first im gonna start by saying yes i know this topic has probably been done to DEATH but i thought i would present my situation to see what would work for me right now. my budget is about 475$ and i could either get an X55 and flashy rudder pedals or a warthog with like 90$ CH pro pedals. i was at first set on the X55 but after i stumbled upon a video made by ralfidude which brought to light a lot of the issues of the X55, i was definitely leaning more towards the warthog. HOWEVER it's worth mentioning i have slightly bigger than average and slim hands, which i heard makes the X55 more accessible. i also like the 3 different profiles, but i really wouldnt be too heartbroken if i went with the warthog and kept using the keyboard for less essential commands like landing gear. i kind of wish that you could still get the cougar but even if i did get it i hear the software is seriously outdated. stiction is also big concern of mine in the case of the warthog, and im not too keen on taking it apart to the bare minimum to fix that issue.

SO dear people of dcs what do you think? should i get the cheaper X55 or the big bad beefy warthog and try and scrape in some more money for cheap rudder pedals?

[EDIT] another thing im concerned about is the throttle. i REALLY like the switches on the warthog throttle, not so much on the rhino. the rhino's hat switches, from what i understand, are so small that it's incredibly hard to use them as say a china hat switch, as well as the fact that it's very easy to bump them both while trying to access just one of them]

I have taped foam on to the base of my x55 stick which raises my hand about an inch. This allows me to reach the weapon release and trim buttons without moving my hand. It would be nice to have a smaller castle hat.

I really like having two rotaries right on my throttle thumb. In fighters I have them set to "zoom view' and 'radar elevation'.

It's very nice if you get one that works:thumbup:

that's a neat idea! has the dms hat given you any problems? especially when trying to push it to the right

I think if you compare the warthog to ANY stick , the warthog will win ;)

I'm in a kind of similar situation as you right now. But i would NEVER get the x55 becouse it doesn't have 2 stage trigger

Warthog is about $500. I would recommend that you go and buy a cheaper saitek stick and get a trackir instead.

I have the Rhino X-55 and ím very happy with it. No problems since i´ve plugged it to USB 3.0. All runs smooth. An unbeatble relation price-quality IMHO.

This summer I bought a warthog. All I had ever tried was 20$ koysticks...man... The warthog has 1 problem, the slew. Not the end of the world, you get used to it, but its the weak point of the stick and you should know that before buying it, although there's a WIP fix for it. That being said, warthog is the way to go if you can afford it. I'm a student and here that stick costs 600$, so its far from cheap for me, but It's 100% worth it. Stick-wise, the X55 is no where near the warthog (from the reviews I saw) and throttle-wise it is closer (both have their advantages) but the desing/layout of the buttons on the warthog is the best by far.

For the 3 profiles, you got 6 layers in TARGET (programming software (Its great)) so yeah...you'll get more.

For the sticktion, This cristmass I made myself a chair where I have the joystick beetween my legs (giggty). Its the way its meant to be, and I barely notice the stiction anymore compared to when it was on my desk, where I did notice it.

Pedals wise, I'm using some old racing pedals, not great, but it does the job very well with a bit of programing (I rarely use rudder in flight, so its mainly for take off and stalls).

SO IN SHORT : WARTHOG if pedals are not the #1 tool in flight.

You don't need expensive pedals. CH are about $100and Saitek combat are about $170. They both work great, I've had both. I had CH for about 10 years, then switched to the combat pedals back in March 2014. I like the combat pedals because they are wider than the CH and the actual pedals can be adjusted...plus you can adjust the tension. I wouldn't spend more then that on pedals, I think it's a waste, but that's me.

I would still have my CH pedals if CH would have made a different throttle.
