Two groups of planes. Fly and meet. Group leaders begin talking. :argue:

- The leader of the first group says: "Give us one of your aircraft and we will have the same number of aircraft as you!"

- The leader of the second group response: "No! Give us one of your planes and we will be numerically twice stronger!"

How many planes have each group??? :unsure:

Are you so bored man...

The answer is 5:7.

You can either solve it by setting up a group of equations, or by observing that the total number of planes is of the form 2*3*x, with 3x - 2x=2. So on and so forth...

y-1 = x+1

y+1 = 2(x-1)

It´s a fairly easy math excercise, but this thread still makes more sense for passing the time until release of the next modules than most other ways to be encountered on this forum...

Nice excercise for logical and analytic thinking :thumbup:

If x is 1st group count and y is 2nd group count, then

x+1=y-1 -> x=y-2

y+1=2(x-1) -> y=2x-3

-----------------------------

y=2(y-2)-3 -> y=7

x=7-2=5

Am I genius? :D

I have another interesting question:

How fast would a 6.0 m-long sports car have to be going past you in order for it to appear only 5.5 m long? :smartass:

im not sure if i understand your question

but if you ask how fast

then it's easy

6/5.5 = 1.090909...

so it needs to be 9.09 % faster

I think he is asking a question of special relativity (length contration along direction of motion)... If you know the formula, it's very simple mathematics. :smartass:
