Pilotasso Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 (edited) Mad max Fury road How to define this movie? Well, most movies have a start that builds up leading to the meaty part in the middle with the action and an ending to wrap it all up. mad max, will, give you the meaty part alright, with plenty sauce (made out of humans) from minute one to the very end. The plot is simplistic, and provides a very basic background (read: excuse) for the immense car chases. The main characters are Imperator Furiosa, and Nux, the first seeking home and the later redemption. Of course that couldn't happen without a villain, so theres one in it it too! ;) Max himself makes flatulent noises about 6 times in the entire movie to make himself noticed (basically) so that the title has his name in it, and that kinda made me a sad panda. Mel Gibson probably shed blood tears. The image below pretty much sums it up: note: the quote on the poster isn't Max's either! How do you spell a flatulent sound? pros -great action -very imaginative depiction of hell on earth -visually gorgeous -minimal GCI (if you discount the sandstorm part) -musical soundtrack (beware: don't expect cheerful melodies full of chirping birds and girls dancing in the wind!) -dat electric guitar! Cons -character development where is it? -Mad max himself barely makes himself noticeable, and struggles to make up for a secondary role. -barely a plot to speak of. -adds nothing to the original trilogy (has to be said: either it would make the movie simply great, or could ruin the saga beyond repair phantom menace style, nothing in between and they choose the lower risk approach) -Was expecting Max's last V8 interceptor to play a role as well. points: 7/10 entertains in a Friday night without being remarkable (should have been) trailer: woHTUsl66BY Edited May 19, 2015 by Pilotasso .
leafer Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I'm surprised u could hear farts in the badlands. Anyway, this is an action movie where thick plot and character arc aren't necessary. I'm glad it's fun, Ima fan of Charlize since 2 Days In The Valley. Yes, glad Mel aint in it. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

leafer Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I honest cannot wait to see this one. Not sure how my wife and kids will feel about it though. lol I wish someone would make a movie from Robert Mccammon's Swansong. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

ED Team NineLine Posted May 21, 2015 ED Team Posted May 21, 2015 Being an Aussie I was raised on Mad Max and totally obsessed with the 3 films. This movie is much better than any of the originals IMHO. That makes me want to see it more now :) I absolutely loved the original movies, although I dont go out of my way for Thunderdome... [DBS]TH0R Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 By far the best visual effects movie, in large due to the fact CGI was kept to the minimum. Great acting and overall attention to details, while on the other hand simple and straightforward not trying to "re-invent the wheel". How action movies should be done. I respectfully disagree: - character progression or development is there (Nux being most obvious) - true, but not different from the first three (well perhaps in the first one he was a leading role, I'll have to watch it again) - similar to the second one (which this one resembles the most) - none of the first three had much in common except Mad Max (in the second and third one the same actor plays a different character who operates a flying machine) - agreed, infinitesimal amount of his car shots I recommend watching RedLetterMedia's review, pretty much spot. Pilotasso Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 It was still a good movie, my review was much affected by my expectations built upon the original trilogy (to me one of those trilogies high up there on par with Star wars and Indiana jones). The others who didn't see them wont be as critic and likely will be pleased by the eccentricity of this one. .
Pilotasso Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 That makes me want to see it more now :) I absolutely loved the original movies, although I dont go out of my way for Thunderdome... But don't build a too high expectation before seeing it. Your eyes will feast though. That's assured. .
ED Team NineLine Posted May 21, 2015 ED Team Posted May 21, 2015 But don't build a too high expectation. Your eyes will feast though. That's assured. Of course, say what you will about Gibson, whenever someone assumes someone else's role, its always gonna be different... not to mention when the original movies came out I was younger and less jaded :D Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

FlyingHighAU Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) I just came back from the cinemas. Overall it was a pretty good movie. I do agree that the plot was certainly there for the car carnage, but more than anything to be a vessel for commentary on society, with the events and characters in the film being metaphors for the current state of affairs. While there isn't much to spoil, you'll certainly enjoy the movie more without reading the below. But I'd interested to see if anyone that has seen the movie agrees :) The metaphors which I saw quite clearly were: Immortan Joe's rule symbolising societies oppression of women, the religious brainwashing of children and how the unwashed masses (here literally) are kept stupid and poor for the benefit of powerful. The war boys obviously being a reference not only to ISIS but also to western society where it is expected that men act like traditional men being aggressive instead of smart, and fighting instead of thinking. The gasoline city was a metaphor for capitalism and greed, and I thought it was a nice touch having the main leader be played by the actor John Howard, who shares the same name in real life with Australia's unpopular ex Prime Minister PM John Howard who is known for his capitalistic policies that hurt the common folk but make the rich richer.(Using this actor to portray this ex Prime Minister has been done a few times in the past too and is a bit of a running joke). The bullet farm and specifically the leader was a commentary on the military and how it is used to (again literally in the movie) blindly hand out justice, even at the expense of those who it is trying to protect, and as you would expect it was a little trigger happy...... Max and Furiosa representing us as people and encouraging us to put our selfish needs aside be brave and fight, to stand up against the rich powerful which are so determined to exploit the common person to the very last drop. Like parents or teachers Max and Furious were there to also guide the princesses and help them understand that they are capable to stand up for themselves in the real world. At the end instead of running away from their problems they face them head on and save change the city for the better - they do the hard thing but the right thing. The older free women were there to portray mothers and their instincts and abilities to fight for themselves and their children and their rights. EDIT: I really loved the fact that there was very little CGI. The fighting and action was done in a interesting way, making sense and not just action for action's sake. It's not my favorite movie of all time(I enjoyed Mad Max 2 : Road Warrior more) but it's easily movie of the year, possibly of the decade and much better than the typical cookie cutter computer scripted rubbish hollywood manufacturers every few months. GO SEE IT! Edited May 23, 2015 by FlyingHighAU
