Rhinozherous Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Hey Pilots! I'm new to this great Simulation (comming with some "civil" flight knowledge from X-Plane). Now I learn for the awesome Hog and would like to know if there is a way to adjust the cockpit camera in a better position? I use the mouse for view at this time. The view on the forward panel and the forward parts of the sidepanels are ok but when I want to look at the rear parts of the sidepanels all switches are "upside down" and some of the switches are hidden behind other instruments. It seems that the default Virtual Pilot position is a little bit too much forward. At this time I have tried some things with Snap view (unfortunately it is useless in this situation because I cant move the camera and fix it for manipulating switches and so on, it SNAPS back) I also have tried (the past 5 hours) to set Facetracknoir properly... but this Headtrack is way too nervous and "zooming in" to see switches better does not work for me. Is TRACKIR really a better thing? How do you do it? Sorry for my pronunciation, english is not my native language :) Thank you, and Greetings! Wizard1393 Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 TrackIR is a MUCH better solution. More stable, less demanding on your system and more precision. At least this is true if you are NOT using some home made IR device with the FreeTrack protocol in FaceTrackNoIr. I started out with FaceTrackNoIR also, with a regular webcam to track my face, and dude, there difference is huge going to TrackIR. No lag / sluggishness and lots of precision. baltic_dragon Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 You can't even compare flying with and without the TrackIR. It just makes it all feel more natural. I've flown for a few months using my mouse and then pov on joystick to turn around, and then I invested in TIR - couldn't spend this money better. For more information, please visit my website. Rhinozherous Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 Thank you guys for answers! I think I will buy a Trackir when the money is there, the majority of people with trackir is lucky with it I think. Another question is the joystick... at this time I use the cheaper Thrustmaster Hotas X, but it have not so much buttons, now I will try it with a simple logitech gamepad as a "multiswitch panel". What do you think, how many buttons (outside of keyboard) do I need to do the most important things in the Hog? Maverick-X Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I flew a quite long time without any headtracker. To view switches and so on i used my POV-hat and zoom. Works good and is a working solution... but since i have a headtracker I don't wanna miss it. Once you set it up properly and got used to it, it is one of the best pieces of hardware you ever got for your simming experience
thrawn Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 if you're handy with a soldering iron you can make a point model with some IR LEDs to use with FacetrackNOIR. I find this methoid works well but I cannot speak to how it compares to the TrackIR
Maverick-X Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 thrawn did you mean freetrack? I thought facetrackNoIR's purpose is to be used without any additional headgear? Freetrack is in theory the same as trackIR: You build a Cap or a Clip with (ideally) 3 LED's and set up a camera (modified webcam or IRcam) to recognize those IR LED's. The image of the cam is then processed by the free (obvious? ^^) freetrack software. Difference to TrackIR: +price -needed cpu-power -modification of the webcam not easy depending on the model -configuration could be a bit tricky But the price impact is kind off huge: you can do it for about 25-40€ instead of up to 200€ (if you buy brand new + active clip)
Rhinozherous Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 I have ordered a Trackir 4 now, it is not that expensive as TI5, but I think 119€ are still much money... hope it will work :) i7-14700KF 5.6GHz Water Cooled /// ZOTAC RTX 4070 TI Super 16GB /// 32GB RAM DDR5 /// Win11 /// SSDs only DCS - XP12 - MSFS2020
