That Panther appears to be in pristine condition, Panther G by the looks of it as well. They need to throw that in a museum, presuming the rather wealthy owner doesn't sue and reclaim it if it has inactivated weaponry.

As Sith said... leave it to him. Everybody in the village was aware of his hobby. His weapons were officially confirmed as "demillitarized".

The leading state prosecutor has to push his political career so what seems better to find an 78 year old "Nazi" with a whole bunch of war weapons in his house...

To avoid misunderstandings: This old man is a collector, was never suspicious to be a Nazi the last 60 years.

What a find! Hope the guy gets the stuff back - what a gyp!

I cannot imagine the guy leaving this stuff to his grand-nephew or something!

I daresay the state would have got the stuff eventually.

It also says he was driving it around in 1978 in the snow according to local residents.

If it is all de-militarised as the report says, the prosecutor concerned will be landed with a hefty bill, and of course he'll have to put it all back where he found it too!

I dont understand this new age culture of being so anti war trophies. Let the man keep it to much lawyers involved in everything these days...

Well on the plus these things will now go to a museum where they will likely get restored.

But charging the man is just wrong IMO, unless of course he was storing fully functional weapons (esp. if he had live ammo as well) without any permission.

They took away his registered firearms as well because of the panther and 8,8 his reliability is in question.

Personal reliability and a clean criminal record is a requirrement to have arms in gernamy. The slightes trouble with authorities and you loose it all.

Since the man is quite weathy and must have had a lot of influence before retirement I reckon this is a personal vendetta of soem city officials

Well if said pieces of equipment are still fully functional then he would be breaking the law, as I'm quite sure owning a fully functional AT gun isn't legal - let alone two of them if we count the one on the Panther ^^

Now here's a fun twist (not for the previous owner, apparently).

Gutachten: Heikendorfer Panzer ist Kriegswaffe (Expertise: Tank from Heikendorf is weapon of war).

Excerpts, my translation:

The world war tank that the Bundeswehr [German Armed Forces] had salvaged from a villa basement early July had apparently not been properly demilitarized and is thus considered a weapon of war. According to the prosecution, a subject-matter expertise is now available. But a few years ago, the Bundeswehr had come to another conclusion.

[...]

According to the Bundeswehr, the latter was the case: The MOD confirmed that members of military engineering services had helped to remove the tank's engine and restore it. The tank had definitely been demilitarized, according to a spokesman. The Bundeswehr had charged the collector over 28,000 Euros for the restoration. The city of Kiel prosecution now conveyed that, according to an expertise, no proper demilitarization of the tank according to pertinent guidelines could be found. They also said no proper documentation for possession was found.

(Some of the legalese is as bad in the original as it is in my translation).

Hrm, that also means that the officials knew for a long time already that at least the tank was there. And suddenly they come up just these days with the idea, hey, why not confiscate it!
