War Status

After the 5-days war in Southern Ossetia, Russia, despite

the promise to retreat from the captured areas at Gori, kept

showing intentions for expansion towards the South, further

threatening the integrity of Georgian land.

Following the unsuccessful dioplomatic efforts for a

peaceful resolution of the issue, the Georgian leadership, with the

contribution of USA, decided the immediate initiation of war

operations. The purpose of those operation was the repulse of the

Russian forces from Gori and the regaining of the ground of

Southern Osseria through a massive counter-attack.

OperationChameleon.png

Phase 1

Georgian forces have concentrated south of Gori and north of

Kaspi aiming to the creation of two fronts. It is believed that the

Russian forces are in position to repel the attack and move on to a

counter-attack. For this careful movements are necessary from the

Georgian side.

MISSION 1 DEBRIEFING

ACMI: http://www.foinikas.org/ftp/public/DCS_World/Chameleon%20Campaign/Mission%201/Chameleon%20ACMI%202nd%20HOST.txt.acmi

Despite the initial indications that Russia is capable to face a surprising attack, Georgia took the risk with the support of the USA.

The attack begun at 06:15 with cannon shots from the Georgian artillery at GORI and north of KASPI in combination with air raids. The objective of the first assaults was the bombardment of strategic installations at South Ossetia, aiming to debacle the Russian defense line.

On the same time the Georgian ground forces attempted to attack Gori from northeast as well supported by KA-50 helicopters.

Against the Georgian expectations on the advancement of the battle, the Russians have launched interception and support aircraft within very short time, with a simultaneous reinforcement of the two fronts with ground forces.

Soon after the first successful missions of the Russian air force the situation at the fronts was changed and Russia was found in an offensive position.

Numerous allied aircraft were shot down, others on their way to home plate, having accomplished their missions and others on their way to the targets.

The Russian tanks seem to be winning the battle at Gori. At this moment of the battle the allied air force played and essential role, performing a well organized counter attack. The allies managed to capture Gori with the assistance of close air support (CAS) missions after 2-hour combats.

Russia might have temporarily lost Gori, but succeeded its primary objective, which was the interception of the Georgian attack until the Russian war machine, including the air force, is fully deployed.

The allied forces have hit: ammo dumps, command centers, power production units, inactive SA-10 batteries etc. However the allies suffered enormous tank losses, the majority of which were destroyed during the Russian count attack at Gori before the final capture of the town by the Georgians.

Unofficial battle report (by witnesses and announcements:

06:15 Cannon shots from the Georgian artillery at Gori

06:30 The first dogfight between a Russian SU-25T and an American A-10 that was finally shot down

06:35 The first destruction of a Russian tank as a result of a KA-50 attack

06:45 Destruction of a Russian Ammo dump by a GBU-10 laser bomb

06:45 Russian helicopters attacked Gori

06:46 SEAD operation by Russian SU-25T taking down 4 TOR-M1

06:47 Loss of the first Russian SU-25T in air combat

06:55 Destruction of an inactive SA-10 battery by a GBU-10 laser bomb

07:02 Destruction of a second inactive SA-10 battery by a GBU-12 laser bomb

07:03 A Georgian KA-50 was shot down by enemy fire

07:05 3 American A-10 were shot down by enemy fire

07:20 3 more American A-10 shot down

07:35 One Russian Ka-50 was shot down

War status

Russia might have temporarily lost Gori, but succeeded its

primary objective, which was the interception of the Georgian

attack until the Russian war machine, including the air force, is

fully deployed.

It is obvious that the Russians are ready for the big counter

attack, using fighter aircraft that have landed at the nearby

airbases.

ACMI : http://www.foinikas.org/ftp/public/DCS_World/Chameleon%20Campaign/Mission_2/Chameleon%20mission%202%20ACMI.rar

Debriefing

The destruction of the Russian power plants and Command Centers during the first day of the war from the allied aircraft had more significant impact than initially expected.

During the second day there were flaws in the organization and communications of the Russian army and thus the Russian battalions had to fight as autonomous units. In addition to that, the lack of air warning radars caused the absence of the tactical picture for the Russian fighters.

In the opposite side, the allies were not in a better shape. Their ground forces had suffered great losses and now their primary objective was the preservation of the areas captured during the first day.

Given the situation, the battles begun around the area of Gori with additional heavy losses for the allies, but without any loss of territory, due to the inability of the Russians to perform massive attacks.

Attack helicopters from both sides have been hammering the enemy tanks with increased levels of success.

The allied helicopters attempted once again to strengthen the friendly convoy in a cleanup mission at the east side of the front, without success since numerous friendly tanks were destroyed during the operations.

The allied A-10s performed attacks to the air defense systems of the enemy and supported the ground attacks after their strike missions.

In the aerial battle, Russian SU-27s and American F-15s tried to gain air superiority for each side. There were losses from both sides, but the Russians managed to cause significant damage to the allied bombers and helicopters.

MISSION 3 BRIEFING

Briefing Blue side : http://www.foinikas.org/ftp/public/DCS_World/Chameleon%20Campaign/Mission%203/Operation%20Chameleon%202012%20MIS%203%20Blue%20side.pdf

Briefing Red Side : http://www.foinikas.org/ftp/public/DCS_World/Chameleon%20Campaign/Mission%203/Operation%20Chameleon%202012%20MIS%203red%20side.pdf

War status

The battle ended after 2 hours, with Gori remaining under the occupation of the Georgian forces, which however were left with very few forces defending the town. There are reports for agonizing efforts of the allies to enforce their units in the area by transferring more troops there.

The Russians on the other side are working hard to solve their own problems and launch a massive attack towards the South as soon as they possibly can.

Ok guys the server will be up today and tomorrow for testing. Feel free to join.

There is a briefing inside the mission but a pdf file with info and briefing for the campaign will be ready soon.

@Aries

Yes you can change positions if there will be free slots .I will post the rules later.

For the CA users there wont be any limitation of rejoining in units etc

For the pilots there wont be any limitation of the respawn times but we will ask you if you crash to rejoin again after ~15 minutes so that we keep a balance in the server.

Please keep in mind that although we have a lot of experience organising events for Falcon BMS ,that's our first steps in DCS: World. So if you have any suggestions after the tests or any propositions we would be glad to hear them.

Also remember to join our group http://forums.eagle.ru/group.php?groupid=89 to get Teamspeak info and briefing .

Have fun

Couple of things I noticed .

(1) When joining the game , on ramp , aircraft starts with systems on but winding down ..... best thing is to shut it down completely , change all switchs to off position and restart .

(2) When flying Pig 1.1 ..... atc telling me to hold position in flight !!!

(3) Someone spawned onto Pig 1.1 .

Nice mission though :)

Thanks

i would also limit the weapons (warehouse submenu) and remove all CBUs for A-10Cs and Su-25T - it give you still very bad FPS on impact.

Also set the airfield on BLUE or it we will not able to repair, refuel and rearm on it!

CBU-87/103 are far worse on frames than the 97/105. But then that brings into the issue that FAR more 87/103s are in the inventory and have been used in combat than the 97/103s. So what do you want? Realism or framerates?

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.
