Latorimo Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Hi there, I have purchased the UH-1 Huey and I love to fly that bird pretty much. It`s always a joy. Before I bought the H. I installed DCS W. 1.2.7 - after the new update was announced I tried to load it down with the DCS updater - but for a week or so nothing happens. :.( I execute "update DCS" - then it runs for some seconds and the disapears. Maybe I do something wrong? With the new update the Huey is capable to do slingloads - I want ot do that!:joystick: :) ...please help..!:helpsmilie:
Corvus Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 1.2.8 version is not final and was released as a open beta. Open beta works as a separate install (you can get it from dcs website) My YT channel https://www.youtube.com/user/corvuscorp81

ED Team c0ff Posted May 1, 2014 ED Team Posted May 1, 2014 I did try the repair and it crashed with the error: "404 not found" This is not what we call "crashed", but anyway, When I look at the log file it shows me the following: ... Maulkin Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 This is not what we call "crashed", but anyway, I run the repair and get a screen pop up with a big red 'X'. Did you need a blue screen of death? Would you prefer I just said I get an error message and then it closed? Does it really matter? That's why. Great! I am really glad I included the log so that it would help diagnose this issue and so others might be able to reference this in the future. You did run "dcs_updater.exe update MI-8MTV2" sometime ago. It does not what you think it will. To fix, run "dcs_updater.exe update release", and better use standard Start menu items next time. I dont recall ever specifically updating the Mi-8 module but if I did it was at the intruction of your support team so long ago that I dont remember. I have only ever been using the standard Start menu items and I just modified the standard Start menu item as per your recommendation above so it looks like this "D:\Games\DCS World 1.2.0\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update release and that looks like it is working. Thank you. Although now my Start menu item is no longer the standard....should I put it back? (ie remove the 'release' part) With that being said I want to say thank you for the help. But I could have really done without the condescending attitude that went with it. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
crazyeddie Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 For Win 7 Start Menu>All Programs>Eagle Dynamics>DCS World>Update DCS World I have been asking this question on another thread with no response from ED. Perhaps you can help. In my Start Menu/All Programs/ED/DCS World all I have are 2 Document files, one for DCS World and another for LFC2, NO Repair button, NO Update button. NOTHING ELSE. How do I fix that.
cichlidfan Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) I have been asking this question on another thread with no response from ED. Perhaps you can help. In my Start Menu/All Programs/ED/DCS World all I have are 2 Document files, one for DCS World and another for LFC2, NO Repair button, NO Update button. NOTHING ELSE. How do I fix that. I have to assume those links get created during an initial install and probably would not get fixed by a repair. If that is the case then it would follow that a reinstall should fix the problem. This is just a guess, since I have never experienced this problem. If this does not help, then I would open a support ticket here so that someone from ED can assist you. Btw, ED staffers do post here but the forum is primarily a user-to-user support area. EDIT: Of course, those links can be manually created with the correct information but that doesn't solve the initial issue. sobek Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 How do I fix that. Try the following: Press Start, on the bottom type cmd, choose cmd.exe from the list that appears. Now type "cd pathtoyourbinfolder" without the " where pathtoyourbinfolder is the path to the DCS bin folder. In my case i would type cd c:\games\DCS World\bin. Then press enter. Then type "dcs_updater.exe repair" again without the " and press enter. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
crazyeddie Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Thanks sobek, tried that, all I get in response is The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax in incorrect I have two hard drives and I'm certain I have given it the correct path ?
sobek Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Please make a screenshot of what you typed out. I suppose you did leave out the " like i told you to? Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Maulkin Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 (edited) You could create the shortcut manually by navigating (using File Explorer) to where the DCS_updater.exe is, right-click on it and 'copy, then go to your desktop and right-click anywhere and select 'paste shortcut' You then would have to right-click on the shortcut you just made and edit the 'Target' field to look something like this: "C:\Games\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update But your path might be different so keep that in mind.. That covers the shortcut to the updater....now for repair you would do the exact same thing but this time the 'Target field will look something like this: "C:\Games\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" repair Edited May 2, 2014 by Maulkin --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
crazyeddie Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I did it exactly as you suggested Sobek, thanks, but it did not recognise the path, and I cannot understand why. I have used that kind of fix before for other things, but this one does not work on my rig for some reason that confounds me. Maulkin. Within the bin file in DCS World there is an .exe for the updater, and I could do it that way, but there is NO 'repair' files in that bin, so it would only solve half the problem. I did try a re-instal of World a while back, twice, but got the same problem both times. However, I have logged it on a ED Ticket so perhaps I can get a fix that way.
sobek Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) The error message you typed out points to a syntax error, so there must have been a spelling mistake. Please try again, if it doesn't work, make a screenshot so we can take a look and tell you what's wrong. Also, there is no separate exe for repair. Repair is an argument for dcs_updater.exe that tells it to repair the install instead of updating it. Edited May 3, 2014 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa!
