Okay great to know, can we know more about this please this should be in Silver-Dragons Road Map Thread ....... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=116893

Errr.... LotATC Have in my unofficial roadmap some time ago..... :D

*Programs:

+DArt

-- LotATC 4 (Beta 0.9.2)

I expected see similar to them on DCS: W in the future.... (on "Civilian" servers in the future), not bad see the "bigs" of civilian addons into them.

Have you heard of LotAtc for DCS?

Hi Silver-Dragon n Sobek,

Sorry, I must have missed that on your extensive list. Most of the time I'm looking for Modern Air Craft and Theaters/MAPS of interest to me in that List.

Although I would love to know more about "LotATC" any current information would suffice for community reading. The link does not provide much or struggling to put all this info together with next major Update 2.0.0 EDGE. How is all going to work, new features and that?

Thank you for the effort in keeping that list btw.

Cheers,

Hi Folks,

I was talking to a friend last night who put in to perspective what VATSIM is really all about.

I mistakenly thought that it was an organisation of online ATC'ers.

Once a few things had been made clear to me it quickly became apparent that DCS world isn't going to be hooking up with FSX any time soon.

I'm now left wondering if someone was trying to do me a favour and give me a hint by moving this tread to chit-chat?

Interesting to hear about LotATC though.

Maybe that is going to be the way forward for us?

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to go online and have an ATC server where there are Terminal control areas around the airfields......still a bit of a pipe dream for the moment I think.

Hey look..is that a Mig 21 I see coming........

I would personally love an official DCS: Control Tower module with high fidelity simulated ATC activities, multiplayer integration, and 6DOF... "cockpit".

Maybe the idea isn't dead yet!

This what I posted over at VATSIM this morning:-

'Hi Folks,

I was taking to a friend last night who has helped to put in to perspective what VATSIM really is about.

I mistaking thought that it is an online organisation of ATC'ers.

Once I had things explained to me it became very apparent that DCS World isn't going to be hooking-up with FSX any time soon.

I hope my ignorance hasn't offended too many people.

As for those who have tried to provide some intelligent and constructive feed back, many thanks, much appreciated and good luck for the future.'

This is the two responses I got:-

'You don't necessarily have to hook up DCS World with FSX, just develop a client that acts as the interface between DCS World Simulators and the VATSIM network and its protocols. FSX, X-Plane and all others simulators that can be connected are just the platforms where you fly, VATSIM and its clients are another layer on top of that.

If the pilots of DCS World are interested to experience ATC on their flights, rally some coders and get working on a client.'

'Graham, there is no offence. Given that DCS produces v.LatLongAlt.x, v.LatLongAlt.Long, v.LatLongAlt.Alt, v.Heading then all it needs is a method of getting this into one of our pilot clients (or by having one specifically for DCS) and a connection to VATSIM should be possible.

Granted if using DCS you would still be geographically limited but it would certainly seem possible to have VATSIM ATC.'

Have we got people who can do this?

Would it be very labour intensive or the sort of thing somebody who's knows what there doing could put together in a few hours say?

Do you think we could approach ED for an optional plugin on the basis that it would be an advertisable feature that would probably draw more of the 'pure flight simmer' crowd in?

Posted

Maybe not necessary ED but some other 3rd party with appropiate knowledges might do this.

But this should wait until DCS 2.0 dedicated server will be out, tested and stable. Only then an proper ATC might have a real purpose.

Why, because he'll never see it coming?

One way to look at it. I was thinking more along the lines of just not having fighters around in a particular "mission".

Given that DCS produces v.LatLongAlt.x, v.LatLongAlt.Long, v.LatLongAlt.Alt, v.Heading

And therein lies the crux of the matter - that is not a given. It is, in fact, not so. Refer to the thread linked earlier regarding projection and distortion.

Take two pilots, one in FSX and one in DCS. Link them both to the same VATSIM world through separate clients and have them take off from the same airbase. If ATC give them both the same real-world heading for another airbase, the FSX pilot will head towards said base. The DCS pilot - flying the same heading in his or her simulator - will fly another track on the screen of the controller.

The relationship between coordinates and headings is skewed by the projection.

I have a hard time seeing VATSIM integration happening before there is a proper curved earth surface in DCS.

Cheers,

/Fred

Nice explanation Effte. I tried to rep you but apparently I have to spread it around a bit .. after a year!? Oh well. :)

My wish is that we eventually can do in DCS what I currently do in X-Plane with regard to civvy flying, because the modelling 'feel' in DCS is so much better, but lacks the curved earth thing and proper weather.

"A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft."

Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps

Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!

The message you got when you tried to rep, should have said something like "You can not give rep to this post." That is because it is in Chit-Chat. No post in Chit-Chat can be repped.
