Ping wise ... agree with the need to have a limit .... how about 300ms limit on trial and review again in a few weeks if still a problem .... we have lots of folks not as lucky to be living close to exchanges ...

Couple of questions Eeks,

What is the upload and download speed of the Burning Skies Server?

and

How much RAM is installed in the Burning Skies Server machine?

i7 2600k @ 4.4ghz

Asrock Z77 Exreme 4

16Gb DDR3 1866mhz

Samsung evo 850 SSD

Nvidia GTX 970

Server's up. Labels fixed. Will be considering ping limiter. It's easy to implement.

What's a reasonable number? 300?

I know some people here have suggested 250 and I understand the reason why but as an Australian I get pings a bit higher than that quiet regularly, it'll mean I'll be kicked quite often which makes it very hard for me and other Australians to enjoy ourselves.

If there was more Aussie servers I would happily play on them but there isn't.

If you could set it to 300 that would help us out a hell of a lot :pilotfly:

Cheers guys!

I understand you as I'm not able to play on some servers from USA or Canada (Im from Poland).

But setting the ping limit only to 300 ms would probably destroy gameplay.

As I said, I totally understand and im sorry but you live almost 20 000 km from where the server is located.

As this is the first time you are looking to apply a ping limit, and because ping is not the only factor where lag is concerned, and to allow as many people around the world to have a chance to fly on your server, one of the best currently in my opinion.

I would suggest 300ms is a good starting point.

The 104th server is heavily populated and is limited 330 and that seems to work out OK.

Lets test 300 ms an see what happens

My ping is currently 284, but yesterday was 303 IIRC. I am not sure about my average but I am a bit skeptical about the ping thing (I'm bias I know). People stuttering on the map are mostly unrelated to ping, but poor / low connection. You can be in Europe and stutter like crazy on Burning Skies if your band is narrow. I have a 60GB connection (right now at 62GB average and 6GB upload) and I never had problems with stuttering in all the games that I played, differently than many people that were flying not that far from the server. I was usually one of the last to experience stutter when the server was a bit slow.

The other aspect is that someone said that the player with high ping has an advantage, and this is not true. It is the opposite. Whoever is flying nearby or close to the server will have a lead over me in time (or anyone with a high ping), which translates into me looking back to an enemy turning with me and he will be in fact ahead in the turn that he / she is visually for me. I was shot many times in another sim when I thought that I had room to keep turning, or that I had space to maneuver without being shot. I have a video about it -- my plane being hit by bullets when the bullets were hitting air behind me -- almost 7m behind, the length of my plane, which was a lot. You adapt -- it is like facing planes that turn better than yours -- but people with higher ping are at the end of the stick in a dogfight.

Anyway, I can't say much because the server is in Russia and you guys can't accommodate everyone. The problem is that people only fly at Burning Skies. No easterners playing DCS or people migrated for some reason?

SeaWolf, I keep that in mind, and will definitely monitor the situation before doing ping limit. I'm still not sure 100% if it's worth limiting. But anyway event if i'll do i think it will be big number.

f10 disabled? I don't mind but I do NOT know the terrain yet lol... but it was actually kind of fun flying around only using the briefing map and knee pad

If that is the case then why bother

If that is the case then why bother

Because there are few factors.

1. Percentage of people with ping lets say over 300

2. Does it really results to any glitches if the connection is stable

3. What the real ping number that would result to visible glitches on the other player side

The problem is that even higher ping connection can be ok, since damage in dcs is calculated on the side of player who shoots and 3d model is used for that purpose but not net phantom.

On the other side you can have ping 100 and be teleporting like hell if you have high level of packet losses.

So the idea is to not cut off higher ping players who don't create any problem for others, and if most of higher ping players don't then which is ping number which in most cases also come with significant packet loss..

I saw a server (Phoenix, if i remember correctly), and they had 350 or so. On the other hand I rarely see players with 350+ on BS.

I'm pretty sure its the same to guys that are 1 and 2. The stats page uses a DCS ID of some what so, you can change your name all you want and you will have same stats.

BTW....I have flown with both of those guy's and they are some fantastic pilots. What I want to know is though....which one is WaffenCat and BTW what is a WaffenCat?

Lol IDK, anyway looking the stats I don't found their names and statistic. I remember especially BMB89 was a fantastic ratio 36 or 38 of best airstrikes and 1 death, if I remember right, and now they disapperaed.

Nevermind, just to know, I ever looking the good pilots in the server (for see the six much more

frantically :) )

waffencat is a combination of german and english: waffen-weapons ... cat is obvious.

its RF Jack and CMF ... both fly for the *FF* "firmament fighters" ... i would like to fly with those guys more , but they are speaking russian, and i would just be the 5th wheel on the car ;)

im glad that they fly more german planes now :D

There are two types of fighter pilots - those who have, and those who will execute a magnificent break turn towards a bug on the canopy . . . .
