No, currently there is no way to do so. I suspect it may come with the new ATC system someday together with other cool stuff like overhead breaks proper circuit patterns etc.

In some of the SP missions the wingman does. Is that just mission scripting? If they can do it I'd assume we could do it too but I'm not very good at scripting so I'm not certain.

You can now fly as the wingman to an AI flight and land to left, right or aft of the AI. Use the mission editor and add your flight as second or any other flight as the group. You can also set different formations along the route and fill in the position in the formation. Works fine :)

Be careful. As I discovered last night the AI sometimes brake heavily on touch down. If they are centred on the runway and they probably will be, it's very, very easy to run into the back of them... bad things happen.

True. Their SFM allows for impossibly short braking distance.
