Levinsky Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Looking good Pete - time to take it flying and cause some virtual mayhem :)
bnepethomas Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 No piccies this update - but thought I'd share the spreadsheet I've used for switch layouts using the Brydling card, found it very useful for planning and testing. Also here is a utility I developed for testing switches with the Brydling card. I couldn't easily find a utility for visualizing 128 Joystick Buttons, so threw something together using c# and slimdx (yes it is bodgy, has no error checking, my coding lecturers would be failing me if they saw it... etc etc ;)). Source code and exe on google-code here: https://code.google.com/p/bne-joystick-tester/source/browse/ What makes it a little different from most is I use text-to-speech, that announces whenever a button is pressed. When you are head down checking buttons, this becomes a very good thing. cheers PeterBrydling_a10_as_built.zip
bnepethomas Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Some piccies, hopefully electrical work completed, now to merge scrips and program switches, getting close to finishing this one, shots include normal operation along with fire and general indicators tests, there is light at the end of the tunnel!:
Jimbo Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 wow! amazing work! I notice you removed the Simmeters RWR, I haven't even plugged mine in yet so don't know how well they work. Any reason you swapped your back out and should I bother with mine?
bnepethomas Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 wow! amazing work! I notice you removed the Simmeters RWR, I haven't even plugged mine in yet so don't know how well they work. Any reason you swapped your back out and should I bother with mine? Thanks - unfortunately there's been some challenges on the RWR side of the house, haven't given up hope, but given I really wanted this thing flyable before the end of this month decided to throw the old lcd in there. Planning to light up the rest of the simmeters this week. cheers Peter
Duckling Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Impressive work Pete. looking forward to a vid of it in full action cheers Gus - - - -
bnepethomas Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 thanks Gus Lit up the Simmeters gauges this evening, needed a second USB controller in the PC as I'd exceeded the maximum number of devices on the Intel USB 3.0 controller. Close-up of the VHF radio ILS/TACAN/CDU Next to do is grab Overpro's OCR code and modify it to drive the OLEDs cheers Peter
Deadman Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Looks Great Peter:thumbup: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Cali Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Nice job! i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
bnepethomas Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Getting some flight time in the machine, as well as moved to Crivi's export program (which rocks!, http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=120945). Also rearranged CMSC to put Chaff and Flare on separate lines as I only have a 16*2 oled display
Mr_Burns Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 That is such a tidy looking job, awesome work sir.
bnepethomas Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 Well finished the Jet Ranger, so back to the A10, been doing some gauge building:
Deadman Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 It looks great Pete I dropped you a PM let me know what you think DM https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Warhog Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 I'm just starting my Fuel Gauge as well. It looks like you're using the VID series of steppers motors. What are you using to drive them? I picked up 10 of the VID-29 series for some of the analog gauges but I think I will use servos for the fuel gauge. I have the angle of attack and flaps gauge set up with servos and they work quite well so far. I am looking forward to trying out the steppers though. Any plans for a digital display in the fuel gauge? I am looking at a 128x32 OLED as it needs to be 1.25 x .4" to clear the engraving for the backlighting to work. The EMI panel... what does Windows see those gauges as? Is it one USB per gauge or one USB for the entire unit. Your HSI looks very interesting. I am getting close to that time where I will need to figure out what to do about the HSI and ADI. I'm not going to scratch build them. The standard analog gauges in the A10 are as much of a challenge as I can handle. Are you happy with the performance of the HSI/ADI in your pit? Your pit is looking really smart. Very professional I must say. Looking forward to a complete demo once its fully up and running. Regards John W aka WarHog. My Cockpit Build Pictures... Ultimately I plan to add the OLED display (similar to yours) but for the immediate future I'll use a separate OLED as I have a 737 to finish once I've finished the radios and the fuel panel. With the HSI and ADI, along with the engine gauges are driven by Simmeters which is very nice, only thing is the site has been very quiet which is a little sad, as their gear is pretty good. I had used servos in another pit, they do the job but are a little noisy, and not quiet as smooth as you can get with steppers. Cheers Peter Edited November 16, 2014 by bnepethomas
bnepethomas Posted November 16, 2014 Author Posted November 16, 2014 And a little more detail, heres a link to the dual stepper I'm using http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Glorification-original-vid28-05-instrument-motor-jac-yuet-with-micro-stepper-motor/1046577_1522796250.html One thing I did have to do was wind the delay out when working with the dual, something I didn't encounter with singles. bnepethomas Posted November 17, 2014 Author Posted November 17, 2014 Thanks gents, the great thing about these forums is there are many ideas being shared, I've learned a bunch from your projects from all corners of the globe. cheers Peter
bnepethomas Posted November 22, 2014 Author Posted November 22, 2014 Progress on the fuel panel, decided if its worth doing its worth doing right, so have included the backlighting and totaliser (using OLEDs). Here's the pieces that make up a gauge Missing up couple of holes for oled mount... so back to the laser for a new bracket.
bnepethomas Posted December 20, 2014 Author Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) Finally had some time to get the entire panel working, its a little tight behind the scene, but it all disappears once the panel is mounted. :) Its a little interesting how the totaliser is exported, each digit is exported as a decimal value to reflect it is rolling over. Found a nice little LUA format command to tidy it up as part of the print statement, just have the occasional addition 0 I need to get to the bottom of. Next the G-Force gauge. And has anyone know where I could find the dimensions of the front canopy support? - ahh should have guessed its was in Deadman's thread 30.5 inches tall and 80 degrees back, thanks for sharing that Ky http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1905419&highlight=canopy#post1905419 cheers Peter Edited December 20, 2014 by bnepethomas
Deadman Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Hi Peter Looks great as all ways!!!
