Wait, no public Open Conflict Teamspeak server yet?

Dont forget I am alone doing Open Conflict and I dont have the bandwith or the funds to espand the server like I would like.

CrimsonGhost was nice enough to host an unofficial ts server and people are using this one.

Link is in first post and everywhere ingame.

Really had an exellent time flying the past days with my FW190, and I hope that the prop plane virus that infected me got some other people too NASA at least. :thumbup:

I know that you are running out of slots, and I think your idea with additional FARPs at the airports seems pretty good.

I got two little requests for the FW190, first it would be nice to have a non-duel slot for redfor, and second i'd like to have the Oblt. Hans Dortenmann for it.

Keep up the good work!

Awesome! maybe you can put the first post teamspeak adress as actual TS3 adres? like this (copy this code)

Thanks for the tip.

Concerning Combined Arms, I have these roles identified in Skynet:

roleDisplayNames['instructor'] = 'Game Master' -- 1

roleDisplayNames['artillery_commander'] = 'Tactical Cmdr' -- 2

roleDisplayNames['forward_observer'] = 'JTAC' -- 3

roleDisplayNames['observer'] = 'Observer' -- 4

Which one would be interesting for Open Conflict?

I guess some of them would need drivable units somewhere to be interesting? Or does these slots are enough by themselves?

Can you CA players give me more information about this mystery that is Combined Arms?

Thanks

I'm by no means a CA expert and don't own the module but from what I've learned from scouring the forums is:

• Ground Commanders control all types of friendly ground forces.

• JTACs provide unique features to designate ground targets for close air support. (coloured smoke, programmable visible and IR lasers etc)

• Game Masters see and control all units from both sides.

• Observers can view all of the action, but not direct any units.

so for OC purposes I think game masters are not a good idea because they can see every unit both ground and air on both teams, which would be too easy to abuse and/or possibly break stuff. Similarly the observer slot could be used for 'ghosting' and act as live, super accurate AWACs for his friends in TS/Skype/whatever. That being said your idea of restricting the slots to trusted people/on request would probably help mitigate the ghosting and other abuse.

Now the flipside, in my opinion JTAC could be extremely useful for OC. Several of the objectives (the spec ops incursions are notorious for this :P) become very difficult to complete because one infantry unit or small truck gets hidden in a forest or next to/inside a building and becomes quite tricky to spot. A JTAC would be able to help find these sneaky breeky units using their night vision, thermal optics and binoculars and designate them with lasers/smoke to help the flyboys out. On top of that they can generally be useful for attacking objectives by designating high priority targets like SAMS/AAA so that attackers can kill the right targets first. The cameras on the A10A/SU25T aren't very high definition and picking out the Gepard from an APC can be tricky at range so they'd be a massive bonus :thumbup:

Ground commanders are kind of a tricky one IMO. I think it could be really cool for the deep assault convoy's path to be changed by a player to help protect it and maybe cause some combined arms missions if the DAC can get close enough to an opposite objective like the artillery base, A10s roll in and nail the enemy MBTs with mavericks and the tanks roll in to clear up the arty/AAA. Or similarly having the convoy take a certain route where it can be escorted by mistral gazelles and other choppers could be neat. That being said, I think ground commanders can control/move certain ships and so that would need to be restricted if moving ships are as hellish in MP as you say they are! The Tuapse objective could also be cleared out by the ground forces artillery, though I don't know if the M109s can kill the little corvettes. could be interesting that one...

Just my 2 cents, as I do more research I will provide more info :) fairly certain some of the regulars own CA so their input would be greatly appreciated!

Pestering won't help the server grow faster or the features ship faster ; on the contrary.

As a DCS player, I am sure you are used to wait 4 years for a features.

Supporting the server however will help make it faster, better and stronger like Kanye West said.

thanks for the update mirknir! I will be testing out the new beefed up Tuapse objective later today and will report back the results!

Also speaking of ships, are the Moscow cruisers that protect the refuelling tankers immortal or not? NASA, Dust and I discovered that the SU25T's KH-58 missiles OUTRANGE the Moscow at altitude and was curious whether a dedicated team of SU25Ts could destroy the cruiser (provided the missiles make it though their crazy OP CIWS systems!)

Because they are part of the whole blue fleet defense group, they are immortal but it could be changed.

It also on my list to check moving ships and respawning ships and how it fares in MP.

I'm totaly aware that some of you might laugh about this question but I'm really don't know what is my task nor what to do when I'm on the server.

Even the F10 Menu does not raise the curtain for me.

What does the objectives mean? Attack or defend them?

Thanx in advance.

