9.JG27 DavidRed Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 hey guys, i just noticed, that it seems to be impossible to retract the landing gear while beeing on ground....is this a bug?
Sceptre Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 why would you even try that :P RTX 2070 8GB | 32GB DDR4 2666 RAM | AMD Ryzen 5 3600 4.2Ghz | Asrock X570 | CH Fighterstick/Pro Throttle | TM MFDs | TrackIR 5
9.JG27 DavidRed Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 (edited) Make sure to try this while the engine is running that was it,..stupid me, i forgot to start the engine... why would you even try that well, im setting up a new controls profile for the last few days, as ED decided to make my former profile unusable...so when i tested, whether my lua adjustments were working or not, i tested the landing gear...i noticed that my entries dont seem to work, so i hit th g keystroke and noticed that this is also not working...well no wonder when the engine isnt running :) Edited May 9, 2014 by 9./JG27 DavidRed

VH-Rock Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 When myself, Pman and Ells got into the cockpit of the Mustangs at Duxford last year, we were told pretty strongly to stay away from the gear handle. Stevo (pilot) told us that the main gear will not retract on the ground, but the tail gear would. Still enough to cause significant damage. Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... You should have tried it, someone is wrong and it's either ED or mr Stevo.

Echo38 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 someone is wrong and it's either ED or mr Stevo. Or perhaps the Fighter Collection has modified their P-51 to add this safety feature. I believe it was the P-38 which had a gear lock which could be overridden; it was pretty difficult to accidentally raise it on the ground, but in the event of an aborted takeoff, the pilot could still raise the gear under load (to increase friction, so as not to hit obstacles beyond the end of the runway) by depressing a safety button on the gear lever. I wouldn't be surprised if surviving P-51s have been modified to use a system like this.
sobek Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 You should have tried it, someone is wrong and it's either ED or mr Stevo. I'm guessing that when the engine is not running and the plane is standing still that the main gear won't fold in because its plane of motion is orthogonal to the wheels tracking plane. That is different for the tail wheel as it retracts along its tracking plane. So there possibly is an oversight in modelling tailwheel retraction under the planes own weight while the motor is not running, but that's a minor flaw really. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
