How do you pick up/drop off infantry in the Mi-8?

Thanks

Anyone, how do you get troops to disembark? I used to be able to talk to them via communications menu and then "Descent"...but no more. Is there any other hidden command? Cause they just won't disembark on their own even though you've landed at their drop-off point. Basically, I can't talk to them anymore and they can't disembark themselves. Great.

Depends on the mission maker and the script he uses.

159th uses the radio menu and then F10 for other.

Look for troopdrop option (or similar) and go from there.

In some missions you can also spawn enemy AI flights, in this case look for OPFOR under the F10 radio menu.

The embark/disembark feature is currently broken. It will crash the server.

If it works again, it is a great alternative for scripted/triggered troop transport, as it actually takes into account weight of the passengers (also for clients).

Is the troop embark/disembark feature working for anyone? Please confirm.

No matter that I set the embark to transport/disembark from transport for a troop group and bind it to a particular Mi-8 unit, there is no F6 menu option, nor the troops are embarking by themselves. It seems to me, that this feature is completely broken in the latest version (1.2.14.35605).

TIA,

Yup, agentkgb - it's broken alright. Happened to me after December 4th or 3rd (along with easy comms gone). Troop menu is gone, troops can sometimes embark but sure as hell can't disembark. Some guy somewhere had a script for making this to function anyway, but me - I just think they've broken the Huey and Mi-8 choppers (they're utility choppers, I want to be able to use them like that...straight from mission editor). This is easy stuff and it worked just fine before they screwed it up (so nobody please don't come talkin' "hey it's a Beta" with me).

Anyways, this blunder of their's forced me into the fixed wing department. The Mustang is one tough old gal and the Sabre is just plain awesome to fly.

But I will get back to the choppers if they ever fix them again. Let's hope sometime this year :smilewink:

Tackar :)

Yeah, I also don't want to play with additional scripts, luas etc. just want to use it straight from the mission editor. Until this is fixed, the fun/free flying is the only option to do with the Mi-8 :(

Let's hope for a quick resolution.

Thx again.

Tackar tackar! ;)

Well, if you have the Huey you can always play the campaign. It's high quality, very well thought out and has pretty much zero glitches. With scripted troop hauling. Gotta say it again - it's HIGH QUALITY stuff! (I haven't tried any Mi-8 campaigns)

Troop hauling is still a WiP for ED. I don't think they have ever said it's ready, just that they are working on it.

I think they pulled it off the / radio while rebuilding it to work for all transports, Player, AI, they even mentioned ground vehicles at some point. If they can make that all work it will be worth the wait.

Belsimtek have said on these forums somewhere they are waiting for transport/crew to be made part of DCSW instead of building another one off like they did for the Huey.

For now there are the scripts, or custom mission triggers.

FYI I have been testing some of my previous versions and the troop transport/F7 menu is working in 1.2.11.33921

Once your passengers disembark, how do you get them to continue to their waypoint?

I have mine set to embark at WP1, then disembark at their drop off point, but then they always run back to the location where they were picked up from. Even though WP2 is a lot closer.

There will be a whole new world opening to mission builders if the helicopters get fully included in DCS. Right now, yes, it is more or less just fun flying and getting to know the beast. I would love to use the Mi to carry Jeeps around, insert troops, pick up Pilots and bring them home etc...

Best workaround is using the CA module if you have it to give waypoints and targets to units.

Failing that wait as patiently as possible for ED to fix embark/disembark feature:)

I've managed to sort it now.

The disembark option needs to be on a separate waypoint to the embark option in the "advanced waypoint menu". WP1 - Embark, WP2 - Disembark. The editor inserts the disembarking circle right on top of the selected waypoint as soon as you select it.

I'm using the AI to do the transporting, so it may be different with a human pilot.
