Jateu Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Hi all. I've decided to go with the gtx980ti lightning for my current build. How has everyone else got on with sli? I have herd rift dosent like sli. Why won't the rift cv1 like sli. Many thanks
hansangb Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Wags has stated that they are working on getting multi-GPU to work properly in DCS. Not specific to Rift, but in general. Most will be quick to point out that SLI adds latency that can be detrimental to smooth FPS required for nausea free gaming. But my guess is, that as drivers like GameWorksVR and VR-SLI become mainstream, we'll benefit from it. Just know that it is not supported today in DCS. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Jateu Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Yeah I don't understand how adding more power is bad! I have also found that many people have got great success with sli working with DCS. I have managed to get FSX to work with sli. It all come down the cpu asking gpu and in this argument sli is still the gpu to render images etc. The software itself dosen't need to know if it is a single gpu or a sli gpu. Is sees it as a single gpu regardless. Does this make any sense?

Is sees it as a single gpu regardless. Does this make any sense? It does and it doesn't. My experience with SLI was hit and miss, where sometimes the images sent by two separate gpu's had syncing problems, and causes stutter. STUTTER/JUDDER is something you certainly don't want in VR. Since that time I've always just bought the best possible single GPU. That said, I'm sure SLI will improve with the demands of VR, but I won't enter the dual GPU market again unless I'm sure those problems are solved.
Jateu Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Ok well said. Can the gtx980ti lightning handle 90fps for the rift? Or should I got for titan x
Enduro14 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Sli works better than not having it for me in 4K and in 3D takes some tweaks Intel 8700k @5ghz, 32gb ram, 1080ti, Rift S
DayGlow Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Have x2 290x and multi GPU is working great. Both cards are usually at 90%-100% usage. "It takes a big man to admit he is wrong...I'm not a big man" Chevy Chase, Fletch Lives 5800X3D - 64gb ram - RTX3080 - Windows 11
Jateu Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) What about the dual gpu ati graphics cards so no crossfire or sli needed. Anyone out there with any good results? Edited January 31, 2016 by Jateu

_Acoustic_ Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Rift is CPU heavy. A 980 ti does wonders by itself. No regrets buying mine last month.
wormeaten Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 What about the dual gpu ati graphics cards so no crossfire or sli needed. Anyone out there with any good results? R9 295 is working and have performance like Crossfire 2 graphic cards only it is fiscally one graphic card with predefined CF i essence.
Jateu Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 I will got for the gtx980ti lightning as it's a beast. I'm running my 4790k @ 5.1ghz on water. So I assume this will be more than enough. Any one got thoughts on the titan for rift?
hansangb Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Jateu, I'll let you know as soon as i get my rift. hannibal Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 i am getting a pascal... i will be an early adopter of the GP100 Titan. im sure it will be about 1000$. i can not wait til 2017 for a 1080Ti. i would be throwing 650$ for a 980Ti placeholder to wait to for a 1080Ti. i think i will just be wasting 300 - 600$ as an early adopter buying a 1000$ Pascal Titan. WASTE: in 2016 650$ for 980Ti + 650$ in 2017 for a 1080Ti = 1300$ to last you till 2018 BETTER DEAL: a Pascal Titan GP100 for 1000$ to last you till 2018 find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Jateu Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Fair point but what about sli, which I understand dcs are working on. And also I believe that dcs is cpu hungry. So what what would the implications for pascal be? Would it be fully used by dcs or would it be a good idea to get gtx980ti as then a second once dcs finish sli implimentation?
hannibal Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 brother, unless your pockets are that deep, i wouldnt worry about SLi. with or without pascal, DCS hasnt optimize for SLi at this moment. should DCS support SLi, then you go ahead and drop 2000$ on two GP100 Titans. find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Jateu Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 The point I'm making is dcs capable of fully utilising pascal or should I just go ahead with gtx980ti lightning (which is a beast of a card) and wait a hell of a long time for the 1080ti
hannibal Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 i already posted my answer. wait and get the the Titan GP100 that comes out THIS april. 1080Ti is in 2017 find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Jateu Posted February 3, 2016 Author Posted February 3, 2016 Hans I can't find any details on titan gp100 can you forward a link possibly. Many thanks
