I was able to tag along with the DoW members on the first night of play for this new mission, "Operation Drainpipe." As the FNG, there wasn't a whole lot of responsibility placed on me, but I went up with bombs and rockets anyway. Even managed to turn my plane into a fire marker for a target, "popping smoke" as it were. icon_lol.gif

The mission requirements for the good guys are:

- Locate and destroy enemy Command Bunker and compound (2 targets). Bombs required for bunker, rockets or guns for the other. This disables AAA and spawns a flight of bombers.

- Hook up with and defend the bomber flight from nasty bad guys in red.

- Watch with joy as the bombers wipe out the port facility from 12K.

BLUE - With enough players, CAP can be assigned to protect Mustang strikes during the initial phase.

RED - RedFor has the rather fun task of killing Mustangs laden with bombs and rockets, and /or the bombers. It is a shooting gallery for the Red team.

This simulation has massive potential for coordinated play and team strategy. Because of the pressure placed upon both sides by the time limits built into it, this mission also begs for a tactical commander for each side. Resources have to be assigned and reassigned as this battle moves forward. It really is TWO mission in one, with the success of the second half resting completely on the effective prosecution of the first. RedFor has opportunity to win this mission simply by being a pain in the arse. DELAY. This is one of those missions that could be advertised in advance for many players to attend a reserved game. I would hope 3 or 4 would record the mission for some awesome playback video.

Speaking of videos, this one is taken from my perspective, so a lot of the action is not first-person, but all of the comms are present, as the flight was working on TeamSpeak3. (I strongly encourage any and all pilots to get on DoW's TeamSpeak server. It makes the experience vastly more fun.) This 6 minute video captures the final rendezvous with the bomber flight, the approach to the target area, the loss of a bomber, and the beautiful destruction of the port filmed live as I'm banking overhead. icon_twisted.gif

Hey again guys,

I'd just like to make a suggestion based on my recent playing.

I would prefer if you guys removed all AI 109's from your servers for now. I see the 109 as an unfinished product especially when it comes to the AI flight model and damage model. This is exacerbated by the fact that currently the AI planes tend to bend the rules of physics and ability to maneuver in certain situations.

They're by no means invincible, (and I killed one in a 3-vs-me scenario on your server today and lived :)), but I feel it leads to some very frustrating gameplay. I think it would be better if it were added back in once it is patched and finished.

Thanks again for the great server.

Hey all, DoW Flight Night this weekend sometime? Maybe Friday night, or Sunday evening?

We can try to run Drainpipe? I wouldn't mind leading some axis folks in an attempt to counter the allied attack on that map!

Hey Ultra,

I hear ya on the 109 AI. Drastically different from the 190, from my experiences. For that reason I put them in a triggered position deep in enemy territory on the River Raiders map. We can take a look at our rotation and see if we can adjust a bit.

Thanks again for your support! I will be sending out those DoW t-shirts I promised ASAP.

I'm totally down. I could do it almost whenever except Sunday night isn't great for me.

Good idea!

No DoW Servers available, nor any TS.

As well, TS was unavailable much of yesterday (Friday).

Just wondering if you are aware ?

PS> Thanks for all that y'all do to make our flying an enjoyable experience.

Minor meltdown. Always good to test yourself with a network rebuild. :D

Should see at least one DoW server and TS back up. Let me know if you are noticing any performance improvements... I was able to expand the pipe a bit.

Since the latest update I have been seeing some new things.

For starters, I see allot of aberrations or reflections of land in the air (like a mirage) and other visual artifacts.

More disturbing than that though is that it seems that the Damage/Hit/Kill zones around Boats (and maybe other targets) has drastically changed.

Today I was flying Loose Lips by myself.

Anyone who has flown with me knows that I can sink ships. I "often" sink 3 per flight.

Today, after 4 flights, it was all I could do to sink 2.

To confirm my beliefs, I actually waited for the very last second to fire my rockets. I would fire at least 4 dead center on the Boat's Tower (and on the hull and on the deck with each different flight) and this was doing nothing. In fact, when you could clearly see that the missiles where hitting cleanly, it appears that the missiles go right though the ship and splash water .... under the ship. That is the splash rings emanate or originate directly below the ship.

Usually 3 rockets will do and if anything followed by a few bullets. But today, it didn't seem to matter where I placed the shots, they almost always were shown to miss when I definitely what Not Missing.

But before I post in a DCS Thread re: Issues, I figured I best come here first to see if anything within the Mission itself has been changed (with regards to Loose Lips ... although I have seen the visual affects in a few missions .... I will double check my video drivers).

hmmm - there used to be some real problems synchronizing the ship positions across MP clients... i wonder if this bug is rearing its ugly head again?

Yeah seems that the DM for old ground and naval vehicles is still being worked on heavily.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

UPDATE:

There was in fact, a new Video Card Driver Update available, however it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the "mirages" although there aren't as prevelant. As well, I haven't yet been on the same missions yet either.

As far as the missile hits go, I didn't have any issues aiming at Ground Vehicles yesterday (that I could blame on anything but myself that is !!).

I will let y'all know anything I find when I get a chance to get back into Loose Lips and one other mission (can't think of name) again.

Question for pony pilots, do you're .50 cal's have any affect on unarmoured dry shipping vessels? Just wondering if it is possible just working on deducing the penetration effectiveness of the 20mm on the Dora and I seem to be able to take out T-55's so wondering if it's possible to take out larger ships too.

I'm not sure about Guns alone, but certainly after a ship has been hit with one or two rockets, they can be finished off with guns.

I can't say I Haven't killed a cargo ship with guns alone ... I just can't remember if I ever have.

Best way to find out is load a couple container ships into a mission and "have at'er" !!

BTW ... I can now confirm .. it has Nothing to do with Video Drivers and Everything to do with DCS's most recent patch/update.

Just got done w/Loose Lips in which 5 rockets for each of two cargo ships ... neither killed or even damaged either ship. No smoke, no flames, no mas.

Had a wingman with me (Net_Man) who can confirm my rockets hit and did nothing.

Sorry for the bad news fellers. Hopefully it's an easy fix (i.e. a quick DCS Update that does more help than damage would be nice !!) LOL.

I might just make the convoy static with a timer victory condition then... Darn ships always been a problem - probably hurting mudskipper too then :(
