Sierra99 Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Hey Guys, I am trying to use the "Radio Transmission" action in the ME with no luck. The file plays if I click on it prior to starting the mission but nothing in game. What am I doing wrong? baltic_dragon Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Hi Sierra, I have played a lot with radio transmissions and the version from triggers is not working 100% correctly. What I would suggest you to do is to place a ground unit close to where you want it to play, set up a frequency for it (in commands) and in triggered actions set up "radio transmission" commands for any messages you want to be broadcasted (including text and audio file for each). Then go to triggers and use this with 'AI task push' command. Works like charm. For more information, please visit my website. MTrenda Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Sierra, I am not a radio guy s I will leave the technical details to them but I believe uhf 225 - 400 MHz is part of the AM band of freqs and is only designated as UHF and there fore in the mission editor you have to use am. So essentially no bug. thanks 76th falcon MSI Creator X299 - INTEL i9 - 10900X 3.7 GHZ - 32 GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 - EVGA GTX 1080 FTW AC2
wolf5 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 You can emit in AM or FM with an UHF E/R People fly planes, pilots fly helicopters
Sierra99 Posted December 23, 2015 Author Posted December 23, 2015 Ok... First thanks for all the replies. I guess I'm not the only person playing with this feature. So I guess the first question is how is this trigger "supposed" to work? When I initially set up the trigger I used the default settings which apparently included FM. Obviously that won't work with the UHF radio however, it should work if the frequency is set to 124000, FM mode and VHF radio in FM Mode. Right? Doesn't affect my use because I'm planning to use a UHF freq for AWACS but it'd be nice to figure out how broke it is. Sokol1_br Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 (edited) You are using the COMM "radio" (/ , F1, F...) for start the Radio Transmission in the game? AM/FM make no difference. I the above example I use Ka-50 R-828 to hear the "transmission". :) Edited December 24, 2015 by Sokol1_br
MTrenda Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Sierra, ok after some testing it appears that: In respect to the Radio Transmission Action in the Mission Editor: 1. setting the FM Modulation works for the FREQ FM BANDS (30.000 - 76.000) 2. Setting the AM Modulation works for the FREQ of AM BANDS (116.000 - 151.975) and UHF BANDS (225.000 - 399.975) This is in contrast to what real life should be as it should be Modulation FM = FM bands and UHF BANDS with correct FREQS Modulation AM = AM bands and UHF BANDS with correct FREQS this appears to be a bug or a limitation of programming so I would report if I were you and see what they say. thanks 76th Falcon MSI Creator X299 - INTEL i9 - 10900X 3.7 GHZ - 32 GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 - EVGA GTX 1080 FTW AC2

Ranger79 Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) An old bug seems to have reappeared. I cannot get more than 3 radio transmissions to transmit from the same freq using the same zone. I will test further, but I thought this was fixed. Anyone else having this issue? UPDATE: BD, your AI Push worked great, got it working, thanks for the pro tip! dwpenney Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Sorry to necro an old thread. Ranger, did you get it working for more than 1 radio transmission? I have a mission where I get only the first, followed by continuous static ... until the second is triggered. When the second is triggered, the static stops but I do not hear the second transmission. No transmissions after that seem to do anything. This is all from the same zone, same frequency, power, everything ... except different ogg files on DCS World 2 OpenAlpha. Anyone else getting this? Grimes Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I raised it as a bug a while back and was told it was working as designed. The problem being the design makes sense from a logical perspective but not a practical one. Apparently you have to use the trigger "Stop Transmission" to end any and all triggered radio transmissions on a given frequency if you want to transmit there again. This is why if you transmit a radio message over an airbase frequency then the airbase will fail to respond. I guess because it falls under radio simulation it won't work exactly the same as the outSound triggers and the triggered radio transmissions don't "self terminate" after a set time for whatever reason. dwpenney Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Ahh. Ok. I was wondering if Stop Radio Transmission was required or not. Do you know if it is called immediately after Send Radio Transmission, does it cut off the initial transmission? I can test this later today after work. Fridge ---------- Things which do you no good in aviation: 1) Altitude above you; 2) Runway behind you; 3) Fuel in the truck; 4) The airspeed you don't have.
