I am currently running 1.2.14.35605 and have been asked if I want to update at this time. I am a little gun shy as my install is running very well. I have the A10, P51, Huey and FC3, plus the free Su25T. I guess my question is : are there any problems with this update? Any must haves? I thought I saw a thread about the update but don't see it now. Thanks for any insight as I don't want to mess up my current install.

Game is still improving, and to implement these improvements your game will have to update. Also, if you dont have the latest updates, you may not be able to play online (multiplayer).

Your game is basically just getting better with these updates, which is pretty normal these days. Before, you would buy your game on a disc and that was it. Any glitches and bugs on that game would never get fixed, but thanks to our technology today, our games will only improve!

Thank you. I've never had a problem updating before, but when the sim is running so good I had to check. I'll run the update later (after taking out several buildings, a truck or two,and a couple of parked planes while I try to get this Huey to hover:joystick:

Thanks again

DCS just gets better with every update, the chances that something goes wrong are pretty small.

You... ain't no long-time DCS user, are you? :D

Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

It's just that DCS updates have introduced major bugs in the past and there are no guarantees whatsoever that new updates won't break anything, either. I think in the recent past there were no major ones. I just don't have the same kind of faith in updates as you seem to have. Well, let's hope that future updates will continually keep drawing me on the "sure, feel free to update, it's as safe as it gets" side. :smartass:

Thanks for the understanding in my apprehension in updating. I have been through a few updates and been on these forums for long enough to have heard of some bad experiences. I have, to date, not had to deal with any.

MJ, If You intend to buy new modules in the future, their installers will require updating the core game anyway, so sooner or later you will have to do it whether you want it or not.

Every patch fixes some bugs and introduces quite a few new ones, but since the infamous "aircrafts-to-aircraft-folder" and "Su-25 training missions" mess-ups, which took place last year, there have been no gamebreaking bugs related to upgrading and I don't expect similar things to happen again. As for new glitches - you learn to live with'em (and wait for the next patch to replace them with others :D)

This last update broke all my Huey SAR and troop pickup missions. Very disappointing because I spent quite a long time getting them just right and now no word on if or when the issue will be fixed.

With word now coming that a World 2.0 release may come as late as June, I'm very leery to waste time building missions and doing modifications in the future if these updates are going to keep breaking them.

Despite the risk of running into problems, I usually update right away when a new version is released. It's required for multiplayer anyway (everyone must be on the same version) and I don't recall major bugs in the past couple of months, at least not regarding aircraft, weapons, and flight characteristics.

But...

This last update broke all my Huey SAR and troop pickup missions.

Yup, missions get broken on a regular basis, that's pretty annoying. Sometimes triggers won't fire, sometimes DCS will crash as soon as a mission starts. Entire scripts that are widely used in missions have been broken with updates.

These mission editor problems are something I hope ED will be more careful to avoid in the future, seeing as some mission designers spent a really long time to get missions working. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any official roadmaps regarding the ME, where ED could for instance state "Don't use function XYZ, it's deprecated and will be removed entirely in relaese 1.2.nn" or something.

In short, recent updates haven't turned DCS unplayable for me, but there's always the risk of them breaking something that used to work while fixing something that didn't. :)

Is it something specific to Hueys? Because I just played, recorded, and uploaded to youtube a Mi-8 troop insertion and pickup mission that I created, and everything performed flawlessly. Also what exactly broke? The triggers? some kind of scripting?

Naturally I am really curious because over the last few weeks I have been diving headfirst into mission building for the purposes of showcasing them on youtube.

For months now (6 I believe) DCS has been stellar in its patch release dates now. With all of the "Major" bugs being extinguished the Developers are able to work on the minor issues. Hence the fixes for object errors and the like.

If one still has concerns it is easy to just down load 2 ver. of the Simulator. I use the 1.2.7 release for every day flying, it has the fewest bugs that allow me to operate the A10c. I also use the Beta ver. for checking the updated software with my PC. An important part of a beta is sometimes there can be PC specific issues, these of course not applying across the board so that PC 1 gets superb frame rates and PC 2 doesn't.

Once all is settled I will be able to delete the extra ver. and while waiting this great metamorphosis my flying skills are being honed.

Just a point of matter, for those with the space to download 2 ver. and avoid any issues with updates. This not really being an issue for months now. As in play stopping issues anyway.

Oh great, the latest DCS update makes all MP clients crash whenever the scripting function coalition.addGroup() is called (incidentally used by the widely used CTTS library). Wasted a good 1 1/2 hours of our time today because none of the guys were aware of this.

That's exactly the kind of bugs that keep appearing, get fixed, then something else breaks. None of it a total show stopper, but each a real pain in the behind for mission designers and pilots alike.

Wow people are really mad at this issue. I thought it was just me and a couple of my friends that were upset because the update it broke but no, it seems like a huge problem to the DCS community.

Hope it will be fixed soon...

Haha honestly, I'm not a long time user. I just have faith in updating as my last 10 updates introduced no major bugs whatsoever. Until that's the case, I'll try to keep my faith. :D

You can update, but bare the consequence that a lot of multi player missions and servers are currently broken due to the fact that the function coalition.addGroup() is kicking out every client when this function is called...

As a result, the more interesting missions out there are broken.

So the statements you read above that the update is okay is not true. The update to 1.2.14.35734 is stable, 36041 is not, although i think when you update and would play only single player missions, the lastest update may work for you well. It depends what functionality you use, you see...

Mission designers are currently a bit annoyed, as their missions are now not hostable anymore and not stable.

I agree. Also wasted hours trying to find the symptoms or causes for introduced bugs, which the average gamer would never notice, as most haven't designed complex missions. But then when these missions are not hosted anymore due to bugs, then suddenly complains appear. Count my words. And some people are reacting in another thread on suggestions to improve beta testing. I have a strong feeling these people are not aware what it takes to make missions, to host them and to keep them stable.