There's no such thing as a daft question :)

all objectives listed using the F10 menu (F10-F6 for ground and F10-F7 for air) are enemy objectives for you to attack. The white bars tell you the current health of the objectives, the more white bars, the more live targets left at that objective.

Stationary objectives are marked with 3 coloured smoke markers (red for redfor, blue for blufor) in a triangle around the object to aid detection, however the convoys and sea objectives must be detected on your own.

You can defend your objectives, but they aren't marked on the F10 menu so you have to find them using the F10 map, usually not hard - look for the clusters of ground units.

Any other questions don't hesitate to ask, I'm often in the teamspeak as well under 'Cosmicdoubloon (Chris)' so hit me up any time I'm on and I'll happily walk you through any aspect of open conflict :)

How much money have you donated to mirknir?

None YET, but how much does it cost Mirknir every month to host the server?

Hi Mirknir, just noticed that both tankers have the same callsign 'texaco' with no simple way to discern which is which. Could we have the callsign for one of them changed so that we can tell which tanker we are hailing?

Thought I would share this epic story from tonight's session with you all, sorry for the long essay of a post below!

Well then, I decided to try out the new Tuapse objective today. I attacked it a few times on my own in the SU25T and discovered that, regardless of what weapon I threw at it, the Resky's missiles and CIWS (with the Molynia in support) was too tough to punch through. Frustrated, I assembled the team...

hVkfi57.jpg

Bert and NASA volunteered as tribute to the DCS Gods and joined me in my intrepid mission to free the port of Tupase from the sneeky breeky Ruskies. We loaded up the super long ranged KH-58 missiles with a mix of KH25MPU and KH-25ML in case those weren't enough. Heading out we formed an arrowhead formation and activated our ECM to both confuse the ships' air defence and also as a protective screen for our fighter escorts, consisting of an SU27 and an F15 up at altitude.

LcjGRPA.jpg

We made our way to the coast and turned towards Tuapse. Once we got set up I took NASA on the quickest SU25 SEAD tutorial known to man and we were soon ready to launch our assault.

Ks5bCD7.jpg

Soon we had the pesky Resky locked up and launched a carefully timed volley of the gargantuan KH-58s at our target, and pressed forward to follow it up with a barrage of KH25MPUs. As we closed to range of the secondary missiles our RWRs lit up, the Resky was returning fire! soon white smoke from our missiles and theirs filled the air as a precarious game of chicken commenced. We would fire a volley, the ships would intercept some of the missiles and fire back, we would retreat and set up to fire again.

76k7x7k.jpg

Eventually the sheer volume of missiles proved too much for the naval CIWS systems, and Bert claimed the first Resky trophy for the regulars :thumbup:

Of course this wouldn't be Open Conflict if we weren't then ambushed by SU27s using datalink whilst darting through the rolling hills! NASA was hit by an R27ET, and Bert was being locked on whilst we retreated. Noticing I wasn't being locked, I quickly turned round and, with the help of AWACS, sped straight towards the flight of SU27s. AWACS sent the dreaded 'Merged' message and suddenly my hud was filled with a rapidly approaching fighter and, with a flick of my plane's nose to put the seeker on target, he learned why R73s and afterburners are best friends :thumbsup:

Thinking we were in the clear I turned to join Bert for the trip home, only to spot the unmistakable trail of a Russian missile speeding towards Bert! He frantically pumped flares and the missile thankfully slammed into a nearby hill. Lining up my final R73 I put the second SU27 in my pipper and prayed. Finally good tone! Fox 2! The 27 attempts to flare it off but to no avail. Two air to air kills for this Frogfoot! :pilotfly:

But there's no rest for the weary. Now totally Winchester my RWR started beeping frantically, a THIRD SU27 was on top of us! First missile ate chaff, second followed suit, but despite mine and Bert's best efforts, the third slammed into my right wing and I was forced to eject. Bert then frantically entered a turnfight with the offending fighter, throwing off R73 after R73 with his IR jammer and well timed flares. Finally he gets tone, Fox 2! But the missile never left the rail! His energy exhausted, the SU27 cut his turning circle short and gunned him down. 3 SU25Ts lost, but we proved that the Resky is tough, just not 'that' tough ;)

TLDR, the new Tuapse objective is awesome, the perfect level of difficulty to encourage teamwork :thumbup:

Well cosmic if you ever make fun of me for posting stories of sorties I will be very mad!:D

Looks like I've been missing out! However I do see a sale on DCS, are my F190 pilot actively flying their warbirds?! If so should I buy the p51 so we can have open conflict warbird parties this week?!

You have to use a command to pick him up.

Either using the radio menu:

F10 Menu ▶ Rescue ▶ Pick-up downed pilot

Or using the chat command:

Type '-re load'