dwpenney Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 So adding a Stop Radio Transmission call immediately after the Radio Transmission call terminates the transmission before it really starts (I am assuming nanoseconds of processor time). The only way I could think of to get around this, and still have the transmissions occur on a particular radio frequency, was to add a Flag On call after the Radio Transmission and then another Continuous event to capture the Flag is True AND Time Since Flag conditions ... allowing me to way a few seconds before terminating the transmission. This seems really odd. The only way around this (if it is indeed implemented as intended) is to just use Sound To Coalition/Group instead. But that means people can not 'tune out' of those calls if they are doing something else (ie: they can not tune to a different frequency). I am a little worried that having n Continuous Event checks in the mission editor gets worse when you have m additional Continuous Events to clear the radio comms. Maybe I am not using these functions as intended in the Mission Editor? Grimes Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 You can use a standard setup to prevent audio messages from stepping over each other, but you have to add an extra layer to stop each message. Flag 10 is simply there to prevent messages from stepping over each other, only one will be broadcast at a given time. Flag 1-x designate if message is playing Whatever conditions for Message A and Flag 10 false> Flag 1 On, Flag 10 on, Transmission A Whatever conditions for Message B and Flag 10 false> Flag 2 On, Flag 10 on, Transmission B Whatever conditions for Message C and Flag 10 false> Flag 3 On, Flag 10 on, Transmission C Switched Condition>Time Since Flag 1 is (length of audio file)> Flag 1 Off, Flag 10 Off, Stop Transmission A Switched Condition>Time Since Flag 2 is (length of audio file)> Flag 2 Off, Flag 10 Off, Stop Transmission B etc... Switched Condition >Time Since Flag 10 is (some number longer than any audio file)> Flag 10 Off, Flag 1 Off, Stop Transmission A, B, C, etc. I wish it worked more like the normal sound to triggers, but for the time being it doesn't. At least there is a request in the system to add a duration value that would automatically stop a transmission after X time, but that isn't implemented. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. baltic_dragon Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 All that is irrelevant if instead of a trigger you just use AI PUSH action and set up transmissions for units with assigned frequencies. Then you can play simultaneous transmissions on different freqs or separate ones on the same one just using simple timing... For more information, please visit my website. Flag 1-x designate if message is playing I had not thought of that. Thanks. AI PUSH action and set up transmissions for units with assigned frequencies Ahh, what? This sounds interesting but I am not sure I understand. Do you set the audio transmission up as a Task Action and then use AI PUSH to trigger it? Interesting. Fridge ---------- Things which do you no good in aviation: 1) Altitude above you; 2) Runway behind you; 3) Fuel in the truck; 4) The airspeed you don't have.
baltic_dragon Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Exactly. First in advance waypoints in WP 0 add desired frequency for the unit, then in triggered actions add "Perform Command -> Radio transmission", add text, sound and desired length. Then in triggers do AI Task Push and voila. Works perfectly well in single player. Doesn't work in MP though. For more information, please visit my website. dwpenney Posted September 17, 2016 Posted September 17, 2016 That. Is. Cool. If that worked in Multiplayer it would be awesome! Wonder if that is something on ED's radar? To fix that for Multiplayer? Igneous01 Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Exactly. Then in triggers do AI Task Push and voila. Works perfectly well in single player. Doesn't work in MP though. I tried this now in the latest stable of 1.5 and i can't get it to work. Using KA-50: R828 Frequencies: Ch7 : 40 Mhz FM APC MLTB 1 WP 0 (SP) Action: Set Frequency (40Mhz FM) Triggered Actions Transmit Message("Test Message") Trigger ONCE - Radio Item Add (Flag: 1, Value: 1, "Contact FAC Ch7") Trigger ONCE - Flag is true (1) - AI PUSH TASK(Transmit Message), radio item remove next I go in game, set my r828 to channel 7, tune it until the light is off, switch to vhf1 on radio selector and fire off my radio item in f10 menu. No transmission is received, no text appears. The radio item is properly removed. Is this no longer working in current stable? baltic_dragon Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Are you sure you've added sound file to the radio transmission? It won't work unless there is even a 1s sound with it.
