I figured that the propeller not turning was part of the reason it was flying sideways. :P

More than likely the animations werent complete at the point of those shots being taken.

yeah thats what im assuming...but where there actually K versions with a non-retractable tailwheel?a short search brought me to wikipedia where its stated that all Ks had a retractable tailwheel, but its wikipedia, so i dont really trust it....just wondering if there were Ks with non-retractable tailwheels, and thats what they model...

well if the 109 manages to fly at all without propeller, im curious how that beast will behave with a working one :)

The K's were supposed to have retractible tail wheels, but at the time of the war, and with short supplies a lot of them were fitted with the G variant tail wheel, so I dont know if they are modelling that or if its just part of the WIP and not animated yet.

If I had my preference, I would go with the retractable wheel as well, but it is also dependant on documentation and such, they have to have drawings and such to know how the wheel worked and such... but that would be up to Ilya or some one else from RRG to answer.

Haha it's funny you asked this question, David. I had the same thoughts when I saw it when the thread started and did some research myself. I eventually just wrote it off as a WIP and moved on. There is no way this community would let a detail like that slip by without some lively discussion :)

For what it's worth, this is what I know about the tail wheels of the 109's:

Using retractable tail wheels started with 109G-1 and G-2. The G-3 and G-4 required a larger diameter wheel because of overall weight issues and that made retracting impossible. Rebuilding the airframe to make it fit was out of the question since the Luftwaffe needed all planes they could lay their hands on fast. The later G-5 and G-6 had fixed tail wheels. Starting with the G-10 the planes got an extended tail yoke to make visibility on the ground better. This yoke was non-retractable.

As far as I know, the first plane to enter service with all tail wheel issues resolved was the K-4 which had a retractable extended tail yoke.

I have also read about retractable wheels/yokes being locked in down position because of technical problems. Haven't seen this confirmed by pilots or similar though...
