom stair directly at the sun so it’s not that big an issue! Please do test it out and see whether you like it too. PeterP and Mustang does a great job in fixing up the eye candy and in my mind this is one of the best. This MOD is recommended! (HJ)
Mustang Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Heres a version of my own that i've grown to like, gives some variety of the versions to choose from :) Edited August 20, 2012 by Mustang
PeterP Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Edited post #40 Known bugs: There is a report about a bug that can happen when using this mod: please report with a track and your in-game settings/system specs. when you experience similar behaviours. and follow this link to see what others and I already tried to debug it: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1534361#post1534361 Here is a alternative version from Mustang: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1534710#post1534710 The main change is a bigger glow around the sun - maybe it helps to reduce the flickering when you experience it... - please copy Mustang's version over 'Realistic Sun 1.2.2' when you want to keep also the reduced water reflection. Mustangs version doesn't contains this. I loaded also a "sun flicker test" up to shade some light on this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1534979#post1534979 Please report back. Thank you! Edited August 21, 2012 by PeterP
HiJack Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Tried Mustangs #4 and also noticed the bigger glow, I like it to. No changes to the flickering, but as said its no big deal and most lightly some HD7970 issue. (HJ) Can't rep you guys more :(
PeterP Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) HiJack (and all that have the flickering), I want you to run some tests with the attached files. The Readme: Start with the contend of folder 2 - than use 3 and so on . Please copy the 'shaders' folder into DCS World\Bazar\ and run a track to see if the flickering is gone. Tell me which is the last working version without flickering. If even folder 2 doesn't brings a change - you don't need to run the other tests - and we will try something different. Edited August 21, 2012 by PeterP
HiJack Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 First look status. Result: Folder 2: Looks as it is not that powerful flickering on this one. Folder 3: A bit more flickering on this one than on the folder 2 test. It looks as if the flickering appears when zooming in one level. Folder 4: Low flickering on the fully zoom out, but some do appear when zooming in! Folder 5: Difficult to tell the difference on this one from folder 4 test. but the flickering appears when zooming in. Folder 6: More flickering on this one again I think. I would like to use this evening to do some more testing and actually do some missions with the changes applied. I will try to post a better status later tonight Peter. (HJ)
PeterP Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Ok - no need to do more test - the purpose was only to give me a rough direction what to do. Now I know which version makes it "acceptable" for you and I will turn some other vales to give you this night or tomorrow a new test. (remember: I cant see the flickering). I would like to see a video of "Su-25T SUN MOD Zoom shake- Warm.trk" with version 3 if you don't mind. :)
PeterP Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 (edited) Ok ! first: I'm still interested in a video of version three with "Su-25T SUN MOD Zoom shake- Warm.trk" exactly like you have done it before - so I have a comparison. when this is done I want you to run another test. Use for this first version 3 of " sun flicker test 1.zip" and than copy attached flies of "sun flicker test 2-2" over it. the readme: Start with Folder 2 - than use 3 and so on . Please copy the SkyQuad.fx into DCS World\Bazar\shaders\sky\ and run a track to see if the flickering is gone. Tell me which is the last working version without flickering.:) ...and when you have found a version that does not produce flickering : Please use version 4 of " sun flicker test 1.zip"and run this test again with the attached files - to see if a "higher" version gives you the same while the sun is smaller. Feel free to ask me again - I know that this can sound confusing. Edited August 22, 2012 by PeterP
HiJack Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I'll try Peter but it is not very easy to see the changes. I will make a video of the 3 folder first. (HJ)
HiJack Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Video of folder 3 test. Can't test more tonight, more tomorrow night. (HJ)
PeterP Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for the vid - when you next time load up a video - can you use a track that is a little more "dynamic" - means: More use of the full range of the FOV. I'll try Peter but it is not very easy to see the changes. I will make a video of the 3 folder first. (HJ) :doh:thats no surprise! :) I made a mistake with "sun flicker test 2" .... please try again with "2-2" :smilewink:
HiJack Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 I will make a new test during this night, thanks Peter! :)
HiJack Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 WOW! The flickering is gone just by using the folder 2 in the sun flicker test 2-2! :D Should I still do some testing on the other folders in the latest test?
PeterP Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) yes - do further tests if you want a smaller sun. the read me: Tell me which is the last working version without flickering.folder 2 of 2-2 must be a very big sun.. so please run all until the flicker appears. Than run folder 4 of "sun flicker test 1" and 2-2 again... I need last working combinations. (I wrote the instruction already down in post #214) further... To give you a idea what you are doing with the files I loaded up: You run exactly the same tests I suggested you to do in post #196 "C" - but instead editing it yourself I provided you with the edited files. Edited August 22, 2012 by PeterP
HiJack Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 OK. I will need some time to test all this but will first go for the shortcut of folder 1-4 and then test with folder 2-2 as the 2-2 folder gives no flickering. Is the sun in folder 1-4 the smallest? What about testing with your original release candidate 3? (HJ)
PeterP Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) HiJack . You are not doing it for me - you are doing it for yourself and all others that have also the flicker. Take your time. What about testing with your original release candidate 3?This makes no sense at all - we been there already. >>> #181 again - it goes like this: install "Sun flicker test 1 - folder 3" and and run the tests of "sun flicker test 2-2" and tell me winch is the last working version with test 2-2 in combination with folder 3 of test 1. Than you should use use version 4 of test 1 together with 2-2 and run all again to see which is the last that works. The purpose of this is that I know which exact combination values trigger the flickering - so I can create a alternative version that is good balanced and doesn't produce flickering for all that have this bug. Edited August 22, 2012 by PeterP
HiJack Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 OK, I'm going to do that testing Peter but that is going to take some time. In the mean time you can check this video (select HD 1080) of test folder 1-4 and test folder 2-2 on top over it. (HJ)
PeterP Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 (edited) this already looks very good! - no flicker any more at any FOV setting(right?) ! Seems you can stay with version 1-4 so please run a test series of all versions of 2-2 on top of it (:) no hurry -take your time). - so we can see how much we can reduce the size until it starts to flicker again. Than I would slightly re-edit the size of the Rays.tga to match this sun size and readjust the HDR power and I would add it as a "alternative" for all that can't use 1.2.2 because of the flicker. We are very close now! :) Edited August 22, 2012 by PeterP
71st_Mastiff Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 waiting on you last alternative testing, as I'm now getting that HDR sun flicker like in the videos. from the last version 1.2.2.. "any failure you meet, is never a defeat; merely a set up for a greater come back", W Forbes.
