In addition to E-2 and E-3 aircraft, there are a number of surface based radars that are used for AIC (Air Intercept Control) functions. These include the AN/SPS-48, a shipboard, 3-dimensional radar, the AN/SPS-43, a shorter ranged system found on carriers which provide ASR and carrier controller approach functions as well as doubling as an AIC asset, and the AN/SPS-49, a two-dimensional search radar that provides range and bearing information to airborne contacts. The AN/SPS-49 is a complement to the SPS-48 system. I would love if we could use the Super Carrier to have the intercept control capabilities so that I don't need to put blue units EWR 1L13, EWR 55G6, E2 or E3 assets. It seems somewhat not that complex to achieve, or maybe I am wrong, still... ...a wish on a Super Carrier wish list.

DCS has a big community and choosing a place to settle down can be hard. There are a lot of groups out there and all of them have a different culture and fly differently. As you are reading this ask yourself what you want out of a DCS group. VFA-211 is a DCS Strike Fighter Squadron that is dedicated to getting as close as possible to real-world Naval aviation operations. VFA-211 is committed to training its members to be the best of the best. VFA-211 offers a unique experience in that we capture the culture around Naval Squadrons. We’re a tight-knit group of like-minded people who act like a family building each other up. We are devoted to making an authentic and realistic experience. We are often classified as a military simulation (mil-sim), but what does that exactly mean? Well, our definition of mil-sim is that we strive to get as close as we can to real-world operations within the limits of DCS. VFA-211’s members have a lot of experience in a wide range of tactics and procedures. Our members are devoted to helping one another accomplish the goal of creating a realistic experience within DCS. Mil sim does not mean you have to greet people and say sir, but we do have a chain of command and ranks to identify members and their respective contributing roles. VFA-211 is looking for people to be ATC/AIC(Commonly referred to as GCI in the DCS community)/CATCC Controllers, etc. The Role entails going through our controller training course, no experience is required, and controlling at VFA-211 events that happen bi-weekly on Saturdays at 2030 EST and Every Tuesday at 2030 EST. VAW-126 (our controller squadron) has 3 slots open for Controller. Please note we will train you on all aspects of controlling and the controller can not fly in VFA-211. VFA-211 is also looking for 2 mission planners. The role entails going to the VFA-211 Staff meeting that happens on Monday at 2030 EST and the mission planning sessions bi-weekly on Saturdays at 2030 EST on off weeks. The missions have to be made per VFA-211 SOPs and TTPs that will be taught to you. Note VFA-211 Mission planners can fly for VFA-211 but it’s not required. VFA-211’s motto is “Work hard, play hard”. We feel that if you put in the effort that’s what you’ll get out of it. So is VFA-211 a good fit for you? What do you want out of a DCS group? Here are more questions that you can ask yourself. Do I enjoy Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and reading/ abiding by them? Am I experienced enough in Controlling or mission planning? Do I enjoy working as a team and learning in a professional and realistic manner? Can I receive criticism in debriefs whether I fail or succeed in a given mission? Can I become part of a group that flies in the Eastern Standard Time zone on Tuesdays and Bi-weekly Saturdays at 2030 EST? Do I enjoy helping out the squadron outside of missions? If you said yes to all of the above, VFA-211 may be a good option for you. If you have made it to the end of this, congratulations! We look forward to having you on our team. FLY NAVY!!
