Bit As far as I know that is the best gaming 1440p, low latency TN panel with G-Sync you can get at the moment. It's on my future shopping list  I know low latency is not absolutely essential for simming but if you got Nvidia 660 or newer card (for G-Sync) and play also other games you will not regret it. BitMaster Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 Sounds great from the reviews but does it help DCS 1.x and how will it be with 2.0 when EDGE comes around....? I am gonna stick with the 27" HD screen and put that money in my watercooler setup, just got the quote for it and it is the same price as for the monitor and to be honest, silence goes over eye-candy for now. Rogue Trooper Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 A review would be great Bitmaster. I am very interested in this monitor. the 980 should drive it nicely. It would be interesting to know how the 980s 4 gigs gets utilized. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Bit .....congrats......had mine for a few months now...really like it. i had the 24"/144hz asus 1080p monitor for over a year before the Rog swift so i'm used to the tn panel. for a tn panel the color is very good on the Rog, and needed no tweaks unlike the asus 24" 1080 tn i had. the G-sync i still have not really messed with yet. i suppose i should at some point lol. as far as pushing 1440p, one 980 works very good. i have two 980's but rarely ever use both, and for DCS i just use one.....but yeah 1440p/144hz/1ms is a awesome thing:thumbup: Edited February 12, 2015 by TwilightZone P-51, 190-D9, 109-K4, Spitfire MK IX, Normandy, and everything else:joystick: i7 4770K, 4.3ghz, 32gb ram, Windows-10 Pro, Z87 Exstreme4, Corsair 850w psu, Samsung Evo 1T SSD & 250 SSD, Titan-X 12gb OC, Asus ROG Swift 27"/1440p/144hz/1ms monitor, Trackir 5, TM Warthog & 10cm extension, Saitek TPM, MFG crosswind pedals
BitMaster Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 The monitor arrived in Frankfurt, all I wait for now are the SSD and the 980 gtx, the ssd will come tomorrow as indicated and the gtx 24th now. It seems like this Poseidon is really a rare card. Once The SSD is is I will get to Frankfurt and pick up the stuff at the office. Since its a 4h drive both ways I really want to wait for most things to come in, the gtx will be sent to my home place by the office girls :) Just can't re-send that 27", I gotta get their myself and put it in the trunk. The reason is got the Asus ROG screen is this terrible tearing !!! Now with TIR involved it is just terrible, hurts my eyes, causes headache and overall I think one should not treat his eyes bad but care for them the best possible way. Smoothness for sure helps to relief strain on that. I purely did this for medical reasons, the eye candy it will add just by not stuttering is welcome :) SLI is not an option yet as my board won't do SLI, I would need to hop to a Z97 Asus board with a 4790k cpu.... If EDGE shows that it really can use it I won't say no, but for now I stay with 1 card but got me a more stable power supply with 1200 watts as my 750RX Corsair is sweating and producing a LOT OF HEAT when I OC this rig with a 480GTX in it, I don't want to find out it can't OC the i7 to 5.0 GHz along with the 980 close to 1.6GHz boost clock and 8GHz memory clock. It for sure needs more total power than the 750 can deliver. The card alone without oc needs 300w, say with OC it will need close to 500, the CPU alone will easily go beyond 150w if close to 5GHz, yet left aside all other components. So I decided to take a bigger one, and the 860 option was not enough in case SLI comes around so I grabbed that AXi-1200 on sale for 100 bucks less than normal price and hope it will be enough to do SLI with OC'ing the hell out of everything :) Bit Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
Random Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 You NEED 45fps+ with gsync or you end up with a visible flicker as the screen refreshes.
BitMaster Posted February 12, 2015 Author Posted February 12, 2015 Well, then let's hope that the 980 can push it way way beyond 45 fps average. I really hope to achieve somewhere around 80-100 fps, but that is pure guessing. vicx Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 You NEED 45fps+ with gsync or you end up with a visible flicker as the screen refreshes. You got a cite for that? Perhaps a technical review? Flickering could come from a poor implenetation of the backlighting system and that would make it less of G-sync problem and more of a hardware implementation issue. You should name the brand and model of the monitor with the problem; if you are making the claim.
