E111Virus
When says.. "The A-10 is a product of the 1940s. During World War II, the German and Soviet air force both fielded warplanes specifically designed for attacking enemy ground forces in close proximity to friendly troops."...is refered to the P-47 Thunderbolt...not Thunderbolt II... Capn kamikaze
LOL, I thought it was a product of the Vietnam war as a replacement for the A-1 Skyraider.
FSKRipper
Great find Razor! Everywhere the same, changing working planes against some high tech toys which are not even flying in numbers... For our glorious Air Force that means having over 100 Typhoons of which less than 50% are flyable. The maximum lifespan is currently set to 1500 hours per plane  i9 9900K @ 5,0GHz | 1080GTX | 32GB RAM | 256GB, 512GB & 1TB Samsung SSDs | TIR5 w/ Track Clip | Virpil T-50 Stick with extension + Warthog Throttle | MFG Crosswind pedals | Gametrix 908 Jetseat [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

hansangb
As a former Infantry platoon leader, I can tell you that the sights of A10 and AH64s were very comforting. As well as AC130's. The problem with F16s is that the do go too fast. The FACs do a marvelous job, but the slow speed is ESSENTIAL when you're danger-close. Great article. hsb hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Croaker47
Great article......love the comment on the bottom about F-16s improperly being called Vipers. There are people who actually call it "Fighting Falcon"? Like, as a thing?
Catastrophy
I have a great idea for Congress: Buy DCS and A10 C module. Learn to fly the sim and hit stuff. Try the same with a fighter jet. Make a hearing with real pilots if the sim is any indication about the real characteristics. Might save some bucks.

Kev2go
welp good to see the warthog put to good use again. Against an enemy that has no real air defense the warthog will reign supreme as the most efficient in ground attack & CAS. That and its probably the cheapest jet aircraft of the usaf arsenal.
