OK.... what the heck am I doing wrong? (radio issues)

Hey everyone,

I just bought this awesome plane a few days ago and I absolutely love it. It's exactly what I want out of a simulator... except for one huge (to me) problem.

I follow the checklists and tutorials to a tee, yet I can't manage to get the ATC to talk to me! I have fired up the radio, have changed the frequency to my location, and nothing. I can talk to ground crew to get the power on, (even though they're blacked out,) but I can't get clearance to start my engines, or after I start them, I can't get clearance to taxi/takeoff, etc.

It's a real bummer and I know I'm doing something very simple and very wrong. Can anyone help me with this? The simmer in me will not allow myself to take off, or even move from the ramp without clearance. I just can't bring myself to do it!

Thanks very much.

Have you used the kneeboard to get the freq for each airbase? RCtrl+Up Arrow opens it and RCtrl+R or L Arrow cycles the pages. There's a radio freq page that lists most airfields. Set your radio to that freq.

Sometimes they just refuse to listen all together for me too though...

Thanks very much for the reply.

Yeah, I've been using the frequencies in the kneeboard. They just don't talk back? I've tried it on fast missions, the campaign, everything.

The only time it works is when I'm in the tutorial. It's really bumming me out.

I have to know which runway to taxi to at least!

You can do it! I know you can! ATC are just bullies. Don't give them the pleasure of bossing you around...

(sorry, I can't be of help)

I noticed that sometimes the radio pre-sets are completely messed up...

ARIES can display the frequency and sometimes this frequency is completely random and not according to the kneeboard or mission editor. Like 132.000 becomes 142.975.

I also noticed that if you don't have the Mig-21 installed, you can not edit frequencies in the ME. Could it be that a Mig-21 placed by someone without the Mig-21 installed messes up the frequencies?

when you prefer to work with the sighting equipment and avionics, you will find a big disappointment.

10 should be the right frequency for Kutaisi - yes.

Do you also have the right sector selected?

It´s the panel to the left of the channel selector with numbers from 1-9

It could sound like the problem I reported a good while ago. It affects most of the missions that ships with the module. The fix is to open them in the editor, make a minor change an saving it again.

See this thread for elaboration: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130537

These sound like they could be real possibilities.

Thanks a lot everyone!

The channel selector panel golani mentioned is for radio-compass operation only, so that's not it. Sounds more like the issue mentioned by cruiser, although most (if not all) instant and single missions have been fixed in recent patches and should be working allright (I've no idea about campaign though).

My first thought was conflict with TrackIR (or some other background Windows app) assignments, but if You say tutorial missions are OK, then I'm lost. What about quick missions made in mission builder?

Something might got fudged in Your install.

Hmm, they made a change to the radio recently that may be the cause of the problem now that I think about it.

Before I only needed to press my ' button (next to enter) to activate the radio, but since a recent update I now have to use Right ALT + ' to get the proper radio.