BitMaster Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 From what I read before I hit that order button, the Gsync is exactly for this LOW 45 FPS and not down to 45 fps as mentioned above. Most if not all tests I read said that tearing was more or less absent with this monitor and some games with high fps it was a 1st time they were able to really see certain fast-shown details, like Minecraft scenes etc... very simple game but very high fps and lots of polygons I guess. If things won't be fast enough, I will exchange Mainboard and CPU and get me a SLI capable setup with a 2nd Poseidon. I am nit gonna stop here if it won't get me to the finish line :) * once EDGE is out and SLI works* Bit Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
vicx Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 BM, As I read it months ago, G-Sync is designed to make LOW framerates look almost as good as high framerates. The whole point of G-sync is make the connection between monitor and videocard a lot more intelligent to create a smoother experience. In theory G-sync is the perfect monitor for flight sims where the framerate DOES fluctuate heavily. If games could be coded to deliver perfect and stable 120fps at low latency there would be no need for G-sync. We do not live in perfect world so G-sync solves a real problem. Of course we want your review to be sure.

For some panels its 30, for others 40 and 45 Hz. Since Gsync/Freesync/Adaptive Synch matches the refresh rate of the monitor to the frames the pc sends, they can't get lower than the number set by the panel manufacturer. BitMaster Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 It works .) It's AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guys, even with the "smaller" 760 GTX I bought for my son the ROG Swift is amazing when it switches RED on the LED and enters GSYNC. Now, when I move my head with TIR it's free of any tearing, smooth as a baby a$$ :) This is with a 760 GTX and 2 x 250GB HDD in Raid-0 I have got my 980 and my ssd today, typing on it, but had to redo Win7 to please the SSD and my mind. I will post how much better it got from 780 to 980 tomorrow when I am all set and ready 2 fly. I also got the Warthog yesterday and it's a lot of new toys I have to get adjusted and able to use properly before posting BS. ...ok...MSupdates calls in...reboot...the old game... REDMOND, they all do better with this, why cant you make a proper update sequence ??? 1 Go and DONE, like Mac or Linux....no, Redmond send youi 15 times to the counter to get some update portion, one at a time....grhhhhh How I hate Windows for its stupidity, let's thank the Godfathers of SSD that they got rid off of defragging for us, Redmond would have never done a file system intelligent enough to not frag by default ! Scoggs Posted May 9, 2015 Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) Very close to buying the Rog Swift again! I've been here a few times over the last year or so. The only thing putting me off is the thought of things like this becoming more affordable short term... Thoughts any body? I have the Acer XB270HU. It is pretty nice, haven't tried DCS with it yet though (Waiting on EDGE). I went from the ASUS PB278Q 1440p IPS monitor to the Acer, there is way less ghosting and no smearing, at least as far as I can tell. The G-Sync is cool I guess. Being able to run with no V-Sync and having literally no tearing at all is a nice feature. However, in the games that do run at 144Hz on my computer, I don't really feel any difference to my old 60Hz monitor... but when I play at 60Hz it feels choppy lol. If you have the money I say go for it! But otherwise, just wait. I am sure there will be better alternatives in the next few months/year EDIT: Guess I should say that there are a couple dead pixels on my Acer monitor. But they seem to have gone away so I don't see them. There is a little IPS backlight bleed but nothing major. Colors are nice and overall I would recommend this monitor to anyone that can afford to drop $800 on a monitor lol. I also run the TFT Central color calibrations, but have the brightness at 35. BitMaster Posted May 10, 2015 Author Posted May 10, 2015 little update: Gsync only works between 50 and 144 Hz, which is the vertical refresh rate band of the screen. If fps drops below 50 Gsync will npot be able to work properly as stated on 3DGuru.com, and I think that is true. I can, with ExtremeVis Mod enabled, force the card to 25fps if I want to, fly low over Adler, vis set to Extreme, all other s maxed and there u get stuck with 25-40 fps for as long as you keep that view/scene. I guess it is a CPU limit and not GPU related, draw calls ,maybe I dunno.. The visible effect is that when it really drops way below 50 that there is some tear etc.. maybe less than normal, but u can "feel" it. Usually, the game is way above 50 fps in all scenes when i fly online in combat, VAS is different as many AC fly close together etc.. combat servers dont have that in that extend usually. Some other Gsync screens go down to thirty-something Hz as lower end of the band and thuis may work even at 33 fps etc... Check the data sheet, Gsync and Free Sync BOTH only work inside thew vert. Refresh Rate. So there is a reason why we could add a 2nd card for SLI if the GPU is the limit. I think for 1440p any single 980 is plenty, it's the CPU that will get flooded, not foremost the GPU when you drop that low over Adler imho. Yeah I would wait in that case. I am sure other manufacturers will start pushing out things to compete.
