The 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron Phase flight conducts a 300 hour inspection on an F-16C Fighting Falcon, Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, Aug. 22, 2016. This aircraft is going through phase maintenance where members of the 455th EMXS phase flight closely inspect the aircraft for cracks and other types of damage, verifying that the 30 plus year old aircraft is safe to fly. I wonder what is the story behind the nickname "Glock"

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

What, now? Because they can mount AMRAAMs, and the USAF is finally off of its "Oh we don't trust anything with an independent terminal guidance package" kick it had back in the early 90s.

The F-16 does carry AIM-7, ROCAF block 20 and Egyptian Block 40 for example. As for others F-16, not every country wants the update, some can't afford it. Others, US congress denies the sell of AIM-7.

What do you think about this one?

The photo seems fake to me.

It suffered a bit of a fuel leak in the AB...

It look like it. But two days in a row AFAIK. Both Friday and Saturday demo the AB look like that. On Sunday it had the AB blow out or stall.

I was there on Saturday, and thought the afterburner looked funny right after takeoff.

Fortunately nothing serious happened, because he was coming towards the crowd line when the AB quit.

Gave us quite a scare...

Why is there a picture of an A-10 in the F-16 thread?

DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule.

In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

Could carry them from the start but I think I have only actually ever seen MERs on the YF and FSD jets during 1970s testing.

Interesting pic - LM have the pic it on their site http://www.lockheedmartin.com/us/products/f16.html

This site claims it is an F-16IN - certainly has a Block 60 antenna type layout but missing the nose FLIR.

Can I just confirm we are on the same page here

TER (e.g. BRU-42) = Triple Ejector rack (carried 3 x MK-82) - very common on F-16s over the years (STAR is another type I think might be in use)

MER (e.g. BRU-41) = Multiple Ejector Rack (Carried 6 x MK-82) - seldom seen

Can the F-16 even carry an MER? I've never seen one with it.

As Basher54321 posted, It was tested on the prototype F-16A, and you can see in videos carry them. For example at 4:47

https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2778312&postcount=443

You can see the bombs where all whiter, possibly dummies to test separation characteristics.

With that said, I have never heard nor seen any F-16 carry that load out operationally nor in training. Does not mean it never happened, I just never seen nor heard it. It is like the F-111 with 8 MERs, there are photos of it, but has anyone seen it flying like that operationally?

It can carry multiple MER on the two inner pylons and in addition, it is an updated version so it can surely take a loadout like this

It is a new model but no model I have seen. For example, It has a "radom" similar to a block 60 but non of the bulges for a FLIR system, the larger nose tire, enlarge intake light for internal ECM equipment. It also look like it has the scoop on the right side, hinting to the possibility of a OBOGS system. I still say is fake until see more picture or video specially flying.

The thing is.. that F-16 is using two MER per pylon, which is kinda neat. The flying bomb truck.. Nice video though!

I agree with Basher54321, it looks like two MERs and two TERs

Is the BRU-61/A or the SUU-20 consider a MER? Is so, the F-16 can carry those on station 3 and 7 AFAIK.
