Curved Monitors?

Anyone using a curved monitor to play DCS? Just want to get your opinion on it. Is it more immersive?

id say a curved screen would be if it was 55 inch or bigger. Or a projector

yeah, $800+ for that screen, I've seen it in person at local shop, it's really wide, but it's not that tall.

Which is my big issue with all of the ultra-wide screens. My U2711 (2560x1440), is taller and that screen adds only 4 inches on each side over the 2711. I really want a monitor like that, not just for flight sims, but it needs to be larger.

Coming from a 27 16:9, it is really more immersive. As far as I know this the best Monitor for playing DCS right now...if you want big, you should go with a TV. Light bleed in the corners? Just a little but not in DCS, only when the screen is totally black. If you don't care about thunderbolt you can also choose this one: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y09G6JG/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=. It's the same without thunderbolt.

 

I was scouting for 3 months and LG is the best in image quality as far as I could see in the reviews.

 

GTX 780ti and 8 Core Extreme, for 60fps...well the 8 Core is not necessary but the 780ti is the bare minimum for 3440x1440.

Keep in mind, he is speaking about TV view distance, not computer monitor viewing distance. Seated close enough, the artifacts he sees should not be an issue. I am not advocating the value of the curve, since I haven't actually used one, just pointing out the difference.

 

On a similar note, I think the LG curved phone is the silliest thing I have ever seen. :)

* would a GTX 970 have enough oomph to drive it?

* Does DCS support QHD (3440x1440)?

* Would DCS fill the screen both horizontally and vertically, without black bars?

Keep in mind that the monitor you are consider is the equivalent of adding only about 6 inches, on the left and right, to a standard monitor. That is a far cry from what you would have with three monitors.

Well he does not want more than one monitor, so the only other option would be VR I suppose. :)

I was just pointing out that it is not a great deal wider. Projection would be another option, though not necessarily cheaper.

Depending on your GPU, you could have a look at the Acer Predator curved gaming monitor, which comes in both Freesync and Gync versions.

 

However, both Acers' display WHQD.

 

I am probably going to get a flat 4k/5K (UHD) version with Gsync, rather than the lower res of the curved versions, perhaps from Dell, like the UP3214Q.

 

I like the curved effect, but dislike the low resolution.

Curved game monitors make sense since you are close enough. Same reason why I put a angle on my side monitors in a triple screen setup.

The only issue I have with that idea, with regard to the curved monitor, is that when you angle your side displays, you are making it so that the distance from the center of all of the screens is approximately equal.

 

I the case of a curved monitor, the correct (best) eyepoint would be at the center point defined by the radius of the curve. That point is much farther back than most people sit.

Some curve is better than none. My monitor stand won't let me go anywhere near the angle needed for a perfect setup. I think at most I have a 20deg angle on the sides.

I recently changed from a 2x 24" setup to a single 34" ultrawide curved.

 

The difference is not huge, but not having to move my head too much and also no screen borders between the two screens is very good IMO.

 

I've got the Samsung S34E970, and the TM MFD Cougar just fits under the screen too. :thumbup:

I just saw the HP Envy Curved all-in-one PC with a huge 34 inch screen. What do you think, how does DCS looks with this big screen and does the graphic card (Nvidia GeForce 960A graphics) is ok for playing DCS in high resolution?

For that resolution you need really fast CPU and GPU.

I have 60 stable fps with my config, but not everywhere.

So given the chance again would you still buy the Dell 34" over say the standard 32" ?

 

I'm looking into either Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor vs Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 4K Monitor... i've moved away from the idea of 3 monitors and instead looking at one big one. I tried a 40" but that was too big lol

I also got the Dell 34 curved and very pleased with that. Gives great view and you can change FOV like in said post. In fact, you can also adjust FOV so you get the feeling as if there is more cockpit around you.

Just try and play with different settings for different planes.
