Mt5_Roie Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 So got it working today (with a lot of crashes in between) but made a video about my results: I found that with instant action I can get the following modules to work about 80% of the time: A-10C SU-25t UH-1 MI-8 I was able to get some of the other modules to work from a training mission I created in the past. I was able to do a little flying on the L-39 that was pretty fun. The cockpits do look a lot better and much clearer (still not perfect, but a lot better then older version). I did have issues with the pilot position and even pressing num 5 didn't really help. I'll try to get more footage this weekend and get more details. __________________ Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
joebloggs Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) I just want to say that from my understanding you can use 0.6.0.1, I've used it in extended mode and it worked now and then for me with low settings. Where does it say you have to use 0.7 for the Rift? Even people using 0.7 are crashing, so I don't think it's to do with the version you are running. I wouldn't recommend anything lower then 0.6.0.1 though. What do Wags say about what version to run to stop crashes? Edited October 2, 2015 by joebloggs

andy_csn Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) Also getting mostly random crashes when loading any missions on the DK2 (tried different modules, custom missions, instant flight, doesn't seem to favor any one). It seems to work about 1 out of 15-20 times. It stops during loading screen of the mission when it says Loading Land Surface, yelding a CTD (DCS Stopped Working screen). SDK 0.7.0.0 NVidia GTX 980 with latest drivers Win 7 Crash log, dump and system.nfo are attached. :(Crash Log and System nfo.zip Edited October 3, 2015 by andy_csn
Wynthorpe Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 I updated to the correct AMD VR drivers last night and lots of succesfull runs, performance remains an issue though when near ground or an airfield, i5 4690k @4.4 R9 290X 4GB 16GB DDR3 1600 SSD I also used LCTRL and Pause to check FPS and fluctuates from 100 to 150 (Thought the rift was 75 locked?, but was very juddery when not at 150), Also said VRAM useage was 4.3GB on medium settings and 4X MSAA, this is very high to me and more than the 4GB on the card.
M0RT Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Not sure I can add much as I'm getting similar results to most here, however in the 1 in 10-15 times I get a mission to load it ALWAYS crashes (to desktop) on quitting. i7-5820K @3.30GHz, 16GB RAM, GTX980 (355.83) Windows 10 Oculus DK2 (Runtime 0.7.0.0)
Deano87 Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 I'm getting the same issues.. 1 out of every 15 or 20 missions actually loads. Its very smooth and playable once in as long as i stay away from an airfield then it gets juddery. Win 7 Oculus Runtime. 0.7 GTX970 16GB i7 4790K I'm wondering if everybody trying with the Rift is getting this or if its just us lot? Are there people who are having no issues loading missions in 1.5? hellking Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Those who had problems with Oculus Rift, could you please write your system specs down (OS, graphics card, graphics driver version, etc..)? Looking at the success stories, I suspect that people with Windows 7 are the ones having problems. Windows 8 and 10 are ok.
Crunchy Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) Sith has already expained you need to send a log not just talk about the problem. It won't get fixed just talking about it, so please send your logs. I also crash on the loading mission screen and the very few times I do get into a mission, I crash when I exit it.DK2 Crashes.zip Edited October 3, 2015 by Crunchy

pagadi-zaiet Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 ..Intrigued but funny in the same time as the application crashes with an error in DX11backend.dll ...lol ! There is plenty of potential here though, much better frames, shame about the crashes and the washed out picture!

There is plenty of potential here though, much better frames, shame about the crashes and the washed out picture! Not been funny or anything, but whats so funny about that? I have just updated from 0.6.0.1 to 0.7 and these are my findings. The head tracking is off in 0.6.0.1, but I must say I there is no judder at airports when you use 0.6.0.1. I really wish extended mode was available in 0.7 because all games seem to struggle more with direct to Rift. Does anyone know why they struggle using Direct to Rift? Here is my crash report using 0.7. in the Rift.DK2 crash.rar
joebloggs Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I have managed to to get the Rift working a few times on low settings, but it just crashes every time when trying high setting. Has it been locked at low setting when using the Rift because it doesn't need to be. I've tested to see what difference the setting make on my PC monitor and I have found only "Civvilian Traffic" and "Visible Range" make a difference to fps, so the Rift should be just as good with high settings. I'm getting 140 FPS with high settings.I just wish 0.7 had extended mode because I would not see any judder at airports if it did. I have tested this using 0.6.0.1 and there was no judder, just tracking issues. Trust Oculus to do away with extended mode because this would be perfect. I already upload my file in another thread, but just though I'd say about the high settings and crashing.

Took a hit and upgraded, my problem was 1.5 would only load 1 in 100 tries and crash frequently. Updated to Win 10, now loads 1 in 2 and crashes less. Significant advantage in stability with a small but noticeable performance hit. Be warned, updating to Windows 10 means you will only be able to use runtime 0.7 - Elite will now not work. Patch is apparently coming in December (I can see myself playing nothing but DCS until then :D ) Windows 10 is free to genuine win7 users. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Why yes, I did just crash...
ralgha Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 (edited) Just experimented a bit with DK2 and DCS 1.5. It crashes about half the time on loading a mission, and always when exiting a mission. I had to turn off vsync in the DCS settings which makes no sense as frame timing should be managed automatically when the Rift is being used, but whatever. I was able to run with high settings but got some judder sometimes. I turned down visibility range, turned off HDR and shadows, seemed to help a lot. Very smooth for the most part, even around cities. Tried multiplayer and that worked. F10 shows airfields and players but that's about it - no way to see airport layout. Running Windows 7 64-bit, Oculus runtime 0.7.0.0, NVIDIA driver 356.04, 2x GTX 780 (SLI disabled for DCS). Edited October 4, 2015 by ralgha

Thanks for the info, but I have windows 7 64 bit and I'm sticking with it for the time being. I would much prefer to wait for a fix rather then update to windows 10 and it's incompatibility with lots of stuff. Like you said updating to windows 10 basically ruins all you other Rift stuff like Elite Dangerous. I think this should be quite an easy fix for Wags and don't think it's got much to do with your OS. They must already be aware why it's crashing and I think having to upgrade to windows 10 would be a a bit to drastic. Lots of people prefer windows 7 while they wait for windows 10 to be fully fixed. Elite will be releasing Horizons soon and I don't want to miss that in the Rift. Last I heard they said they are not updating and are actually waiting for CV1 now in 2016 before they do anything with the Rift. They tell you to stick with 0.5.0.1 which is a bit of a joke considering they told people they were supporting the Rift. I took that to mean all the time when I bought Elite.
Crunchy Posted October 5, 2015 Posted October 5, 2015 Any news on a fix for the crash on loading screen? Or has anyone found a way to stop the crashes? I've got in a couple of times to night after a fair few crashes. Someone mentioned disconnecting your internet, but I'm not sure if it's just wishfull thinking to solve the problem. I did try disconnexcting my internet, but wether or not it's made a difference is hard to tell. I still get crashes, but who knows if it's just a fluke that you get less with your connection disconnected. So is there any news on this issue?
hellking Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Admin, can you merge this thread into the other DK2 thread which was opened 7 minutes before this one? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=147767 Just trying to make sure that all DK2 crash information is consolidated for providing good data to developers. Thanks!
