Homage to DID's EF2000

 

Well it just HAD to be didn't it... Hawk at 400kts below 200ft up the canyon from Lake Mohave , under the bridge and over the hoover dam. No-one who trained at RAF Valley could resist that one! Not quite EF2000's Fjord run, but pretty darn close !. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU HAVEN'T FLOW IT YET .. GET OUT THERE GUYS !

windows 8.1 switch to full screen

 

Hey,

after all this anticipation, 24 hrs download etc etc....

Looks great but seems to run default windowed mode. Despite my best efforts, in windows 8.1, can't seem to get running in full screen.

Any advice guys??

ALT+Enter is toggle for full screen.

I've been waiting to "visit" 3 sites in the NTTR area. My dad's grave, and two homes.

 

While the major roads are right, and some feeder roads I was surprised to find added streets and weird twists that make no sense. His house is there, but the roads to it are only vaguely as they should be. The Veteran's Memorial in Boulder City has all the right roads, but instead of the lawns and small buildings, it is a business park. Big buildings.

 

They went to the effort to place buildings, but I guess it was done on an interpolated map, with reference to a real map for major structures only.

 

Not really a problem, but I was really looking forward to sending a pic of my step mom's house to her from the Mustang's cockpit.

2.0 and new hardware is excellent. Sadly clean install means I need to redo controls again. I was only patient enough to set basic stuff for F-15. FPS counter is nailed at 60 over most of the map with High/Extreme graphics (no lens effects or heat blur). In Las Vegas it dips to 45 or so.

 

Visited all the airports including the 5th one by Mesquite I think, no ATC and not usable in ME like the small Kutaisi strips in Georgia.

 

Afterward I filled up Nellis with F-15s' and had C-130's and KC-135's fly around the city. Still 60 FPS.

Based on Google Earth and the members familiar with the area, I think they build a really good version of the Nevada environment.

Their goal is obviously to create a convincing and credible representation of the area and in no way an exact reproduction. [EDIT: as Mr_Burns suggested ;) ]

It's focused on the NTTR, and thus, the military activity simulated in DCS.

 

Wags has posted a comment about the missing casinos/hotels/landmarks in LV and they're not going to be added anytime soon.

Even if the major focus is on the combat theater I'm still astonished by the little details and level of fidelity the kind of comments you made are bringing to the light.

 

A perfect reproduction at that scale would require an insane amount of work: all the different 3D buildings with the correct colors, collision models, the different areas including the vegetation, with different seasons, etc. ! :doh:

 

I'm wondering if it's possible to modify the terrain and add user made buildings but I doubt it will be possible. Afaik the terrain tools are only accessible to serious third party developers for specific projects. And it's probably better for the DCS series to keep it that way (even if I would gladly pay for specific additional areas (airbase/airport/airfield), it would be a mess in multiplayer).

Well I am sure that just like FSX there will be Devs willing to make replicas for payware in the future. I dont know the industry dynamics as to whether there are enough DCS 'players' but I think the fact they give DCS away for free is a good call (even though I want to pay for it to support).

 

Perhaps if we get a commercial model in the game with the fidelity we might get some FSX converts!

Even though it was an 8hr+ download, it's pretty awesome to fly over Vegas and land an F-15 at Nellis AFB! :pilotfly: So happy!

A hint: If you fly a bit higher and lower the resolution of the screenshot (just a little bit should be enough) it might look like a real picture. :lol: specially for a person which doesn't play videogames.
