So my warthog stick is dead. The female DIN connector is bent and somehow one of the wires inside is cut. So there is me crying because I'm not sure what to do. Contacted TM and got new parts coming. I need to take all of it apart de-solder some of the cables and solder new ones on replace the din connector and reapply the grease and put it all back together. Never ever done anything like this before but what have i got to loose ? This shall be fun. I'll post some pictures below and will keep you updated as and when stuff happens ..... Wish me luck haha! :helpsmilie::lol:

So a little update on whats going on. Whilst I wait for the arrival of new parts and the equipment I decided to take the hog base apart completely and clean it ready to be greased up when I fix it. Of course if I do manage to fix it haha.

First one is with the female DIN being off to the side.

Second is a broken wire and another one is completely cut off (not in the picture)

Last one is the hog taken apart completely only missing screws... and the actual stick of course. and base plate.

Rajdary thanks :) will need it.

Take it slow, replacing a few solder joints on a DIN is better than dropping another $300 on a new unit.

The bent pin can be re-aligned with a screwdriver no problem, I've done it a couple of times. The wire cut, and then soldered and protected with a shrink-sleeve.

It's a sturdy unit, and every last bit can be replaced with off the shelf parts, even without TM parts.

I have my warthog disassembled to the least bit, if you get stuck, take a picture, I'll be glad to help..

Bent pins can also be straightened with a mechanical pencil, if the pin diameter is small enough. You can slip the tube of the pencil over the pin and then pull it up straight.

Luckily drafting pencils come in .3, .5, .7 and .9mm sizes. One of the best tricks in the book.

Being old enough to have done drafting on vellum instead of a computer is useful sometimes. :D

They should. They would have shipped it to me but I only live twenty minutes from the store so picking it up was practical. :)

As for pins, was it the pin or the socket?

I'm sorry to hear about your warthog problem, being a warthog owner I can sympathize. But I am impressed with the help and tips and it does make you feel good to know that if you have a problem there are so many willing to pass along their knowledge and expertise.

Not sure what you mean here.

Hi,

I had to do this after some wires got pinched off after i re greased it.

i actually found it was easier to re grease the ball, put it together like it would be on the base, wrap the new wire in heat shrink, with the ground wire, thread this through the ball from underneath,(avoids the possibility of it getting pinched again) re solder the pin connector and screw it back in, then attach it to the board. The biggest part was remembering where each wire connected to the pin connector.I did it one at a time.

Bummer. If you aren't used to [de]soldering on PCBs, pick up some junk electronics somewhere to practice on. Or just repair the cable in-line as was suggested earlier. What tools are you planning on using?

Not sure.if inline repair would.work. depending on how and where it was cut.
