JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Anyone tried Lock On Flaming Cliffs on Windows Vista Beta already? Does it run? How fast compared to Win XP? What Vista Beta version are you using? What problems might occur? Pilotasso Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I wont upgrade to VISTA unless I absolutely need to do it for compatibility reasons. Thats because I cant format all the time due to volume of data I must backup, and upgrading to a new OS without the absolute need also brings unique problems otherwise you wouldnt have. Let it come, I wont touch it probably before I get a new PC within the next 1-2 years. .
33 279.KIAP_shark Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I wont upgrade to VISTA unless I absolutely need to do it for compatibility reasons. I agree to you absolutely. Another point to mention is, that there might be a lot of problems with drivers and application at the first time of an new os. After one year that might have changed. We will see. CU Shark

The new one will run Vista. Has anybody tried FC on Vista yet? ALDEGA Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Driver support and compatibility with Windows Vista should be good, especially the 32-bit version. Build 5270 is already quite good, but still far from a first Release Candidate. You needn't worry. As always, if you want the benefits of the new OS version, but aren't ready to ditch the old, install the new OS on another partition or disk (cheap solution).
DayGlow Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I dived right into XP no problem so I don't fear an OS change, but then again, that's coming from Windows Me  "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Pilotasso Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 [...] that's coming from Windows Me  ...The worlds crapiest OS ever to disgrace my machines. I had on 2 occasions been persuated to use that OS by my friennds on 2 of my PC's over the years "Its so sleek looking and smoooth" but it choked, coffed and barfed its entrails all over my brand new machines. Rampant DLL errors and driver issues and other informatic pestilences plagged my PC's. On the first time I went back to plain 98 and tha last time (this PC) I was forced to upgrade to XP (after realizing it was so much more stable than 98). .

ALDEGA Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Update: Lockon 1.12 does not work in Windows Vista build 5270. Reason: Starforce driver causes a BSOD (which is rather rare in Vista) For now, I'll have to stick to the builtin 3D chess game ;) Funny note, when Starforce was instaling its hidden drivers, "Windows Defender" explicitely told me about it (three driver names).
504MrWolf Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 try build 5308 ? www.VVS504.co.uk www.lockonskins.co.uk
ALDEGA Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 When it's available through Technet Plus ;) The error is most likely due to changes in Windows' kernel or driver model. It's going to require a StarForce update.
DayGlow Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Starforce will need a Vista Driver. "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Starlight Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Starforce will need a Vista Driver. Or maybe we need a starforceless game :D

warthogmadman987 Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 that will only happen in pirate-less world. To my knowledge there are other copyright protection programs out there besides starforce, and some while working ok dont have as many issues.(some poeple have problems others dont, my dads computer does have cd drive problems with starforce.) Does anyone know of any options besides starforce? Is ED concerned about this and looking for someone else? (i would bet not considering they are both russian companies) ps- i 3rd the starforceless game!
S77th-Python Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 I did try it several months ago and it ran fine, don't remember the beta/LO version though. However, X45 profile builder graphical app was not supported and crashed every time. Had to assign all buttons through the game Input settings:rolleyes: Good impression though, would have been even better if you had 2 Gigs of memory. 1

S77th-Python Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 No problems as far as I remember, added by the new visual effects (unrelated to LO) introduced in the Vista. Overall, good impression. 1

Hey man, read what the "freak'n dork" man does with his monopoly...: http://www.gatesfoundation.org/default.htm Edit: To see how what kind of person Bill Gates is, check out his foundation which only last year founded hundreds of projects to save millions of people at a cost of $5 billion dollars. As for bugs, there are approximately 15,000 software quality assurance people working at Microsoft at the moment. Every bug in Windows and every other product is tracked in their bug database and regressed on every new release. As software is written by human beings, it has and always will have small malfunctions. A lot of people seem to like Microsoft products as is testified by the 5 million consoles of Xbox 360 that were sold in just a few months. For those who don’t, there’s plenty of choice out there. Mac OS X and Linux being just a few examples. Robbie.
hitman Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 That "freakin' dork" spends 1/1000th (if that) of his wealth on that program. His estimate is currently worth more than 46.5 billion dollars. I think he can be a little bit more generous than a few mil. to give you an estimate on how much money that is, the US national debt is at $8,269,885,515,386.04 as of feb. 28th. Thats 1/178th of what the US owes.
