AMD Catalyst Omega coming 9th Dec

Recommended Posts

OK, I got it now,

Control Panel, Uninstall Programs, AMD Catalyst Install Manager, Express Uninstall (Takes a Bit to complete for me), Reboot, Ensure nothing AMD is in programs list.

Run the Installer as Admin (as I think it doesnt by default which leads to display driver signing issue, then the issue above), renamed the extraction folder (added a -1) to make it a new folder,

Installed using Express Option, NO errors, Reboot,

Gravy so far, now I'm just re-building my main profiles for screen arrangement.

Did they fix the sleep issue with laptops? I heard they fixed these issues. Any one confirm sleep issue is resolved?

Yes yes they fixed the sleep issue. That is great news at least for me. While I think performance-wise it is equal to 14.41 or may be better but i didn't benchmark it.

In my case: express uninstall, then go safe mode, use DDU uninstaller tool to get rid off all leftovers. Reboot, install omega, reboot. In DCS a few FPS better - but this may be result of cleaning all old stuff by DDU. Nothing more that i can see right now - looks like stable but no performance gain.

Using DDU to wipe all AMD drivers for me is a risk I'm not gonna take with an AMD Chipset.

Same story here: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 mobo -thats why I'v decided to wipe everything to make sure that all drivers (graphics and chipset) are new one.

Last time I wiped all AMD I lost all chipset drovers for USB ETC, had to login using remote desktop from my other pc over lan just to install the usb drivers, which was problematic, so I went to my storage closet and dug out a PS/2 Keyboard, but not all the new mainboards still have a PS/2 port. I was lucky.

If in doubt, you can always check AMD's own uninstall guide. They recommend you do this every time before installing a new driver.

Just saw it. Yup. They say that all you should do is to use the express uninstall. That's it. I'll top it off with reboots and that's all.

BTW, they recommend you update your system (windows update) before attempting a reinstallation or uninstallation. That was something completely new to me.

is there a way to have normal character size if you put a resolution of 2560x1440 on a 1080p monitor?

I changed on windows the text size to ''medium - 125%'' or ''larger - 150%'' but neither are like it was.

And ingame text are very small.

edit: seems I can put custum %, and 135% is doing it.

but still got tiny text in DCS...:(

Be careful with one of the latest Windows Updates kb3004394 it can cause problems with this driver

http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4975247&postcount=378

I got this Email from Ceton Support for WMC/Ceton Tuner Users.

Yesterday Microsoft posted 2 Windows updates that negatively affect WMC users. Please do not update to KB3004394 or KB3013769. The updates break the Microsoft PlayReady software used by Media Center to playback copy-protected content.

If you’ve already installed either of these updates you can remove them by following these steps:

* In Windows go to: Start / Control Panel in Windows

* Select: Programs / Uninstall a program

* Click: View installed updates

* Locate “Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3004394)”, click on it, and click Uninstall

* Reboot

Follow the same steps to uninstall “Update for Microsoft Windows (KB3013769)”

Also Effects DRM of Windows Media Protected Items (WMV/WMA/Xbox Music, Etc)

Another thread about that windows update problem here (posts #6 and #8 blaming AMD when it's MS fault 'I should probably stick to Nvidia' and 'seems nVidia is the far superior product when it comes to drivers I'm afraid' typical lol)

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=395345

I blame MS, they have a History of Forcing down Updates that break Games/MPEG4/H264/PlayReady repeatedly.
