Rift CV1. I could never go back to a flat screen now.

Not even if CV1 breaks or someone steals it? :D

It would be nice to know the reason why people are not using there hmds!?

I've done 2 helicopter flights and I've had my Rift 8 days. I'm waiting for my VR lenses to arrive because distant objects (i.e. everything outside of the cockpit) is just a blur to me.

I will once it stops being grossly overpriced by greedy resellers due tl stock issues. currently waiting for OSVR HDK2 to launch. a 400 bucks vr headset sounds tempting compared to tbe 800 dollar rifts and 1000 dollar vives available to me.

Well, I spent around £1000 on 3 27 inch monitors a couple of years ago, and in comparison, the Rift - even at lower resolutions is light years ahead.

I'd say that waiting a year or so, you'll be able to get CV1s pretty cheap - because the next generation is bound to be hot on it's heels.

Really though, $500 is still great value for money considering the development work, and the amazing leap forward VR represents.

And Kuky, if mine broke or was stolen, going back to flat screens simply wouldn't be an option, I'd have to sit in a corner sulking until it was replaced.

Yes, it really is that good!

I think there need to be 3 things improved for VR (future headsets)

1. resolution needs to be double (vertical and horizontal)

2. horizontal FoV needs to go 180°, vertical maybe 20-30° more is alright

3. the headset needs to be part of an actual helmet (because the weight on the front of the face is not good for longer use, and weight needs to be spread out over the head scull instead)

Once these 3 are accomplished, VR will become what it needs to be, and ideal peripheral for flight sims :) Can't wait for this to happen.

I think it should go the other way - headset needs to be like a pair of specs. Like "Data" or whatever his name is, in later Star Trek series.

Why? because there is so much heat generated in my headset that I continually get condensation on the lenses - and that would be the case in a helmet, too - if not more so.

Oh - and you could fit your Rift into a helmet, if that's what you wanted ;)

Helmet, emphatically no. Have you ever seen technology improvements making something bigger, heavier and more uncomfortable?

Vertical FOV only matters for flight sims and that is such a very miniscule part of the market that it would be the last thing that needs improvement. Yes, we all like flight sims but we are not what is driving development, and never will be.

I have paid more for any one of the monitors I have bought for my pit. The OR\Vive is not overpriced by that metric.

And each and every one of them costs much more than the rift to produce. Ive bought a pg279q for a grand so im no stranger for opening the wallet. I just dont see the hardware inside the rift or vive worth 800-1000$ that's all. Now at 400$? Im very much convinced. Hope HDK2 gets no delays.

I am afraid that delay and Oculus have become somewhat synonymous.

Wow, so many people hate helmets... why? Isn't that what ALL pilots use therefore your flight sim experience would be MORE realistic? Not to mention the weight would not be on the front part of the face, it would spread out over the scull. Much much better configuration if you ask me. :music_whistling:

If VR was exclusively for use with flight sims, definitely. Unfortunately they're out there for everyone to use.

Maybe the ability to attach the VR unit to a conventional helmet would work, but somehow I think this is just cloud cuckoo land, and we'll be handed whatever the general gaming population wants.

For me, the way to advance the technology lays squarely with improved resolution, decent hand controllers and perhaps a camera so you can interact with a keyboard whilst in VR.

Ah, everybody else, forgot them :D

Fair point. I would still like helmet VR :)

Yeah, me too. Ideally, with the images projected onto the inside of the visor. You'd have to have the tinted one inside the projected image one of course.

It could come packaged with a 3 axis hydraulic seat, so we get the G effects matching the action. Of course, you'd need a hyperbaric chamber to house everything, so the air pressures could be controlled too.

Do you think I am asking a lot for $1000? :music_whistling: :music_whistling: :music_whistling:

I don't hate helmets - I wear one every time I get on my bike! However, wearing one sat at my PC would be akin to sitting in an ejector seat, with a harness on (i.e. just for extreme geeks and anoraks).

Mind you, I would prefer not to have to wear my helmet when it's warm and sunny... (hmmm - looking for a smiley with a helmet, but seems we don't have one)

edit - found a nice one

Iirc I've seen someone who 3d printed a ANVIS adapter for their DK2, to be mounted on his HGU 55.

When I get a new 3d printer I'll try that with my DK2, shouldn't be to hard since there are Anvis gopro adapters, so I just need to make a gopro mount for the rift!

If you go that route, be sure to post some pictures. That would be a must see.

From my rough measurements with a XL HGU-55/68/84 shell, the face opening is wide enough for a CV1 but you would have to remove the side mounts entirely, it unfortunately sits too high on your forehead so you would have to cut the helmet opening some vertically or play with the adapter some to fit. Not measured it against my primary Evo 252 to know if it would fit the Evo and MSA Gallet helmet shells but I'm fairly sure that it is just as bad if not worse for the vertical opening clearance.

Wearing a helmet all day flying its a pain in hot and humid areas, I'm not supper excited at the idea of then putting on one when I get home to goof off flying.

Don't have a cv1, but I can use a dk2 over my medium helmet.

I agree that it's not practical nor comfortable, but it would be fun to see if it would work somewhat good ;)

Just got my CV1 today and omg the immersion is unreal i keep trying to push buttons and flick switches, and flying well thats a whole new experience, even though the frame rates are low it does feel really smooth, an landing the huey on a roof top is just quality the sense of awareness you have is amazing i am just lost for words best purchase of 2016.
