gaspuch62 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I'm asking this question more out of my own curiosity, but some may find the answer useful. I use track IR, and I don't know what I'd do without it in some situations. It's especially useful in the Dora since the gun sight is off center and I would imagine that makes using it tricky without some kind of head tracking.
HugePanic Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 some people just use the mouse for looking. with middle-mouse-btn you can move your head around in the cockpit. works perfectly on the Dora and much more precise with any HMD (e.g. KA-50).

FYI, the default '5' key centre view command for the Dora and 109k are both off centre and aligned with the sight. So for people like me, we can mouse look around all we like, then just reset our view point when we're about to shoot. Not quite as easy as track-ir or the like, but perfectly doable. Or, because the sights on the Dora and Kurfurst are simple and don't lead/lag, just keep the view centred and learn not to rely on them. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
CASoldier2014 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 You need to set up a custom view or a custom snap view: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129259 or http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Snap_views but this might not help... Just set your camera where you want it by moving it left/right/up/down with Rshift + Rctrl + *;/;8;4;6;2 etc. and press Win key + any Num key to select a snap view and press Ralt + Num0 to save it. Then bind your joystick key to the Num key that you earlier selected under settings and voila! ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

gavagai Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 The default view has the gunsight lined up. Easy to answer this question by starting up DCS without trackir running.:book: Trackir is tons of fun, but some of the best virtual pilots I have had the pleasure to fight do not use it. Art-J Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Is there a simple way to have the default view lined up with the fuselage centerline even when I'm using TrackIR? It's not a big deal, but still, a bit annoying at times, watching my virtual pilot suffering from permanent right-scoliosis, but only in German planes :D. Are the snap views and/or editing some .lua files the only way to fix it? i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Crumpp Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 With Track IR, I just lean forward and it lines up as well as zooms the view inward. Answers to most important questions ATC can ask that every pilot should memorize: 1. No, I do not have a pen. 2. Indicating 250
jponti Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 How i can restore the default pilost position after save a custom one (Ralt + Num0)??
marcus4hire Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Here is what I do and how I do it: No Track IR (yet) The default forward view is slightly off center and behind the sight. In the 109 it is as well and when you flip the sight down you automatically re-center with the cockpit. Now then, on my stick I have the hat. It is programmed with each direction looking that way (e.g. hat left, look left). I use one button next to my hat to return to center. So, I can look wherever I want, click a button, and swing back forward. No snap views. Never used them. To confusing and give me a headache. Also use another button around my hat for zoom in and another for zoom out. I am running a Logitech Wingman Extreme3D Pro and a Saitek X52 throttle. I have the Saitek stick that goes with it but never liked it. Had tons of trouble with the spring catching and it just never felt comfy in my hand. Now the Wingman? Cheap, sure. But I am having a full on love affair with that thing. I will say the Saitek is tons more forgiving. You can't whip the Wingman around but it keep you honest, too. Anyway, I'm rambling. The point is, you can do most everything in one of the DCS WWII aircraft with a HOTAS with plenty of buttons left over. In A to A or A to G I never find myself wanting for another button and I can takeoff and land with no keyboard as well.

It's especially useful in the Dora since the gun sight is off center and I would imagine that makes using it tricky without some kind of head tracking. I have TrackIR 5, I have never liked it. For me it is too disorienting. But I also survived a cerebral brain hemorrhage 13 years ago, so there's that. If you know how to create custom Snapviews and I do, you can permanently recenter the gunsight as your---MY neutral, NumPad #5 view. I also have custom "Check-Six" views back over my tail. I wrote up a how-to, titled "Custom Snap Views" recently. See Message #4 : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2359014#post2359014 My CH Pro Throttle's HAT 4-way has views: Up, Down, Left, Right. Another 4-way has: Zoom In, Zoom Out, Zoom normal, NumPad #5. My CH Fighterstick's HAT 4-way has: Move Head Up, Down, Left, Right. That is how I do all the DCS aircraft I own in my inventory. Works for me. Also, if I do use my Track IR 5, I set two buttons on my controllers for Track IR, within the Track IR setup for - Center - and - Pause - . In Pause, essentially the TIR5 is turned off, I then can use my HAT assignments above that bypass the Track IR. I do this in the DCS aircraft I have and two other online sims I fly with. Now, my dogfighting skills really suck, which is probably due to old age and slower reflex time and spacial disorientation due to brain damage. Just a 1/4 or 1/2 second blink accumulated a few times is enough to lose a fight. But I don't care, even losing a fight is still fun. Winning is more fun, though...
