Trubshaw Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 Hi guys....where do you get your simpit switches from? ...any really good sites out there? Cheers [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] TrubshawRN -=SHREK 94=-
Socket7 Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 (edited) Digikey.com I used NKK S300 series switches, and found them to be a bit larger then the switches on a thrustmaster warthog. I'll be finding some with a smaller diameter on the toggle base in the future. Cheaper too, hopefully. The warthog switches are 17.5mm tall and have a base diameter of I guess, 8 to 10mm. You're looking for SPST and SPDT switches of the ON-OFF, ON-OFF-ON, and ON-OFF-(ON) variety. They can be any brand or voltage or shape you like really, so it's down to personal preference. There are engineering diagrams of the switches in their data sheets, so you can get an idea of their size and shape. You CAN get military spec switches, like ones you'd really find in an aircraft, but you'll be paying at least $40 for a switch, possibly much more. Have some photos of my terrible handywork. The guts of the toggles are actually so large the arduino doesn't fit in the project box. http://imgur.com/a/qFHcJ Edited January 23, 2015 by Socket7 Practice makes perfect.
FSFIan Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 The guts of the toggles are actually so large the arduino doesn't fit in the project box. Then you are using the wrong kind of Arduino board :) A Pro Mini should fit in there. To save the space for a separate USB-to-Serial adapter board, use one of these adapter cables. DCS-BIOS | How to export CMSP, RWR, etc. through MonitorSetup.lua
Sabre-TLA Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 I used Digikey in Canada. No problems with the products or service. Prices were reasonable to me at the time (last year). Good vendor IMO. MapleFlagMissions - Read Our Blog for Updates
Puma Posted January 23, 2015 Posted January 23, 2015 digikey is awesome cause I'm in Canada and they are sometimes even same day. Mouser is pretty much the us equivalent. For the volume required for a full project I hit eBay for Hong Kong for anything I needed more than 3 of. Takes a little longer, higher defect rate, but still totally worth it. Deadman Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 (edited) You can get Mil spec bat or (NON locking) switches for much less than $40.00 USD. I have even found locking switches for less than half of that check my build thread for the switch list you can use it as a cross reference Sorry forgot to say eBay would be your best bet there are severial mils spec sellers in the EU and UK http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1558830&postcount=375 Edited January 24, 2015 by Deadman https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Cali Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 Where are you located? It also depends on what kind of switches you want. I have no problem buying them at radio Shack. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED

Boltz Posted January 24, 2015 Posted January 24, 2015 For UK I use Maplin Electronics. Switches are somewhat expensive but with their "10 Amp Toggle Switches" the feel is just great. Apart from them you could just try Ebay but they will be of much less quality or RS Components (UK Radio Shack) who are a great vendor. I use them for everything apart from most switches and consumables. A-10C Cockpit Build Thread My YouTube Channel
