Coxy_99 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Im not sure if its ever been discussed maybe yes, Has eagle dynamics looked into world war one aircraft, With the northern france map being made surely aircraft and units would be very basic, But would anybody buy these kind of modules? Have ED ever looked into it?
sobek Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Probably a bit hard to get data on those old airframes. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

ED Team NineLine Posted September 16, 2015 ED Team Posted September 16, 2015 Probably a bit hard to get data on those old airframes. Actually when I was looking for 109 and 190 data from some of the German Wind Tunnel facilities, I was surprised to see so many reports on the WWI stuff... I think its pretty reasonable to find if you wanted to put in the effort... that said, I havent heard anything out of the ED camp that they are remotely interested in WWI. Maybe a 3rd party someday though as this topic comes up every couple months. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
cichlidfan Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 A DCS level Se5a, Dolphin or Tripe would be outstanding. Maybe would certainly cover another era so to say having a northern France map ripped up with miles of trenches you can edit in ME, Would add a whole new thing to the CA module like the 1st tanks and movable artillery. Said that maybe one day made :)
McBlemmen Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 I wouldnt buy it. Getting shot at by shilkas in WW1 aircraft is not something i want to experience , and WW1 just isnt as popular... afaik there's only 1 real WW1 sim out there right now and it's pretty dead (rise of flight)
Mordhar Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) It is a matter of taste. I certainly do not want to be shot down by shilka in Bf.109K but I still use that module a lot. And I really want to fly Fokker or Albatros with DCS-level depth. P.S. RoF maybe “dead” but I play it regardless. And I certainly buy any DCS-level WW1 aircraft. There is only ONE real modern-era combat sim with outdated graphics and small player base. But we still post on its forums. :) Edited September 16, 2015 by Mordhar Рожденный ползать летит недолго.

ED Team f-18hornet Posted September 16, 2015 ED Team Posted September 16, 2015 I really don't want WW 1 stuf in DCS. I've Rise of Flight for that. AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, GeForce RTX 2080Ti, 32 GB DRAM, HOTAS TM Warthog, FSSB R3 Lighting, MFG Crosswind, Win 10 Pro
Random Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I really don't want WW 1 stuf in DCS. I've Rise of Flight for that. I really want to see every era catered for in DCS. Yes there are other sims but they dont have the same depth of modelling as DCS. I'm yet to play a WW1 sim that gives you a feel of how tricky operatingva real rotary engine would be... I think DCS has the potential to model it properly.
Buzzles Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 I really don't want WW 1 stuf in DCS. I've Rise of Flight for that. RoF had some questionable updates recently after they merged the Muromets branch in, especially regarding the GUI and "balance" teaks, and while RoF does have a decent damage model and resonably ok flight models, I'd much prefer the interactivity of a DCS level ASM coupled with a PFM. Arguably the WWI birds are probably really good to start with for systems modelling, there's mostly only engine, fuel, cooling and weapon jamming to deal with. Systems and interactive cockpits has always been DCS's forte, and the lack of quantity of systems in the WWI birds means you could model what's there in depth. There's something engaging about having to flick on ignition switches and engage magnetos and the like that really pulls you into the plane. That said, I'd expect any DCS WWI planes to be sold in pairs, maybe bigger sets, rather than individual models. At least for the fighters anyway. Mostly because they are "simple" aircraft with no fancy features. Fancy trying Star Citizen? Click here!
Avimimus Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Rise of Flight has pretty advanced system models. For example, every cylinder in the engine is modelled differently. It is just that there isn't very much to model (assuming you aren't doing your own maintenance). RoF could do with better AI and continued development ...but the fact is it would be much better than a DCS based WWI sim simply because the flight-model, damage model and AI was designed for a WWI environment. Of course, one could use an external flight model but... still... probably best just to get RoF II going!
McBlemmen Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 P-51 bf-109 as mentioned would not want to get shot by a sam, Tripple A is not so bad like i said new units to the CA module would be good, WW1 is not everyone's taste, I myself would give this ago even multi-crew would be possible one flying and ane on machine gun ;) Yes but new ground units are not a promise i'm gonna be waiting for. Looks how long P51 has been out and there's still no WW2 ground units (part of the reason i'm staying away from dcs ww2) , and with how big DCS WW2 is getting i imagine WW1 ground units would absolutely never happen
Demon_ Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 (edited) probably best just to get RoF II going ROF 2 is a myth. Will never happen. Edited September 19, 2015 by Demon_ Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
Coxy_99 Posted September 20, 2015 Author Posted September 20, 2015 Every era should be catered for, Shooting down an A.I red baron is the early version of lns A.I jester
Mike5560 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I would buy a WW1 module if the entire package was available to simulate a full scale battle. Ground units, a bunch of other air units, the big bertha cannon for CA..... But that won't happen. Im plenty excited about the modern jets coming online (M2000, typhoon and f/a-18c)
QuiGon Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I am interested in WW1, but not in the DCS environment. I can't imagine WW1 planes in this framework (damage model, visibility, wind?). I have RoF for that and I really enjoy it. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

All it needs for a WW1 range to start appearing is a dev who wants to do them. Technically, why should there be any limitations? If ROF managed to keep going for as long as it did, then obviously the suggestion that there would be no interest is a weak one. All it needs is the backers. I personally would indulge, as I would with any era in DCS World. How could anyone ignore the birth of air warfare modelled to DCS World standards? It'd be a shame not to go there.
