Honest989 Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 :icon_supe Ok, I guess everyone loves Ironhand and his flanker training site, but considering i bought Lomac a week ago, with FC, I am fresh to this game and don't know everything yet. I played the a-10 campaign through but I wanted a clean score, so I started again.. I always had trouble with about three of the missions though as there was so much AA presence. For a while, when it came to tor's, tunguskas etc in missions I couldn't really figure out how to get past them unless i used a Mav on them. I've just watched one of Ironhand's 'how to operate in a SAM environment' and completed all three of those missions without a scratch - and i didn't destroy any of them either.. just my main targets. Thankyou ironhand for the tutorial!
Andrew_McP Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Rich deserves a medal for many years of great service to the community. There aren't many others who can match his contributions over the last decade or so. Andrew McP PS You've only had LOMAC a week and you've already completed a campaign? Sheesh, I've had it years and still haven't managed that! :-)
Honest989 Posted April 14, 2006 Author Posted April 14, 2006 ;) That was just ground pounding... I've got a serious problem with the SU-25t campaigns. For FC, just because it's flippin' hard but for the campaign entitled 'su-25t campaign' the second mission is causing me a headache. The turn rate of my plane won't match the su-25, I can' see the ships until i'm beneath the mist and as soon as i do, for some odd reason i get a slide show and die when i get close enough to use rockets on them.
Gunja Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Yes, that man trained me as well. What he did so far is realy impresive. Ironhand has my gratitude and admiration.
capttrob Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 Ironhand is the man.. TDW is the man....WildBill is the man.... Pilotasso is the man.... snomf is the man.... GG is the man.... Shep is the man.... as well as many others i fail to remember off the top of my head. :icon_jook Honest, anytime you need air support, it would be a pleasure to escort you. Im still learning the A-10. But i hold my own pretty well in the F-15. I can also use some help engaging SAM's with the Mav-D. So if we are ever alone on a server, i would certainly feel privledged to fly your wing while listening to your tips for defeating sams. :icon_supe

This is something I always wanted to do- a coop mission with deep penetration low profile with some A2A engagements on the way in and on the way back. I remember we tried with Alfa few years ago to fly such a mission online in Flanker 2.5 with MiG-29K but it didn't work for several reasons- mostly because of our slow connections and the full of bugs Flanker's network code. Then I gave up on coop missions and moved entirely on guns only dogfights, something that was fully doable even at slow conn. I see that FC is way better in this aspect, there are many ground attackers in the Lobby. "See, to me that's a stupid instrument. It tells what your angle of attack is. If you don't know you shouldn't be flying." - Chuck Yeager, from the back seat of F-15D at age 89. =RvE=

VMFA-Blaze Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Yes I totally agree with all of the previous posts.... When I was haveing trouble in Flanker 2.5 I had posted in the UBI Flanker forum for help.... I was completley ignored as usual (LOL), when Rich posted some sound advise.... So to make along story short after I applied it and was able to finally complete the mission successfuly... dogtoes Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 I also throw a S! towards Ironhand. His tutorials are head and shoulders above a dry manual any day! How he finds the time to produce such slick, watchable movies is beyond me. Keep it up Rich! Ironhand Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Okay. You've made me blush. Fell ill and then needed to travel over the Easter weekend and returned to find this thread. A heart-felt "thank you" to all. Knowing that the tutorials help you to enjoy your flights more is why I continue to make them. Of course, finding the time to make them... Once again, thank you. Guest IguanaKing Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Aww hell...I missed this one. Another salute from me, Rich! Without your Hog tutorials, I'd still be trying to hit targets from only a couple thousand AGL. :icon_supe

I mean that you are able to keep the cannon lined on target effortlessly....when I try doing that..the jet always seems to stick where I move my joystick....if you know what I mean...its hard for it to stay straight....can you..lol...make a tutorial of how to calibrate the x-45 ?? :p thanx buddy. pleasure to see your willingness to help. Shaman Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Ironhand is the man Ironhand is surely one of the greatest members of combat flight sim community, no question about it. Flightsim instructor, mentor, and good man overall. If you have trouble aiming with A-10 cannon, try it with Su-25T when trigger is pressed ;) There's a trick to increase resolution of your joystick. Did you try that? In joyrange.cfg set increase value to 2000. I mean that you are able to keep the cannon lined on target effortlessly.... I assume you have some "dead zone" dialled into your setup. Other than that, mostly I have the a/c trimmed for my anticipated attack speed and try to stay in that speed range during the attack by playing dive brakes and throttles against each other. A light hand on the stick during the attack also helps. I sometimes receive tracks from other people and, in the watching, I can tell that they have a death grip on their flight stick. That almost guarantees that you'll overcontrol. BTW, when I say that I have the a/c trimmed for the attack, I enjoy trimming. Depending on the flight, I might fly the verticle axis of the ingress route using trim control alone. After a very short time with that type of practice, trimming becomes 2nd nature and something you do without conscious thought...and usually in the right amounts on the first attempt. BTW...don't sweat and waste time on any tutorials...just make em' when u r free Well, I doubt you'd like that very much. If I only made them when I was free, you would have seen your last tutorial about 3 years ago. :) Rich YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU1...CR6IZ7crfdZxDg _____ Win 11 Pro x64, Asrock Z790 Steel Legend MoBo, Intel i7-13700K, MSI RKT 4070 Super 12GB, Corsair Dominator DDR5 RAM 32GB.
Honest989 Posted April 17, 2006 Author Posted April 17, 2006 There's another trick for me though... sometime in the future I will kill my saitek cyborg 3d gold. It's a POS. Half the time when I start my PC it fails to initialize, which means I need to unplug and replug. Furthermore, when using the hat to move the pipper, the thing just flings around so it's tough to do fine aiming with it.
RedBear Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Ironhand S! I start with flanker family since the 1.0 vertion and i remember his trainnig track for flanker 2.0/2.5 vertion and then the tracks for loma.... a long way in the case the new comer didn´t know it. evading a long range sam (S300) missile with the ortagenol roll ;) in flanker 2.5 between others. yeah a long way.
