Is it me or the radio is on the fritz again with the latest update (1.2.15)? I set the batteries ON, radio AZS ON, Switch from ICS set to Radio, choose AM, set the correct frequency on the radio panel and when I contact ATC, no one is home. In 1.2.14 it was working.

You need to enable the gas station "SPU-7" gas station "command. RS" switch "SPU-RADIO" on the subscriber unit SPU-7 to "RADIO" mode switch "AM-FM" to "AM", switch ZU- OU dialer to (OU). Set the frequency of the airfield. "\" - Cause of the radio menu. Everything works!

Here it is in images. As you can see, after I set everything, I still get that black line and ATC does not respond. Both aircraft and airport belong the the same Red faction (Russian). In 1.2.14 it was working.

Wow, I've never seen the radio menu look like that - I don't have frequencies listed next to the airfield name, or the fact that they're neutral... is this some mod? If so, have you tried disabling it?

I just tried contacting ATC and it worked fine. I turned batteries on, radio and intercom AZS on, ICS-Radio to Radio, modulation to AM and the right frequency and it worked.

What happens when you set both inverters to Automatic, instead of having the 115vac set to manual (or is it off)? I always set my inverters both to automatic.

It shouldn't make any difference (unless its off), but we're bug hunting, and that's a difference between what you're doing, and what I'm doing, and the electrical system is kind of buggy.

Practice makes perfect.

I have no mod installed. It's a completly clean DCS. This is how it always appeared on my sim.

Actually the position of inverters doesn't make any difference to the R-863, since it runs off DC power only.

115VAC is on Manual during startup. After I switch on both generators and all 3 Rectifiers, I switch 115V and 36V to Auto.

And radio still doesn't work with 115/36 on AUTO, OFF or MANUAL.

I noticed that on the Radio Source panel, the switch automaticly moves from R-863 (YKB) to JADRO (CP) position whenever I request something like engine start up.

Converters 115/36 for connecting radio station p-863 is not necessary to include.

You must be some mistake in the game, try to restore or reinstall DСS. Сall manager should be like on my photo on the menu of the radio visible inscription - "P-863".

I have reinstalled Windows about 2 weeks ago. DCS has been reinstalled from ground up. For the other modules that I own, ATC works. This is the only module that has issues with ATC.

No need to reinstall Windovs. Start Menu computer folder Eagle Dynamics, DCS World, third line from the top Restore DCS Vorld.See photo above.DKS during installation can be established with an error.

It was working well with 1.2.14. But since I updated to 1.2.15 it doesn't work. I don't want to be rude, but since there were bugs often introduced with almost every update, I suspect that this is a new bug that came with 1.2.15. It is a little frustrating.

You do not hear me! This problem only you! Try to restore the game and everything will be fine!

After reading this thread, I finally decided to learn how to use radio in Mi-8.

Press, something got fudged in Your install, because I got the radio going allright on my first attempt. I flipped the switches mostly as You showed on Your screenshots on previous page (the only difference was turning both inverters and all circuit breakers on, because I was going to fly the chopper anyway), turned the frequency selector accordingly to the value read from mission editor (I didn't even switch Sochi airport colour to my side), used the Alt+\ button (the R863 menu showed up) and connected to ATC without problems.

That was a quick mission though, I don't know If it works in campaign, 'cause I've never played it.

Art-J, thanks man. I solved the problem with your post. No need to reinstall DCS or Mi-8 module.

For radio transmisions until 1.2.14 I used the "\" key to contact ATC and it worked. Seems that with the new 1.2.15 it changed. If I use "RAlt+\" I can contact ATC and it responds.

I installed dcs world + modules again after a clean installation of win 10 and now i got the problem that i can open the communication menu on ground but if i take of i can't open it anymore. Has anybody a idea what i'm doing wrong because 2 weeks ago everything worked just fine.

Sounds like an control assignments problem rather than Win10 problem. No matter if You were trying to copy Your old ctrl config from previous "Saved Games" folder or setting up keys again, double check if You're bringing up the "R863" radio menu and not "intercom" (or whatever it's called) one.

Thank you very much! I did a clean installation of dcs, no copy and paste of old config. But i did assign the wrong control entry. I used "Communication menu", which works perfectly in the FC3 aircrafts but not in the MI 8. After looking through the list of key mappings, after your suggestion, i found "Radio trigger Radio" and with this entry everything works just fine, thank you again. :)

I finally figured out how to talk to the tower, but now I've noticed that I only get one shot at it. When I press the ALT+\ the first time it works as it should, displaying the 863 radio on the top of the menu. But, any further attempts result in only the intercom display at top of menu. This has to be a glitch!

Okay, after an hour of playing around, I figured out the bug, per-say.

There's two confusing things going on:

1) In Easy Communications mode, the system is changing R-863 channels, however, the changed channels do NOT show up on the selector, so there's a definite mismatch there. (On aircraft like the L-39C, with Easy Communications, the selector knob changes to match who you are contacting automatically)

2) The simulator default on the R-863 control panel in the center console defaults to manual mode, and Easy Communications doesn't override that setting! Therefore, if you don't switch this switch, you can only contact on on 127.5 (or whatever the manual dial is currently set to). Furthermore, Easy Communications will not adjust the manual dial either.

With both of the above figured out, the minimal workflow required to talk to Kobuleti (for example) is:

1. upper right: battery 1 - ON

2. overhead right: fuse RADIO: SPU (Intercom) - ON

3. overhead right: fuse RADIO: CMND (R-863) - ON

4. overhead left: switch from ICS to Radio

5. overhead left: switch command radio to AM

6. center console: select PRESETS

7. dial channel to 10 (Kobuleti, defaults to 133MHz)

8. contact tower

success!

I figured out my problem with the sim radio, pilot error. It turns out that if you turn on the "Microphone Power Switch" (aka -Laryngophone) on the co-pilot's right triangular panel the R-863 stops working. Not sure if this is documented or not...
